This reminds me of a teacher I had in high school who was a true inspiration to us guys, as she was a strong performer not only in, but also outside of, the classroom. Well-rounded teachers like her deserve recognition for going long and hard in order to help young men fulfill their dreams.
I may be drunk at work and watching TH-cam, but this video has put the most bitter-sweet smile on my face. These people really should be revered like this, as their efforts are a huge part of what each future generation becomes. So this is hilarious to watch, but kind of sad because of the sheer lack of attention educators receive. Oh well, at least there's SPORTS!!!
abraham lincoln True the fact that if America valued teachers as much as sports stars, the relative level of education would be much higher, but conversely, teachers may do it for the money and not actually care to instill knowledge into the students. In any case, it goes to show how Americans would completely commercialize education if they saw people cared about it enough. Perhaps the fact that academia at large is somewhat of a struggle is a good thing, in the sense that it makes sure only those who are truly driven and passionate about what they are studying will succeed at becoming distinguished in their field.
abraham lincoln If America required as much competition out of their teachers as they do out of their sports stars, then this would be a much better country. Seriously though, hiring and then being unable to fire bad teachers is what is killing the education system in this country, not the amount they are being payed. If more teachers in America were as educated or as competitive as teachers elsewhere in the world our education system would be much better.
Not sure about the whole world, but this was partially true at least in ancient India about 5000 years ago. Teachers (called Gurus) weren't GET PAID by the King of the kingdom, instead they had RIGHT TO ASK ANYTHING they want from the King. Gurus were most respectable persons in the society. In fact they would get more respect in the society than the wealthiest business man, the undefeated and most powerful warrior or the King. Because they strongly believed that the future and advancement of the society is heavily depend on the education and training given by the Gurus to their students. The relationship between the teacher the student (Guru and Shishya) were not only util the education period, but for the whole life. Shishya would ask for the guidance, with all respect, to his Guru anytime in the life if he stuck somewhere. That's why, at that time, Grus were not only teachers but also called guide (Marg Darshak) of the society.
What a delicious fantasy. Teachers regularly getting paid millions plus bonuses and endorsements for the impact they have on the future. What a concept!
+MrQuickwit09 Let me poke some holes in what you said, if I may. First of all, I live in North Carolina, to give you an idea of what teacher pay is like elsewhere in the country. My mother and my sister are both elementary school teachers, both with a Bachelors and Masters in elementary education. My sister is a national board certified teacher. Between them, that is nearly 15 years of schooling. On average, both of them work between 12 and 16 hours a day. It is extremely foolish to think that a teacher only works while there are students in the classroom. For example, my sister is on maternity leave and still spends, on average, 16-20 hours a week working on lesson plans. And for teachers who actually care about their work, summer break is not a break at all, and no, teachers don't get paid 12 months of the year and only work 10. They get paid for 10 months split up over a year. And what do my sister and mother make? Less than $30k a year. And the cost of living here is either at or above the U.S. national average cost of living of $58k a year. So yes. I would say that teachers - at least here - are less than scraping by. It's much harder and more valuable to teach a person how to be a valuable member of society than it is to run a 4.3 40.
Firstly, regarding "anecdotal evidence," my evidence on teacher qualifications and salaries and the cost of living as it relates to those salaries where I live is far from anecdotal. Those are facts and statistics that the most meager of Google searches can uncover. Secondly, your "50% of America" gets paid far better than most teachers, and with the same qualifications. Lastly, and just to understand your point, athletes well deserve tens of millions of dollars to entertain us by running fast and catching balls? I'm sorry but the ability to jump high and put a ball through a hole does not a societal contributor make. To use the words of second century Roman poet Juvenal, America's public is more concerned with panem et circenses, bread and circuses, than they are with the wider concerns of society, and you are part of the problem.
+MrQuickwit09 There is more to our school system than teachers and their benefits. If you really want to form an opinion on this subject I suggest you look into those other factors so you can see the full picture.
