@@PappysCorner I understand it has a cord. I was asking if it had an auxiliary battery compartment to go wireless. It would be nice to go wireless while positioning the cameras.
I enjoyed your video, thanks for posting it. I installed this same camera for a family member. I setup one to view the front door and the other to cover the driveway. Great picture and sound. I also like that you can have a conversation with the person at the door, without actually opening the door. The only feature that I could not get to work, is the screensaver feature. Per the included instructions, the display can be setup to display pictures (family, pets, etc) until motion is detected, which then causes the camera to show the scanned areas instead.

No, it's optional, this sends the video data directly to the monitor within a certain distance. Campers like this. If you plug in thru your router then you can use app with a smart phone and check your system from anywhere there's wifi signal.
Thanks for the video Pappy. I want to put a camera in the front & back of the house, and this looks like a cost effective solution. I was looking at this unit the last time I was at HF. I guess there is a phone app (I have an Android) that you download to view remotely?
Yes you can view remotely with android... the time and date will automatically keep updated when the monitor is plugged into your router. I have (4) cameras and working great (4) years.
I have the exact same one! Last tenants set it up. So I have a question! Why does the monitor not beep at night? (when we need it most) was it set up like that or does it just not “catch motion” at night?
PappysCorner yeah same! but I turned it on because some dude wanted to come at 3am & then that day the camera that would’ve got him messed up. so i’d rather it beep at night than throughout the day.
You could have run the wire under the camera mounting base to hide it. Or put the wire under your siding instead of leaving it accessable to a pair of scissors. The down side of these cameras is that anyone can reach up and point the camera away. They are better than nothing. Good review of the features tho! Also, regular silicon can be shot in the hole its what satellite and cable installer use so it works.
I removed the shade cover on one of the camer, and thair silver square box siliconed on the outside that doesn't look like it Would be a fiactory component .could check Your s to see if its on yous It just seems like a hacked In component,

You say it takes up to a 256gb sd card, but you had a 512. I froze the screen on file list and your card says 500 MB. MB not Gb. So do you know if it can take more than 256gb or is that really the limit? Also, if you set to sync time with server after power loss, don't you need internet for the time server or that feature won't work?
I started with one camera and 512 mg SD. That held about a weeks worth of recordings. Now with 4 cameras I use a 32GB SD card and it holds about 2-weeks recordings. Yes 256GB is the max according to the manual. When Ethernet is plugged in my wireless router the date and time is set automatically. Without that you need to manually set the time and date every time the power is lost. Thank you for the corner stop.!!
@@PappysCorner thank you for the help! I want to use 4 cameras and want to maximize storage. I almost bought a 512gb card based on my first view. I'm really curious what it would do if I tried it. @@PappysCorner that's what I thought, but this is the button with 2 arrows in a circle. Nothing in the manual talks about it. The other buttons have functions that you can see by playing with them. You think a 512gb card would get rejected or cause error?
Yes with a smart phone from anywhere. Your Cobra monitor has to be plugged into a router with the Ethernet cable. I do not have a smart phone. There's an app you can use and I cannot help with that. You may be limited to monitoring and viewing... good luck.!!
Harbor Freight Cobra is a nice looking, functioning system. I would not have any trouble installing this system after watching this video. I was wondering where that "shady character" moved to. lol
I wish it were possible far as I know this monitor is made to work with the cameras wireless signal where other monitors/TV's do not have the ability to receive the wireless signal. Thank you for stopp'n by the corner.!!
I've just bought this system but have failed to figure out why there is no audio recorded when playing back any of the videos that were recorded. When I click on the MYCAM View app and choose to playback what the camera had recorded, the video is crystal clear but there's NO SOUND. Why?
I have a question, I want to add 2 more cameras I already have 2 installed but I don't know how to add them to see them on the monitor and in the application
Do you know if there is s way to trigger recording with just the infrared motion detection versus the camera based motion detection? Right now it's triggered by every car that goes by because I can't exclude that part of the video image, or can I? I didn't notice any options to pick detection zones.
That's kinda what these security systems are about is recording any activity in its range. You can set the sensitivity level. I know something in the way of the sensor will reduce its ability to sense movement. One person has one inside looking out the window and the detector did not work as well. Thank you for watching and the corner stop and drop.!!
I got 256 GB SD card, but it won't record. Showing nothing on the recording file list. Manual says there will be a red chip display to indicate the SD card is working properly. Not sure where red chip is? Thanks in advance.

