thank you so much for this video -- as well as your "do-over" video! I am driving to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in a few months and it was great to see the best and the worst Brooklyn has to offer! very informative especially with the map overlay. Thanks!
I'm so happy I found this video. I've been searching and waiting for someone to post something about the Brooklyn terminal, espcially the traffic and parking. We're sailing in October and plan to drive in that morning from CT. It should be a two hour drive, but it's NY. Add another hour, maybe two!
Thank you for this info. Excellent video. Appreciate all the work you put into it. Looking forward to your next video. Sailing on her this Sunday the 14th. :)
We were on this past week's sailing as well and yes that was an absolute madhouse getting in and out of the port. They haven't fixed the problems yet. Took over an hour to get in from the point of entry to the near port area. The city has got to do something about that quickly because it's a major deterrent to us cruising from there again.
Yeah, many people will definitely think twice about that drive into the terminal. We will do it again, but that’s just because we really did enjoy cruising out of that port on that ship. For us, it was worth the hassle. Still, they could definitely do better.
Thank you for this video. I am going with a friend in September. I’m from Jersey and was going to have my husband drop us off but I’m not going to put him through this hell. We’re going to take the train in and then the ferry to the terminal.
Thank you very much for the detailed information in this video. I appreciated it. I'm going on this cruise at the end of this month. This video is very helpful.
@meanderingmandj When you were checking in, did they asked you information about your covid 19 vaccine or testing status ? Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions.
@@kellyannbishop-siland4114 there was a health questionnaire that you print and fill out. I do not think it asked about the vax, just primarily if you had any symptoms. The people at the terminal never brought up the vaccine, nor COVID for that matter. Some passengers did choose to wear a mask, but they were a very small minority. I think I also saw one crew member wearing a mask at one point.
My father lives in Stroudsburg. Its a college town. Just something to help you when u get back. Just keep an eye on the signs in I80. If the speed limit is 55 just because its winding does not mean you need to slow down. If you are able to drive at 55 the winding roads will not be too sharp to slow down. The signage will tell you if it drops down to 40 or 35mph then slow down. Anyways i drive there a lot and maybe will give you an easier drive home once you are on I80 again.
Yeah, the 40 mph was just in construction on the east side of Stroudsburg and it didn’t last very long. I was actually just stressing a bit about having to drive into NY lol, and it came out as me complaining about having to drive 40 on the interstate. That drive actually wasn’t too bad, and Pennsylvania is beautiful through there. And, really, so was New Jersey, which surprised me. I had been in and out of the east side of the state many times over the years, and it’s not nearly so pretty.
Thank you so very much for the informative video!! It was very helpful, my big panic now is what's it going to be like when 2 ships are going out of there in the same week. Lot doesn't look that big.
Excellent video, thank you! Sailing out of Brooklyn for the first time in July. (always sailed out of Bayonne which is super easy). My daughter lives in Brooklyn so I've driven in and out the the city 100's times..., just nervous about the timing. Seems like even getting there early wouldn't make a difference. Also, you pay BEFORE you park? Bayonne is after cruise. Again, thank you for this very informative info!!!
Yes, we paid by credit card before the cruise, and when we left, we just drove straight out, no gates or checking tickets or anything. That was actually kind of nice. Getting out of there was much easier than getting in. Enjoy your cruise!
Thank you very much for this video. extremely helpful to see the path to get there. How much was it to park your truck for the week? I was thinking of driving instead of putting my kids through that chaos!
We did this cruise also on these dates, gonna be honest here, the biggest problem was we had 1200 Chinese on board and they were very very loud and trying to get coffee they had the entire area blocked to get hot water to take to their rooms, also a few actually took complete watermelons to their room
Oh well they paid for it. It’s their cruise too. Why do people worry about what other people doing. Never could wrap my head around it. I been cruising since 1983.
What race have to do with it (Chinese People). One thing about them they Not over weight. Also, Chinese people doesn’t drink cold water are and thing cold.
@@carolyngardner4999 The problem was they had no regard for anyone, they got in groups` and instead of talking like normal people they constantly yelled ,then trying to get coffee they had the entire area blocked soo they could fill their containers with hot water to take back to their cabins. They were rude if you were sitting in a chair a group would come over yelling ( they call it talking ) just to get people to move so they could sit.. I saved the best for last, they were taking the fruit carvings off the buffet and taking them back to their rooms.
Do you remember how much you paid for parking for the entire cruise ? Trying to figure out if Im better off paying to park elsewhere and just taking an uber. Thanks in advance !
We actually walked into the terminal almost exactly at 10:30, which was the start of our boarding window. It took an hour and a half longer than expected to get there.
@@meanderingmandj One more question. How long of a delay did the traffic jam in Brooklyn add to your trip? I sailed out of Brooklyn ages ago and was dropped off. I didn't look as bad as what you went through.
@@raynash4748 as near as I can tell, it added an extra hour to hour and a half to the trip, according to what maps was telling us it should have taken.
@@raynash4748 I went in and checked time stamps and it took about one hour and ten minutes from the time we first hit the traffic jam to the time we parked.
You do have to print out tags ahead of time and fasten them to the checked bags. Assuming you have done that, you leave the bags out front and they transport them up to your room. Once you hand them off, you are free to go. The tags come in a packet that MSC emails you for printing out. That packet includes your boarding passes and health statements as well.
I did the same cruise in April, the first trip out of that port. It was terrible to board but getting off the ship was the absolute worst. I will not book another cruise with MSC.
This was my first cruise, so I have no frame of reference. The Captain said 5 meters were expected, but I am guessing even bigger. The ship handled them like a champ. Unfortunately, some passengers did not (some folks got sea sickness). I got some video and I’ll address this more in a following video.
It was very rocky. I have been on multiple cruises before and it was by far the worst waves i've ever experienced. Some crew members said 20-25ft waves.
Highlights of this cruise: 1-Horrible embarkation, hundreds of people pushing their way into lines/cutting ahead of people, luggage being left in the rain, many people opened suitcases to find wet clothes. 2- A group booking of 2000 Chinese passengers who refused to line up for anything, forced their way in and out of elevators ahead of everyone, took over entire ship including bars/lounges but never ordered a drink, walking around picking their noses and tossing snot rags into hand washing sinks....absolutely disgusting group of animals. You couldnt walk the length of the buffet without 10+ of them cutting in line. There were over 50 of them kicked out of exclusive areas of the ship and even after being told they could not be there, would try and sneak back in through side entrances. 3- Buffet food was decent but I have been to rock concerts quieter than the buffet with hundreds of Chinese yelling at each other from 2 feet away. 4- Anytime dining was great service and much quieter than assigned seating (again, fewer Chinese at anytime dining), food however was mediocre at best. 5- The only redeeming part of this cruise was the amazing staff in the dining room and the bars. The 2000 strong group of Chinese ruined this cruise. Sounds racist but my dogs have better manners and they eat their own poop. Thanks God getting off the ship was quick as I couldn't stand another hour with those pigs. You were definitely on this cruise lol. Many accurate observations in your comment. However, for us, it did not ruin the cruise. We really enjoyed ourselves. But those guests you mention definitely required tremendous patience. I didn’t actually yell at any of them until disembarking when, as you point out, they were pushing their way in front of everyone. It’s not the race, but, rather, the culture.