+MrQuickwit09 in sorry you obviously know so much about teaching and I had no idea you where an expert, would you like to try to teach all my classes? Let me let you in on something 50% of all teachers drop out after their first year the same rate of army Rangers that dropout during training. These are people who dedicated 5 years of college trying to learn to teach and failed. It's not a cake walk and if anyone wants to tell you otherwise they don't know what they're talking about
Lol I actually wondered how this sketch hasn't been made before. It wrote itself long ago when people first started comparing teacher salaries to pro sports athlete salaries
Chicken Shawarma you do know having a good teacher who cares about their students and knows how to teach is also pretty hard to come by and more valuable than any entertainment person is, right? Though you've obviously never met one, so sad for you :(.
Aw I loved the part about the teacher engaging the introvert. Teachers should try to do that more often; a lot of times I'd know the answer but was too shy to raise my hand.
Best video of the season Key & Peele Here come the "I wish they did this in real life," "If only this was real," and, the classic, "this should be a thing" comments.
Kyle Witzen Of course those are the coming comments... Everyone can guess at how much better a world this would be if education were one of the most important aspects instead of sports.
They could replace teachers with many things, nurses, etc... the message would be the same... it's a shame society isn't like this... but watching people teach is just not exciting or entertaining

God Agreed I had my fair share of shitty teachers telling 10 years old kids they won't be good for anything else than picking up trash. But on the other hand, I had an English teacher, a science teacher and an economics teacher during junior high whom I really looked up to. Then at high school there was this English teacher I was constantly having arguments with until midway through my 2nd second year. By the time I made it to my last year we had mutual respect for each other and he even asked me to start calling him by his name. There was also an economics teacher at high school playing the bossy type but he really cared for all his students and on each final week of school he would cancel the classes and have us meet for lunch and have a chat with us about vacations, hopes and dreams, giving us advice. A really great man.
Well teachers don't teach the right thing in today's schools because the government wants more employees to pay taxes, so the people that become wealthy realize this and decide to live a life of intentionality & purpose rather than survival.
Dominique Jacques they had to have sponsored it cause no way they can use the big names they do in there videos without getting paid... advertising ...
Yup, I was about to say, that *was* a BMW ad. And it was a really good one too, wasn't it. They should take it mainstream, though. What do I care about some athlete driving a car? That's not inspirational. Inspirational is a teacher, a doctor, a poet, a civil rights leader, etc.
I will never understand how sports players make so much money and people that do jobs that actually matter earn far less and never acknowledged when they do a good job
Travis Mohan They do get acknowledged from where I live. Some teachers gain fame by their unique and effective ways of teaching, then students come rushing in for private tutoring sessions. After the teacher had become famous enough. They open their own tutoring center and earn exceptional amount of fortune through tutoring and endorsement for the textbook industries.
It's all about economics and business. NFL for example, the NFL makes over 45 billion dollars. There's 32 teams that's over 1.4 billion each team. The team's have around 40 people on the football team, they have about 30 more in coach staff and front office. There's only about 1300 players under contract, so it's a really limited job. They believe they deserve to make a lot, and the only people stopping them from making too much are the NFL itself that sets a cap max. The teams have enough money to give to the players, and still make enough profit as well, so they aren't really worried about it. Sense the value of the NFL keeps going up, player value goes up.
Travis Mohan because sports is a mega multi-million dollar business with a very small percentage of people actually becoming professional athletes. Simple economics. Teachers on the other hand are plentiful, and theres actually too many of them in most places. It doesnt take much to become a teacher, but it takes everything (including genetics) to become a professional athlete.
Jeremy Yap Yeah that should make the smarter people want to be the teachers instead of the bottom half of the class. Its not just teachers i'd say police officers as well. Better to have fewer well trained well educated teachers and cops. Sure that would mean increased class size, but that just makes collaboration more important.
I couldn't laugh because this is exactly how education should be valued! This is more like a fantasy than comedy. Magnificent job to Key & Peele & their team!