Can you help me out? How much movement does each camera have when. Setting up ? When you have more than one camera set up does it switch to each camera every few seconds? Couldn't tell 100% but are these motion activated cameras? Can these be hooked up to home network? Is there a USB port? Are these wireless to the base unit? If so what's the distance?
You can either view all cameras at once or toggle to view one camera. All cameras have motion detection. Wireless signal to monitor 150ft. indoors or 450ft. outside. USB can be plugged from monitor to wireless router and use with smart phone from anywhere there's WiFi.... Thank you for the commentary and corner stop.!!
I misplaced my comment so I'll try it again. I appreciate your testing and I know this is an older video. Harbor freight still sells this item as you probably know. The video of you coming up the porch appeared very clear for 720. Since there is no AV out on the monitor the picture you showed us is I'm guessing after you put the SD card in a reader to get a larger better picture? Also, do you know what millimeter the lenses are used in the cameras such as 3.6 mm? Thanks again for your testing and any response.
I have the same thing screens rotate or All four on at once or stay on one camera . it works good has good audio and video . the only wire is for power . the video is wireless picks up signal up to 80 feet away
I went ahead and purchased a set of these camera, and I have a question when I mounted the camera on the left side of my home the antenna gets in the way with the base, this is a not too good, the antenna should be put on top of the camera or away from turning the camera, what can I do in this matter?
Hay.! Thank you for the corner stop... I'm not sure what to tell ya cause if you loosten the camera's lock washer you can move it about pretty good as I remember... With a bit of finagling maybe you can get the antenna to tip out as you prefer... It may not be an issue for the signal.?..!!??.......... Thank you for the corner comment.!!
Pappy, you have had the cobra system with monitor for a while. Question how are they holding up and do you still like them? I'm thinking of purchasing one.
I would purchase another one, never had a security set up before so nothing to compare it to. I'll see how it handles the cold winter in Iowa. Thank you for watching and the comment.!!
Installing cameras and running power to them was the easy part. Understanding the instructions is the hard part. Can't get cameras to record motion at the times I've set them to record. I've been dinking around with it for two weeks and no matter what time I set it to record, it comes on at the wrong times. Anyone else having this problem?
I'd feel better if you mounted the camera to the outer part of the eave so it was catching the area at the front door AND the garage door if possible. As it is you have a blind spot at the garage door that someone can come up to going from the fire hydrant, left, then to your garage. Also... what does the camera cable hook to?
Hay thank you for the corner stop and commentary.!! ... No worries, I have another camera set up for the garage. The camera cable go's up to a walk in attic plug in. Unfortunately the cameras need a power source. The signal to the monitor is wireless (WiFi) You can move it around from room to room the signal will reach 150ft. indoors.
By the time I did the comparison was in night vision (black and white) but you get good daylight footage from the Cobra Camera with the shady character I scared off... The audio has some delay but not to bad.
Under the record menu select schedule record and manually set start end time up to 24 hrs.. Repeat steps for more days. For technical assistance please call: 1-888-866-5797. Thanks for the corner stop.!!
I don't know, I ask people to let me know if they get it to work some how.... I do not have a smart phone but you can use your smart phone with some app you can load. I used the files on the sd card to make this video of the shady character caught on film...Lol
I should have explained this in the video... Because the attic floor is above the recessed door entry. I did not want to drill thru the floor. Easier to run the power cable up at the front wall.
Thanks, it's in my budget, there's some really nice ones at Home Depot but these Cobra units are tried and true. Thank you for visiting the corner. Have a great weekend!! ... Pappy
I can't get my screen to come on please someone help does anybody have any ideas if the buttons light up at the bottom but the screen will not come on the cameras work fine it's just the monitor I don't know why it's doing this I don't understand
That was a very interesting video my friend. I bought a surveillance set from harbor freight a few years ago and they had Bunker hill back then . It works fine but no siren on it, but it does have the talk button, and it records ok. You did give me something to think about. Thumbs up my friend and I have subbed back and even hit the bell my friend.
Thank you for watching and being my friend. The Cobra unit is working pretty good except it blinks and looses signal occasionally. I may need to move the monitor.
Thanks man, "whats up" got any scuttle butt.??...could not have done it without the Cobra unit.!! Lol.... Thank you for the corner stop and commentary.!!
A couple days ago, when I went to the Playback section, on the green bars from left to right at the bottom, it would show in a different color (yellowish?) parts where there was motion detected. All I had to do was click on the yellow parts to see what motion was recorded. Now the recordings are there, like normal, all green, but there are no yellow sections showing me that motion was detected at that time, so I can click on it and view the motion recorded at that time.
When using my PC. I loved the feature. Like if it shows a yellowish 2 minute section on the green bar, all I had to do was click on it, and see who was walking through.
I found my problem. I looked in CAPTURE and CAPTURE SETTINGS and made sure the bottom row of yellow rectangles from left to right were turned ON for every day of the week, monday-sunday. Now regardless of what day/night there is activity, the bar graph shows yellow rectangles at that time, and I just click on it to see who it was.
@@HauntedInPA Wow I don't even know how to hit record.... You should have a little red icon of a person walking at the bottom of your screen when the motion sensor is working. Day or night should not effect the motion sensor.

