Please interview Rod again and talk about his band Argent. He mentioned it so much in this interview. Would be an awesome thing to do! You guys need to do music reactions to some of that band's tunes.
Back in the 70's, anyone who played a keyboard was known as a 'keyboard merchant'. Rod Argent had a shop off Tottenham Court Rd. in London called Rod Argent's Keyboards..so he was actually a Keyboard Merchant!
Once again, great interview! Keith Moon passed away 3 weeks after the release of Who Are You. On the album cover, he is sitting on a folding chair on which the words "Not to be taken away" are written.
I love stories like this. Thanks for these interviews. They really are a treat. We don’t hear much from these musicians and I love that you’re giving them a place to share stories that might otherwise never be heard. You guys are great.
Rod is actually credited with playing on 4 songs on Who Are You. In addition to the 3 he mentioned, he plays on "Guitar and Pen," Pete Townsend's ode to the craft of songwriting, a particular favorite of mine. Cool to know Rod is on that song!
How terrific, the two of you bringing us these incredible stories from a time long long ago. You're both rock n roll historians uncovering secrets of the rock n roll universe. Cool!
Such a great interview you guys conducted! Fun fact about Who Are You and Keith. There are no drums on the brilliant song "The Music Must Change" because Keith was unable to keep time with the complex time signature of the song.
That's the story but he played the same time signature on "Love Reign O'er Me" so I think his physical condition and/or drumming skill had also deteriorated a bit by 1978.
Rod and Colin always give great interviews. It also shows that they appreciate giving them. Great stories, very down to earth, humble guys. Glad they are in the R&RHOF. Thanks A&A for a wonderful interview.
I was lucky enough to see Graham Chapman, of Monty Python fame, lecture back in the early 80's. He told a great story about he and Moon binging one weekend in which Keith ended up leaving their Hotel Penthouse Suite through a window and walked on the ledge to the next room to get more ice, after Graham had locked him in there while he went to get some conventionally. How he lived as long as he even DID, it's beyond me... LEGEND.
Saw The Zombies a few years ago in Llandudno, great show. Keith Moon! Mountford Hall, Liverpool 1971. Sitting a few feet from them as The Who put on yet another astounding performance. Near the end of the show, people are shouting out for one of their live favourites from that era ‘ Water’. Moon stood up from his drum kit and threw a full bucket of water that he had near his kit all over us.. He was an impulsive lad😂
Absolutely love! Rod Argent was very good on the Hammond organ, he may have played it on a Who album?? In fact he played it on "Hold Your Head Up", great track for Argent!! The Hammond sound is beyond.
I can clearly picture Keith Moons devilish side as he screwed up the guy's (the Tank) pool shot at the pub. What a great story. Rod worked with all the gems, and he's such a sweet, very talented man. Thanks.
Time for a The Kids Are Alright movie night! It’s a movie that will leave you feeling happy yet bittersweet. The lads in The Who loved Keith, it permeates the whole movie. Please watch!

Would you guys be interested in a Tommy Bolin interview? While he is deceased I have contacts for a few of his close friends and bandmates. Would make for a very intersting story. Tommy toured with Rush, Jeff Beck and many others, played with James Gang , Deep Purple, Billy Cobham and many others all before he was 25! Just an 💡.
Jeez guys. Widely considered the greatest live album of all time--THE WHO LIVE AT LEEDS Tossup between that and The Allman Brothers Live At the Fillmore East which you guys did like 2 YEARS ago.
I read a book about Moonie. Hilarious story that there was a Jewish bar down near his residence and he would go in there dressed as Hitler with Swastica's sewn on his sleeves and the thin mustache and give everyone a "Heil" salute.
Apparently around this time Keith was engaged and determined to get sober and to combat withdrawal symptoms he was taking prescription meds but being Keith Moon he didn’t follow the prescription and OD’d
I had the opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in Great Britain in the late 80s. I meant Basia and Danny White while spending a day in Gloucester with a conversation about Astrud Gilberto but that's another story. So, anyway I'm sitting in a pub and a woman walks in wearing a sleeveless sundress and sits down at the bar. She raises her arm exposing a very hairy armpit and asks, "Is there anyone in this establishment willing to buy this lady a drink?" Others see that hairy armpit and cringe but a little guy with really thick glasses down at the end of the bar says, "I'll buy the ballerina a drink." Same thing again about 10 minutes later with that armpit. Little guy with thick glasses says, I'll buy the ballerina another drink. Bartender pours her another drink and walks down to the guy and says, "Sir, it's no concern of mine who you buy drinks for but why do you keep calling her a ballerina?" The little guy with thick glasses says, "Any woman who could raise her leg that high has got to be a ballerina."
Keith Moon was a small guy, and I expect he took more than one thrashing in his life, but he wasn't the kind of guy I would have been anxious to get into a fight with either...I'll bet it took a lot to keep him down and you would never be able to guess what he was gonna do...
In the early 70s, a wealthy promoter offered Ron and Colin $1,000,000 to get back together as the Zombies, but was turned down because they didn’t want to go backward. That would be nearly $7M in todays dollars. And I hate to tell the guys how much it’d be worth if they’d invested it in a mutual fund. That’s some integrity.
The man had his demons but his energy was well loved and will be forever missed. RIP... or not. Rest in chaos?😜 I know for sure he'll be sitting in a pub.
“They always like the minder to come with me, but we don’t need him…” Epic! 😆 Edited to add: I don’t know if this is the “minder” that Rod Argent was referring to, but man, what a great interview this guy would be: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dougal_Butler

A Zombie and a Moon
His piano on "Who are you" is awesome and anyone who goes for a drink with Keith Moon is a brave man.

Keith Moon passed away 3 weeks after the release of Who Are You. On the album cover, he is sitting on a folding chair on which the words "Not to be taken away" are written.
One reason he was sitting was because he’d developed a very noticeable beer gut from all his boozing

John Entwistle's track on Who Are You is called "Trick of the Light," a great song with, not surprisingly, a great bass line.