That message across the bottom about marine biologists hit close to home. I majored in marine science and got my bachelors 5 years ago, but I have only been able to get one science related job which was part time in a microbiology lab. My home state didn't have anything locally for marine science in high schools and very few colleges offered the major so I'm paying off over 50k in loans for out of state tuition. I know this isn't teacher related, but just seeing the way educators are valued in this skit AND using their resources to recruit marine biologists and expand their curriculum for students who want to pursue that? Damn, that would be amazing.
every time i watch this skit i almost tear up cause this really should be a thing, but no, titans ramming each other is what the public cares about so supply and demand.
it is sad when a logical concept like "teachers should get better than professional athletes" is shown on a comedy show. Ignorance holds back a nation from advancing in Technologies of the time.
athletes r smarter than high school teachers, they deserve the money they get, its simple to teach since its not really their problem whether the students pass or not, they can hand out homework and sit around for most of the day, then they get 3 months off every year, yeah its soooooo tough to teach (sarcasm)
@@SnowWolf90 Thanks for telling me it's sarcasm. Otherwise I would have never thought it was. Now that I know it's sarcasm, I am laughing a lot! Hahaha!
It's funny to joke about but our educational system would be so much better if we payed teachers more, and actually funded schools in low income areas.
Knight Solaire I know it's hard to believe, but some parents like to sit in and watch their kids learn. Days off are a thing too. Your comment doesn't make sense, speaking purely on numbers you could easily fill a small stadium with parents and family members of the Students and them watch their children compete with one another on their studies. If this existed it'd also get more parents involved with their children's learning experience. Like you never heard of the Debate Team, Spelling Bees, etc.
Eli DEVITT This isn't making fun of ESPN. It's making fun of the culture of today's world where we value most those who are essentially useless to a functioning society (pro-sports, coaches, actors, etc) and devalue those who are most important to a society that can function and thrive: teachers, social workers, scientists, engineers...
Eli DEVITT I don't see that. They use the style as a vehicle for the jokes, but maybe you can explain what exactly they're making fun of? You think they're blaming ESPN for making pro sports more popular that teacher's center?
***** no, they're making fun of Sports Center by making the aesthetic of "Teaching Center" a direct copy of it, even going so far as to imitating the mannerisms and intonations of the commentators. they're not blaming ESPN for anything, just poking fun at the format of that particular show while, obviously, using it to make a point about the treatment of athletes vs. teachers.
***** no one is devalued, they just aren't made to be famous or don't make as much money. Why? Because there are more teachers, social workers, scientists, and engineers than pro athletes. I hate sports as much as the next guy, but I understand why athletes get paid so much. Lastly, entertainment is not useless to a functioning society. Even cavemen required entertainment to some degree.
With the amount of teachers needed it is not financially feasible. you didn't think p[as 'oh that would be nice'. What needs to happen is not make standardized testing so important.
PhillipHunsberger i was thinking more along the lines of pay. regardless why would that matter who would care. there are awards now and no one cares; in fact Disney does ,or did a teacher recognition thing on their network. you are just ignorant to what recognition is there. wadis b.abdesselem oh yeah..especially when they accidentally wiped the face of their abusive girlfriend on the floor of an elevator. now THAT'S humility.
***** okay..
wadis b.abdesselem Arena Football League?
back in the day nfl plauers barely got paid, it just reached the million dollar contracts in the 90s
But this is a joke of course
this is soooooo great.... the production, the acting, the social critique. it gives goosebumps
These nuts get goosebumps against your chin...
As a teacher myself, all I can hope for is that my school doesn't trade for me a head librarian and 2 lunch ladies to be named later.
maybe u can re-sign for 6 years and 20 million dollars with 12 million guaranteed
LOL
Your school wants to accumulate cap space for next year when that happens. Hahahaha
Nothing but love however, "As a teacher myself" is redundant. "As a teacher" will suffice.
this shit is art
You say that like people care about your opinion .
you got me right in my feelings
i care!
And you said that like people care about your opinion about his opinion
Jake Richey Firstly, learn grammar . Secondly your replying so ha.
Hahah man this is just insanely clever, hilarious but painful all at the same time
Absolutely
What a wonderful existence this would be
This is my swamp.
maybe more the teachers, considering pretty much anybody can be one
You have to be the most ignorant person I have ever seen to comment on any status ever -_-
Briana Whitehead but this isn't a status...
somewhere out in the multiverse it may very well be a thing
this is probably there best, most thought out, and meaningful skit they have ever done and ever will do
Oh my god! I love everything about this sketch way to much
Finally the world I want to live in where education gets the right support
Now bring in something similar for nurses and we have faith in humanity
LVN's/LPN's, and up, get enough love. CNA's get stomped on. This has to stop. CNA's deserve at least a $10 per hour pay raise across the nation.
