Exactly right. Listen to the lyrics again, SC, because Steven absolutely nailed it. It's basically music execs talking to the band and promising them the moon and and the stars, like there's no end to how rich and famous they are going to make them.
@@2GunRock IIRC, that was a true story. Back when they began to gain some fame, one exec went on and on about how great they were and how big they would get if they signed with his record company, and then he asked which one was Pink.
@@2GunRock Steven? You know this one of the few songs Pink Floyd featured a guest singer. None in the band was satisfied with their recordings. Roy Harper was in the same studio and he was hell to work with but that's Roy Harper singing lead. Hats off to Roy Harper
David Gilmour is one hell of a guitarist. You would never guess that he was born and grew up in a nice stately middle-class family life in Cambridge, England right after World War II. In fact, he played a concert many years ago where he played a solo not all that different from the one in this song. After his set was done on stage, as he went into the wings, a stunned B.B. King came up to him and simply said "Boy; you sure you ain't from Mississippi?"
I didn't state not the remastered version. Remasters still use the original recorded version. What I'm recommending is listening to the original studio recording version first, before moving on to later live versions of this and other PF material.
I listened to that album so many times when it first came out had to get a 2 or 3 new albums because the needle cut deep grooves in it..but I learned every note of that album. And I said album vinyl album. In them days that's how you learned the music was to play it over and over catch every note. Every once and a while we could find some sheet music..but rare people today dont understand how easy they have it with the internet..
Alan Peterson Who at any label could tell Pink Floyd what they could or couldn’t do? Pink Floyd pretty much did what they wanted, especially by the time of this album, when they were so successful nobody could possibly say no to them. Besides, I doubt the labels are that afraid of the music business being criticized. If one of the big bands today, like U2 or Arctic Monkeys or Green Day, wanted to do the same who would try to say no to them?
Love that some of the younger generation is discovering this amazing music (particularly Pink Floyd) that many of use have loved for 40 - 50 years and still love it as much as when we first heard, maybe more. Keep on the PF train!
The thing about Gilmour's solo's is that he put them down in one take quite often. He would go on stage and hit the same solo note for note, lick for lick. Makes me weep every time I hear his solo's. They are so beautiful.
The singer on this track is Roy Harper, a british folk rock(?) musician. A good friend of both Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Yeah, that last bit had us old buggers running for our record players wondering what was going on. :-) It Segues into 'Wish you were here'.
Pink Floyd did a lot of smooth transitions into the next song, without a break. So, if you stop during the transition, it can be jarring and not make sense.
@@rosswatson5996 I believe it was that Roger's nor David's voice was not what they wanted and asked Roy to sing it since he was in the same studio building at the time. Though it's been awhile, I might be full of shit.

Hey, I was raised on bebop jazz and rock n' roll (Little Richard definitely hit a chord with me as a youngster)... got a Pink Floyd tape from my mom around 17 (which naturally blew my mind) and then went on to 30 before discovering Parliament-Funkadelic on my own.... and they're now one of my all-time favorite bands. Each of us follows their own path. But loving music and being open to new genres is the key to happiness if you ask me. There is so much to discover and explore and so much to open your heart to. It's a real treat to see someone genuinely enjoy their first experience of music that has been part of my life for so long. It really feels like listening to it the first time myself.
Even though this is the first video of yours I have come across, this was definitely the best reaction ever and you knew never to pause a Gilmour solo. Amazing!

One of the best Floyd songs, from one of their best albums. I remember when I was about 14 first hearing this whole album,I listened to the whole thing every other day for about a month. Btw I love your air keyboards ;) good stuff. keep up the Floyd, and you'll open up a whole new world with some of their early stuff, especially the trippy Syd Barret era from the first album. He was their first singer/guitarist who overdosed on acid and went crazy, and stopped wanting to perform live. They brought in David Gilmour to keep the band going, and his voice became the sound of the band, along with his amazing guitar playing. The whole Wish You Were Here album was pretty much about Syd Barrett as a tribute to him. Shine on your Crazy Diamonds is really talking about him in the lyrics. Extremely good music to smoke up with lol The first time I ever got super duper high smoking weed,me and my friend listened to this whole album and I heard it and fully understood it the right way. It also helps that our weed was laced with some psychedelics .....so yeah, fun stuff.
Roy Harper, a musician friend of the band, did the vocals on this one. There is also a great blues number by Led Zeppelin called Hats Off To Roy Harper, with killer slide guitar. I was also raised on blues, R&B, soul and Motown but also classic rock. Glad you’re getting into it too. There is real treasure in there!
And you're just NOW hearing it? I've been listening to them (and this song) for over 44 years.I'm 59 now, but I heard them the first time when I was 14 in 73'.
Are you ready for a trip? are ready for a trip? .. Then let me take you back to 1968, The Chamber Brothers classic TIME HAS COME TODAY . The 11 minute version.
My favorite line in this song is "The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think...oh, by the way, which one is Pink?" Like so many people back in the day who had heard of Pink Floyd, the label executive actually thought it was the name of someone in the band. They reprise this in The Wall, where the main character of the storyline is named Pink.
You should probably have done, 'Welcome to the Machine' together with this one. Welcome to the Machine precedes this song on the album. In the 70s the album was king. Many bands wrote albums, meant to be listened to in their entirety, rather than singles. Floyd were definitely one of those. In fact, when music streaming began, they tried to stop companies splitting up their albums into individual songs and, as preposterous as it sounds, they sort of had a point... When listening to a Floyd song, you'll often hear strange sounds or 'additional' music, at the beginning and/or end of a track. This is because, on the album, the songs usually flow into each other, without a break. Or will be linked together with some kind of 'soundscape'. The albums will often tell a story, or have a deep narrative theme. All told in a sonic tour de force. The songs make much more sense when heard an album at a time and they become even more powerful. The best way to listen to Floyd is, to pick an album, I recommend either, 'Dark Side of the Moon' or 'Wish You Were Here' to begin with, find a quiet relaxing space, no phone, no distractions and just listen , from the beginning to the end of the album, no pauses. It really is an incredible experience, I promise you. It may sound overblown but it really can be life changing! Anyway... tl/dr - Some songs belong together. 'Welcome to the Machine' and 'Have a Cigar' are such a couple of songs. Sound great separately but better together. :)

