Hi From Edmonton, Alberta. I have never heard of “Cowboy Candy” but I was inspired to try this recipe. I didn’t grow jalapeños this year, so I ran out to the local farmer’s market. Three pounds = 6 half pints. Perfect. I had enough leftover syrup for 3 half pints of syrup.
I just heard about this "candy" a few years ago. This year my friend gave me about 2 pounds of jalapeños she grew. So, 2 weeks I made this for the first time. OMG!! This is so good. I'm not one for eating jalapeños raw or cooked, for that matter, but this is incredible! Thanks for sharing this info and recipe.
You are the first person I’ve seen use your roaster for canning!!! I’ve been doing it for many years. Got a lot of hate on fb for sharing a video of making jelly in mine. I can get 11-14 jars canned using both burners and my turkey roasters. I’ve not had any problems with doing it this way. I’m going to make your cowboy candy recipe tomorrow. My husband cannot wait lol. Thank you for sharing.
Gramma knows best! She used to can up hundreds, maybe even thousands of jars a year. All using those roasting pans! Be sure to check out some of our other canning recipes. Many are hers!
You could pull up the Jalapeno plants and put them in a tote in the garage to over winter them and plant them in the spring. I’m trying it this winter to see if it’s worth it.
I do all brown sugar except 1 cup. First time was accident I thoughtbi had another 10lb bag but I didn't so I used the brown sugar for replacement since I only had 1 cup of regular sugar. Fixed it per Instructions a fee weeks later. We all liked it with the brown sugar so much better. But it's still the bomb either way.
Fun video guys! We love your videos. You guys always have a fun, light, not too serious yet very informative show. It's a nice break from our lives to watch and enjoy... thank you from our family♥️

Yeah, we have a second greenhouse that we’ll overwinter stuff in. Our cabin is too small to have many plants growing inside. It’s a 3 room cabin lol. Bed, bath and kitchen/living area. Very tiny.
Geez viewers need to know, I just discovered this recipe one month ago and got to tell ya...I'm making my third batch already....I put this on and in EVERYTHING...Too yummie
Had a bumper crop of jalapeños this year from just 6 plants! I’ve given away probably 10 pounds and still picked 20 lbs yesterday with more on the bushes. Looking for something to do with them all! I tried this today and can’t wait to try it!
picked up a huge bag of peppers today, garden didn't grow enough. Going to try your recipe tonight. Do you think I could use others peppers too? I grew Primero peppers which I did get a lot of! Wonder what they would be like mixed together....
@@Wilderstead awesome! Yeah cracked into some on the weekend, heading up on Friday again too. Hope you sleigh em. If you ever need a companion let me know.
We've been hit by frost a few times now. We've been covering our frost sensitive plants with sheets and other materials at night, so we haven't had a huge loss yet. The colder weather is definitely on its way!
Thanks so much for the recipe, can't wait to try Coyote Crack!!! The mystery pepper looked like a Serrano YUM! It would be better to pick them when they are ripe, they are better for your health!
The unidentified pepper were probably serrano peppers. A great pepper and even better if ripe. Made first batch of cowboy candy, all my friends thinned it out greatly, I'm thinking another batch is called for.
Love it!! Thank you for your wonderful video!! I made this recipi, but the waiting is killing me! Others say you have to wait 2-4 weeks to eat it because it taste better. Now one question; I never planted jalapeños pepper before, when is the best time to do it? Thank you 💝
I'm making cowboy candy today! My husband LOVES the stuff. I've never tried it before because I don't like the heat. It's a labour of love. Do you find you have a lot of leftover syrup at the end of it? I hate wasting that much organic cane sugar!! Helps to watch the WHOLE video before commenting. Lol. Have you ever reused syrup the following year?
We’ve used the syrup to ‘cheat’ when we’ve run out of coyote crack before our peppers were ready, and bought some from the store to make it through until harvest 😂
@@Wilderstead Good to know. Thanks! I canned up a bunch of the syrup because I had to run the canner twice anyway. I am going to at least try it this year. I do all the work so I should at least try to enjoy it. Ha ha
I made two batches of these up today, and I used a couple pint jars along with the half-pint ones. All were processed for 10 minutes. I had not paid enough attention to the instructions, clearly!! Do you think my pint jars will be okay or should I re-process them?
As long as they were put in the jars hot, and the jars sealed, you should be OK. The amount of sugar and vinegar in the recipe should be adequate. You might want to eat the larger jars first though. Hope that helps!
I know I saw this video last year but had to rewatch. I am almost out of the jar that I just got from you guys, is that normal?? HAHAHA Hands down making this next year. (Even though I said I was going to make them this year) LOL
It was painful watching you pull up that pepper plant. Haha! 😆 In AZ we can prune them back and they keep growing. I'm excited to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing!
I wish we could keep the pepper plants going year round, too. Hopefully the heated greenhouse we've been building will allow us to overwinter various plants in the future. Enjoy the coyote crack!
That lady is my hero for just taking a big bite out of that mystery pepper, then eating it slowly and thoughtfully even though it was hot.
She's BRAVE!! LOL
Yeah………… 🔥 love her response…
Really nice harvest and I love your recipe for cowboy candy😊