Nope
It just give me people more reason to complain about American culture
The barrier to entry to becoming a teacher is unbelievably low, so much so that software can replace it
Trying to indict American education policy by complaining about teachers compensation is so pathetic.
Teachers are quickly becoming obsolete.
Computers and books are all that’s needed.
Teachers are just another drain on the system.
That commercial at the end was just amazing
Strength Courses through me I am Velocity I am Power... so fucking epic!!! cinematic quality!!!!!!
It reveals crass consumer culture.
"His father living from paycheck to paycheck as a pro football player." lol
i stopped the video as soon as he said that.
+phelderson pierre You must be a absolute delight to be around.
That was great, Mirsad.
Almost as great as having these nuts on your chin.
😂😂😂😂
That got me too.
I love how the classroom is filled with cameras
Hatch22 yeah they basically made it a spectator sport hehe.
Gotta catch every angle. The fans want to see all the action.
that was some monty python level genius right there
D0NTST4RT
Monty Python est ma vie.
And now for something completely different.
Nobody expects the spanish inqui... i mean, this
I actually thought the parody BMW commercial with the teacher was more inspiring than when famous people do it
Me too, I guess we are in the minority. Most people would probably shy away from buying it feeling they would be underpaid like some "stupid teacher".
Jacob S-H thought it was legit an ad lmao
👍
I can't believe how well they did this, like teaching is a real sport
This reminds me of a teacher I had in high school who was a true inspiration to us guys, as she was a strong performer not only in, but also outside of, the classroom. Well-rounded teachers like her deserve recognition for going long and hard in order to help young men fulfill their dreams.
WorkOverTime I LOL'ed.
LoL
+WorkOverTime Sounds hot
What the fuck did I just read?
"I'd go long and hard on that teacher in AND out of her classroom"😡 .... Was it just me?
That BMW commercial tho. whoa
Ballin Balgruuf the new teacher's pet....😂😂😂😂
2:07 Max in the back! "She brings an introvert in the game!" I loved that!
If america valued teachers as much as they value sports stars then this would be a much better country
Well, a million dollars is unreasonable for any profession. But I agree with the sentiment.
It's supply in demand..Americans don't give a shit about education rather be entertained to forget...kinda like a drug lol
abraham lincoln True the fact that if America valued teachers as much as sports stars, the relative level of education would be much higher, but conversely, teachers may do it for the money and not actually care to instill knowledge into the students.
If more teachers in America were as educated or as competitive as teachers elsewhere in the world our education system would be much better.
we still have racism
Every 6 months I have a Key & Peele relapse and end up watching like 20 of their skits in a day
It's like I'm looking into a parallel dimension where America is a great place to live *o*
and now its back again
dasriM civozdeR I know I'm way late on this but I don't think people realize this is a reference to another K/P video.
If you don't like it get out
ancient Greece too that's why we still know some of thier names
+MrQuickwit09 Until you go through the struggles of becoming a teacher, and working in the system you don't have any room to talk.
It's not a cake walk and if anyone wants to tell you otherwise they don't know what they're talking about
How come such levels of creativity exist ? lmao How on earth could you come up with an idea of this sort for a sketch 😂😂
They're geniuses. No other way to explain this.
Lol I actually wondered how this sketch hasn't been made before. It wrote itself long ago when people first started comparing teacher salaries to pro sports athlete salaries
Um lemme think, because people complain that athletes make millions and teachers make nothing
@Liver Jar lol.. noice
Racial draft by Dave Chappelle, this comes to mind as a prodeccesing skit.
Tbh I'd actually watch this if it were in tv. It isn't even half bad.
*on
@NEGUS MBARKA what the fuck
@@vincettispaghetti9938 GIORNOOOOO
This so so true and So Sad at the same time. Wish this would happen in real life!
