Yesterday, May 1, BYD held a press event on the outskirts of Dunhuang, a small Gobi desert city about 300km from Mongolia. The car performed 360-degree tank turn on local streets and in the sand, and BYD some impressive videos out of it.

This is a cool thing. A couple notes.
This absolutely decimates the tires. If you do it on pavement, you're cooked.
There's no way on god's green earth that this does not put some sort of stress on the knuckle, struts, or anything important on those wheels. You can say they have designed it for it, sure, but after a couple ten or hundred turns, you're cooked.
Lifetime warranty tho. This is just bad for the tyres that's all

I have a '95 C3500 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab 8' bed... My truck couldn't turn a full circle on a football field. I'd still have to back up and come at it again.

The fun and showing off come with a price of reduce tire lifespan. Its for extreme tight turning, a dead end or narrow outback mud tracks.

@@jaypeedesuyo662 Your comment assumes that I meant that the action of performing the 360 causes the fire. I wasn't referring to this. I was referring to the tofu dreg quality. BYD showrooms keep bursting up in flames. Doesn't happen with Tesla or any American or European electric car.
@@jeron9272 Teslas burn up too. Just not as often. Their battery tech is much better now than at the start when they were actually running hotter and inferior to what they are today. I imagine byd is also copying behind albeit using cheaper quality standards as they tend to do. But if more burn that'll only make them invest into safety later on

Curious to know the lifespan of the tires if this is used constantly.

@@HanginInSF no transmission. each wheel has its own electric motor. only thing is these BYD vehicles aren't the safest, have design faults, and crappy batteries.

Liked the move, looked way cool, BUT, like others said, road surface conditions correct. Very stressfull over all. My opinion, this is not happening on asphalt, but maybe a few times until you break it.

Mercedes have had the same tech for years, only they haven't implemented it yet. The current GLE and GLS have suspension technology, but not the full 360 turn.

@Taneesha Jackson when you get stuck in sand the crawl mode will alternate tire movements to dig itself out basically, like if you go beach riding or in the sand dunes that mode will get you out if your truck starts sinking

Can someone please explain how it turned
the wheels all have their own motors. the wheels on the right side turned in one direction, while the wheels on the left turned in the other.
This works the same as on a tank, where you could for example move the left track forward and the right track backwards, and you would spin clockwise.
