Other guitarists: *shredding some sweet Santana licks* Me: Hey I can play the Smoke on the Water riff over this entire backingtrack over and over again
Thank Frank Zappa for "Variations on the Carlos Santana Secret Chord Progression" Carlos cracked up and thought it was funny when he heard what Zappa had done
Fun track. I am an Irish Canadian so I can only buy a beer once in a while. Stuck in covid so got to buy lots of Guinness for me. Got to survive. All the best.
check out the Frank Zappa song "Variations on the Secret Carlos Santana Chord Progression" for a heavy heavy take on this classic groove. This jam track is another great one.
Check out Willie Bobo's LP's around TH-cam archives....... he deserves credit for "Evil Ways" and "No One to Depend On"; Carlos certainly appreciated the boogaloo/Nuyorican soul treasures of the 60's. We used to do a medley of "Evil Ways" into "She's Not There" and back :) Im - IV always grooves. Really excellent production here, thanks!
A ten minute Evil Ways backing track, now this I can fucking get behind =P Thanks so much for this NYS, It sounds amazing too. i'm adding this into my favourites =P
Man, i am reading so many People that Jam to this and feel it like i do. Wouldn t it be great to make a compilation of some of Your fans jamming along to your most iconnics backingtracks? I would definetly see that
What kind of chart is this? What does P5 P4 mean? R =root.why are there 2 notes off the fret board,at the left? What are the grey dots and triangles? Is this TAB? I will go study what ever this is if you would be kind enough to enlighten me.,❤ thanks.,
@@nowyoushred - Sure, Dorian is a minor scale with a raised 6th. I’m not trying to correct you. I’m honestly just trying to help other beginner soloists (like myself) by pointing out that the Dorian scale best suits this particular chord progression. That’s because if you play the sixth note of G minor, you would play an E flat note, which will clash with the C7 four chord (which has an E natural). So using the G Dorian scale makes the most sense, because it includes that E natural note. And that scale, as I pointed out, is the same as F Major, but starting on (or emphasizing, if you prefer) the root note of G. Hope that’s helpful for everyone, and thanks for the backing tracks.

Replace the C with a C7 to make it a bit more funky!
Yep!
This is a minor i with a major IV, so it’s really G Dorian. Play the F major scale.
A logical statement if you will: all Dorians are minor scales, but not all minor scales are D orian scales.

clearly a bunch of complicated jazz chords :)
Hahaha clearly
How about the Gm7 - C - D7 ??
I must’ve left it in my other pants...
Resolution is overrated! Who needs it?