Does the monitor have a battery in it so you can walk around wire free with it? Or do you have to have it plugged in?

@@PappysCorner I understand it has a cord. I was asking if it had an auxiliary battery compartment to go wireless. It would be nice to go wireless while positioning the cameras.
Thanks for posting this informative video. Next time I go to Harbor Freight, Ill look into that Cobra security system.
Thank you for visiting the corner.
Awesome John, Thanks for the corner stop and drop.!!... I have not tried that cool feature... I'll ask my son cause he may know about the screen saver setting.
Hi pappy, I wanted to let you and your followers know I have a camera set up inside my barn that is arround 90 feet from my house and it goes through a concrete wall and a metal wall. There is times it looses a signal then come back within a couple of seconds. Also I have one at 160 to 175 feet outside mounting with no signal loss going through one wall. I am very impressed with cobra.
Hay Ray Peet thank you for the corner comment.! Always appreciate a good bit of feed back with the reviews. Thanks a million brother.!! I hope the Cobra system continues to perform for years to come.!!
Add a wifi extender to boost your outdoor range, they are wonderful.
The question is...when more than one camera is in use, does the screen rotate between the different cameras or is it a split screen, with multiple cameras showing all at the same time, or is it selectable?
Hay thank you for the corner stop and dropping a comment... This monitor you can set up to 4 cameras on a split screen or toggle to just one camera you choose. You can also zoom and auto sequence mode. Each camera can be set individually the way you like. Thank you for the corner visit and comment.!!

@@PappysCorner Awesome sir thatnk you very much...!!!!
Is there a smartphone app for this?
Yes, I do not have the app, with any questions the link for the owners manual is in the description of this video.
Does it need to be hooked up to the houses WiFi ? Or can the camera communicate with the display with out home WiFi ?
Don't know... Mine kept beeping every car that went by so I shut off the alarm.

How do you set up recording
Thank you for the corner stop.!!... Here's a link to the manual: www.manualslib.com/download/1328455/Harbor-Freight-Tools-Cobra-63842.html
Any hunch?

You think a 512gb card would get rejected or cause error?
Are you able to use your cell phone with it, at home and away from home?
Yes with a smart phone from anywhere. Your Cobra monitor has to be plugged into a router with the Ethernet cable. I do not have a smart phone. There's an app you can use and I cannot help with that. You may be limited to monitoring and viewing... good luck.!!
Can you set it up without the monitor? Like to my phone

I have a question, I want to add 2 more cameras I already have 2 installed but I don't know how to add them to see them on the monitor and in the application
They need to be paired up. There are buttons for this to hold for the signal to find the monitor. It's in the owners manual. Thanks for watching.!!
Thank you for watching and the corner stop and drop.!!

I misplaced my comment so I'll try it again. I appreciate your testing and I know this is an older video. Harbor freight still sells this item as you probably know. Installing cameras and running power to them was the easy part. Understanding the instructions is the hard part. Can't get cameras to record motion at the times I've set them to record. I've been dinking around with it for two weeks and no matter what time I set it to record, it comes on at the wrong times. Anyone else having this problem?
Bummer, every time the unit is powered off or unplugged you have to reset to current time and date.
I did not notice that feature, thanks...you have told me something I never noticed. Is that while using the monitor or using your smart phone?
When using my PC. I loved the feature. Like if it shows a yellowish 2 minute section on the green bar, all I had to do was click on it, and see who was walking through.
I found my problem. I looked in CAPTURE and CAPTURE SETTINGS and made sure the bottom row of yellow rectangles from left to right were turned ON for every day of the week, monday-sunday. Now regardless of what day/night there is activity, the bar graph shows yellow rectangles at that time, and I just click on it to see who it was.
Hey Papy I have one more question, I have the motion detector on high but sometimes it doesn't pick up when someone walks by how do I fix that?
If the camera is laying on something it may not be able to scan correctly.