Archie Goes Mental Agreed, it's such a strange and subtle mood here. Hard not to have pretty serious feelings after the laughs
Chicken Shawarma your own educators clearly failed you (us)
Chicken Shawarma read a book, kid
Chicken Shawarma you do know having a good teacher who cares about their students and knows how to teach is also pretty hard to come by and more valuable than any entertainment person is, right? Though you've obviously never met one, so sad for you :(.
Archie Goes Mental Teachers shouldn't be paid millions
Aw I loved the part about the teacher engaging the introvert. Teachers should try to do that more often; a lot of times I'd know the answer but was too shy to raise my hand.
Best video of the season Key & Peele
Here come the "I wish they did this in real life," "If only this was real," and, the classic, "this should be a thing" comments.
Kyle Witzen
Of course those are the coming comments... Everyone can guess at how much better a world this would be if education were one of the most important aspects instead of sports.
His father living paycheck to paycheck as a humble pro football player 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
As teacher/janitor myself , this is am-wazing 😀😀😀
"humble pro football player" 😂
love this skit. This is what America was suppose to value instead of sports. I think this is the actual message of the skit.
They could replace teachers with many things, nurses, etc... the message would be the same... it's a shame society isn't like this... but watching people teach is just not exciting or entertaining
teachers could probably make more if we cut the military budget
Ernesto Gastelum that sounds fucking stupid as fuck
Aaaaand this is why we are where we are.
LunarXP Gaming lol we can afford to cut the military budget were not gonna die because of that. obviously you chose to be stupid if you believe were gonna die. that comment applies to you as well +Michael Mandeville. i bet the military has so much money that they waste some of it on petty projects just because they have enough
I just started watching key % peele vids for the first time and im now stuck here in a loop forever!
Not complaining, just putting that out there
Dude sameeeeeeee can’t stop lol there’s so many
All teachers deserve this kind of veneration. All of them.
Not all of them. Some of them are shit teachers, you mean most of them.
true
Brenda Schouten-Beckett Haha welp... you need a reality check
OnlyElfen my reality check was checking out your profile and blocking you. No trolls allowed.
wouldn't it be nice if we cared this much about education.....
If those nuts were my chin, you say.
J4Seriously W
Speak for yourself..
Well teachers don't teach the right thing in today's schools because the government wants more employees to pay taxes, so the people that become wealthy realize this and decide to live a life of intentionality & purpose rather than survival.
Spencer MoreSyrupJohn they don’t understand this bro. The education system is setup for you to become a good servant . Sorry i mean employee.
Finding a Key n Peele vid u haven't seen
😊
BMW should totally buy that commercial....the bmw ad was hott!!!
I would watch the heck out of that show
This one is among the very best of K&P. Such a good skit!
I will never understand how sports players make so much money and people that do jobs that actually matter earn far less and never acknowledged when they do a good job
Cause no one wants to watch the 42nd Algebra Bowl ESPN 9.
Vanger48912 LOL
Maybe if this was actually how our education system worked, I wouldn't have had a damn Baseball coach for a Social Studies teacher.
*_Meet the new Teacher’s Pet._*
It's nice to see Key & Peele try their hands at fantasy fiction for once.
Game Broskee lol That teacher burn...
+Game Broskee Fantasy Fiction? Do you mean to say that in the lands of fantasy, on the fields of fiction, there rode two knights across the plain?
In a perfect world.
These nuts on these nuts on your chin
I zoned out for a second and thought 2:55 was an actual commercial. This skit was well done
This is the way teachers should be treated! "The guiding force" : a hilarious yet apt description of the role teachers play in our society.
Seriously, I think this is one of the best sketches of these guys. They should make more of this!
I think this sketch is the most significant of all their work.. The icing on the cake was the bmw ad at the end 🎂👏🏿🥂
As a hopeful future English teacher, this is heavenly.
'I'm taking my talents back to New York City'. I'm dead.'
This how we should appreciate teacher. Tq key and peele for bring this fantasy world to the world
this is actually interesting
Brilliant Satire and Heart Warming! They get it. Good on them!
I fucking love this one.
This has got to be one of the most well thought out sketches ever.
every time i watch this skit i almost tear up cause this really should be a thing, but no, titans ramming each other is what the public cares about so supply and demand.
sam Flahive no i wouldnt, just like i dont watch sports now
it is sad when a logical concept like "teachers should get better than professional athletes" is shown on a comedy show.