Putting up the rewards from all your hard work... not much better a feeling of self-reliance. Great days to you two, Katness and all the others too !
Thanks Bubba, and same to you folks over your way!
Thank you from southern Ontario. Just finished your recipe of cowboy candies👏👏

Awesome video! That was quite a haul!!
Loved the candied peppers! I used 2 cups of brown sugar and 4 cups white sugar. Good!!

I use the remaining syrup to make peanuts, almonds brittle that are AMAZING in flavor!😉😉
Woooooo!!!! Those are Serrano peppers!! You’re a BRAVE woman! Those suckers pack a punch!
Thank you for this video!! And I love the idea about saving the syrup for marinades, etc.
I just made cowboy candy/coyote candy today following your recipe I’m so excited for this
Great job!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Made the crack today. Thanks for sharing. 🤠👍
Rock on!
I also canned the remaining sauce.
So tonight we made coyote crack pork ribs in the crock pot.👍

I saw a video where you can keep your pepper plants indoors thru winter and replant them outside and start harvesting sooner.

The addiction is REAL! 😝 😋
I will definitely try this with My Jalepenos this year. Looks good.
Hope you enjoy!
Just made some a couple weekends ago. Great video Guys!!
The peppers were such a beautiful color omg!! I’ve never tried candied jalapeños. I’m intrigued
They are delicious. Also, mildy addictive LOL!
OMG I just made this.... Following the instructions easy AF.
And tasty!! Cheers Tracey!

Coyote crack well that's just fun! Love that stuff, it's usually by best for bargaining with
Never heard of it before, but it sure looks like a treat. You've put in a lot of time learning about preserving and canning.
It's definitely a big part of our lifestyle. If we can grow or raise it and use it year round, we try to!
@@Wilderstead What do you serve it with?
Everything!
Ok, next year I am doubling my halepeno plants!!! Those look delish guys!!
Definitely double it, or even triple it just in case 😂
OK you had me at "our fish tacos" in your description.......................
that looks so good! I have too much jalapenos in the freezer and I'm wondering if they'd be okay to defrost and candy.
We havent tried with frozen jalepenos, so not sure if it would work. Might be worth a try though!
picked up a huge bag of peppers today, garden didn't grow enough. Going to try your recipe tonight. Do you think I could use others peppers too? I grew Primero peppers which I did get a lot of! Wonder what they would be like mixed together....
Definitely! This recipe can be done with any pepper.
Pepper harvest looks great to me! Way to give er guys. Hope you are slammin some coho to go with em!
Cohos just getting started now. A little late this year, but tons of fun dude!!
@@Wilderstead awesome! Yeah cracked into some on the weekend, heading up on Friday again too. Hope you sleigh em. If you ever need a companion let me know.
Serano Peppers are the smaller ones. IF you start cutting from the pointed edge its easier to finish thechop, and its safer cutting.
Blessings 💖
My guess on those mystery peppers: Serrano or something very similar
They definitely resemble them. Will see how they are once they’re nice a ripe. Likely add them into some fermented hot sauce.
NICE pepper haul :)
Thank you 😁
Hi guys how are your crops doing? We got frost here in my city

Great to hear James! And yes, we think they were Serranos as well. They made some delicious fermented hot sauce. Cheers!
I can feel the capsaicin in my throat just watching. Lollolloz!!😂🤣

We start our peppers in late January or early February in our heated greenhouse
Hello, looks yum. After they are canned so they need to go in fridge?
These are shelf stable. Refrigerate after opening a jar.

No but I bet that’d be tasty!
I used the extra for pickled eggs

Can't say we have. Have you?
@@Wilderstead not yet. I think I will try with some crappie
@@boknowsmortgage Let us know how it goes. Could be quite tasty!
Looks like a serano, about the same color as a jalapeno, smaller in diameter.
Someone had the suggestion to hold the stem while cutting.
Yummy!
