- On October 6, a new Freshwater Pipefish exhibit opened in the Rivers of the World gallery. Of the world's 200 species of Pipefish - a relative of Seahorses and Seadragons - only 17 are found in freshwater. This exhibit contains three: Short-tailed Pipefish, Black-line Pipefish and Longsnout Freshwater Pipefish.

Are these now entirely freshwater? How long do these live in freshwater?
The species on display in this exhibit ARE freshwater, but they represent a tiny fraction of all Pipefish species, more than 90 percent of which are marine. The life expectancy of the species you're seeing varies from 2-3 years for the smaller Black-line Pipefish to 5-6 years for the larger Longsnout Pipefish.

What is the price of pipe fish
got 2 of these. seems they like a tank with a lot of shrimp to hunt and bushy plants preferably java ferns, tridents. the seller told me he gets them from indonesia and can grow up to 4 feet (that is still to be seen since they are still small). let's see. thank you for sharing this video. ive been trying to figure out as well what species this is. there was another species he was selling which had the body of a fish with a long snout like pinoccio...kinda see thru and small too. cheers _)
no chance they get to 4 Feet
Realy cool. I catch them from the brackish water lagoon by my house. I have about 6 of them in my natural tank some are even carrying eggs. Check out my channel.