One of very few Pink Floyd songs featuring someone other than a member of Pink Floyd on lead vocals. This one is sung by Roy Harper, who happened to be in the same studio when they were recording this album, since neither Roger Waters or David Gilmour were particularly happy with their own attempts at singing this particular song. Echoes live at Pompeji is way more driving, swimming, wird flying then the studio version: genius music thats where its at! Moving cigar reaction, love you
Scribe I have seen other comments mentioned Echoes. My preference is when band was in the Ancient Coliseum of Pompeii back in early 70's forgotten what year. They recorded Part 1and 2 of Echoes there live. Both parts are on TH-cam. I think Part 1 is longer than Part. Classic recorded video shows members when they were young jamming! At that time, it was 1st live event there since 79AD nearly 2,000 years ago until recently in 2016, David Gilmour and his solo band were there playing for live audience. Videos of the concert are on TH-cam too.
The picture you had up there was example of a picture is worth a thousand words, shaking the hand of a record industry agent closing a deal, you are getting burned.
A scathing critique of the record "industry" (corporate executives, etc.), and the first of 3 PFloyd reaction vids here with normal excellent sound... Yay!
Heh, I noticed the bottle of 409 too. I just figured that was how you kept the walls of your listening room so spotless. Parliament-Funkadelic is pretty heavy stuff too. Ever thought of reacting to cuts off of "Maggot Brain"? At any rate, once you stretch out past Floyd and Zeppelin, might I suggest that you check out The Who, The Rolling Stones, and David Bowie?
Girl... Check out David Gilmours' track 'No Way Out of Here' from his solo album Gilmour "Gilmour" He did another solo piece of work entitled About Face, Floyds' wordsmith and pianist Rick Wright produced a solo album called 'Wet Dream ' think you'll enjoy. Perhaps you're almost ready to wrap ya head around Syd Barratts' two solo albums he knocked out after leavin the band under a cloud of LSD and pride. Tracks like Gigalo Aunt , Rats, Wolfpack , life changing stuff.
I don't know if there are any "actual synths" used in this track, but there is a buzzy sound at one point I can't quite make out. In the background you hear the funky line of a Clavinet. The keyboard "stabs" are likely a Wurlitzer 200/200a piano. The beautiful "synth" you hear is most likely an ARP/Solina String Ensemble, which had recently come out at that time. The Solina is more organ technology, but why quibble? It's beautiful none-the-less.
I never want David Gilmour's guitar solos to end.
I'm a 60 year old black female and my greatest fantasy is doing air guitar to this song onstage someday. PF 4 Life.
Yeh! 64 going on 24 and still rockin'

Know where your coming from. Luckily I appreciated all music, big soul fan and at 65 years old was blessed with such legendary artists.
Here in the UK I had to import most of my music as black music was not played on the BBC, maybe only a little Motown.
As they say music transcends all barriers.
Your reactions are great. Very interesting character enjoy watching and would love to know more about your background.
No longer on the UK. Living in Thailand.😎
I love your reactions.
Echoes by Pink Floyd studio version, you'll never be the same after...
Echoes live at Pompeji is way more driving, swimming, wird flying then the studio version: genius music thats where its at!
Moving cigar reaction, love you

I have seen other comments mentioned Echoes.
Yay!
I dont know witch i like more , the song or your smile. Lol
Referencing and recalling the time in which they were being signed to a major record deal..
Oh by the way, which one’s Pink? Lol
Epic classic PF🎼
LMAO I love your reactions.
At the beginning is where you start with Pink Floyd. Hop on and hang on.
good lord, you're adorable lol
they really set the guy on fire in the album cover. No CGI back then
Regarding the 409 bottle-We notice everything girl...did you know there is a wasps nest up in the overhang behind you? MADE YA LOOK!
Girl...
Check out David Gilmours' track 'No Way Out of Here' from his solo album Gilmour "Gilmour"
He did another solo piece of work entitled About Face, Floyds' wordsmith and pianist Rick Wright produced a solo album called 'Wet Dream ' think you'll enjoy. Perhaps you're almost ready to wrap ya head around Syd Barratts' two solo albums he knocked out after leavin the band under a cloud of LSD and pride. Tracks like Gigalo Aunt , Rats, Wolfpack , life changing stuff.
So Bluesy with an cosmic twist. Love it!
Welcome to the Machine.. next
Love Your REACTIONS!!!
Welcome To The Machine is an eargasm :)
That was the late and great Richard Wright on keyboards and, as you said, actual synth
You have to check out the cover done by The Main Squeeze. Absolutely amazing.