Hahaha!
Now on a side note, how exactly are football players are generalized as smarter than teachers, who are generalized as lazy, both generalized by you.
"Even though his hand wasn't up he was engaged" lmao omg this is great
And I thought it's "he's gay"
Peele’s voice in the thick burger promo is hilarious
I've never wished for anything to be more true than this. Can you imagine how the world would be if it was?!!
As a teacher, I appreciate the originality of this. Great job!
Ruby Ruhf really sold me on the BMW
Didn't even realize it was part of the sketch lmao....thought it was a youtube ad
Rayray I was about to turn off, then I realized ...
Yo the introvert one is painfully true lmao
Not only is this funny but it's also socially conscious well done KP.....well done.
i thought the ending was an ad on youtube...for second i was like wtf is going on...lmao. classic.
as a teacher thanks k & p
No, thank you!
Sundertje don’t thank him. He only does it for the multi million dollar contract.
This is one of the greatest videos I have ever seen
If this weren't comedy we'd already inhabit other star systems.
@Krystyon KR Martin oh look the pretentious bufoons brigade appeared.
You say it like school teachers you anything useful or practical.
@@tolula9927 school teachers you?😂
@@CaseyCharles Yeah, it's the damn swipe keyboard on mobile.
It's funny to joke about but our educational system would be so much better if we payed teachers more, and actually funded schools in low income areas.
And things like this are exactly the reason Key and Peele make satire
As soon as you can fill up a football stadium full of non pedos willing to pay to watch teachers teach, your dream will become a reality.
I found out recently that the police in America make way more money that the military, I mean there's something wrong with that to be honest.
the foundation of society
Knight Solaire I know it's hard to believe, but some parents like to sit in and watch their kids learn. Days off are a thing too. Your comment doesn't make sense, speaking purely on numbers you could easily fill a small stadium with parents and family members of the Students and them watch their children compete with one another on their studies. If this existed it'd also get more parents involved with their children's learning experience. Like you never heard of the Debate Team, Spelling Bees, etc.
man, I've been working in education for two years now and this was right on the money
Literally every teacher's dream in one comedy sketch.
Who would thumbs down this? This was genius! Teachers are the real MVP!
Can Key and Peele make fun of ESPN for the rest of the season?
Eli DEVITT
This isn't making fun of ESPN. It's making fun of the culture of today's world where we value most those who are essentially useless to a functioning society (pro-sports, coaches, actors, etc) and devalue those who are most important to a society that can function and thrive: teachers, social workers, scientists, engineers...
Yes. And they do that by making fun of ESPN Sports Center.
Eli DEVITT
I don't see that.
This is a god damn work of art, move over davinci, Beethoven, and everyone on Instagram. Teacher center is the artwork of the century.
Actually not a bad idea
I actually think this would be a good idea if implemented in the real world.
PhillipHunsberger
That is a dumb thought
EvilDickism
How, by rewarding teachers with high standards, who get results? Yeah, what a "dumb thought"......
With the amount of teachers needed it is not financially feasible. you didn't think p[as 'oh that would be nice'.
What needs to happen is not make standardized testing so important.
EvilDickism
It's not financially feasible for the media to recognize teachers that actually make a difference?? It's free press.
PhillipHunsberger i was thinking more along the lines of pay. regardless why would that matter who would care. there are awards now and no one cares; in fact Disney does ,or did a teacher recognition thing on their network. you are just ignorant to what recognition is there. Besides some jobs are thankless
This is how things should be. Much love to all the teachers out there. Educating our future.
Nope.
It just gives people more reason to complain about American culture.
The barrier to entry to becoming a teacher is unbelievably low(barring grad school education), so much so that software can replace it.
Trying to indict American education policy by complaining about teachers compensation is so pathetic.
Teachers are quickly becoming obsolete.
Computers and books are all that’s needed.

no it shouldn't 😭
If this ever took off as a real thing, I'd watch this! I would never get bored watching it lol
I have to hand it to these Mofos,
Who else but Key and Peele could combine hilarious comedy with a seriously important social issue like the need for more pay and benefits for teachers, and the importance of education ?
F......ing brilliant !
