      the issue is now with BenQ, it is with the panel fab, they are not really making that because there's not really a market for it, The only company that can do this is LG, they have their won fab.

    @artisright thank you for the great video. Can you please tell me why a photographer/videographer would chose the SW321C over the SW272U if not for the screen size? In other words does the SW321C have any other advantage over the SW272?

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      mostly just size. The coating on the SW321C is slightly better than the SW272U but to the user it is imperceptable. And the nice thing about the SW line is that throughout all the models the spec are the mostly the same. i.e. you are getting a great panel with matted coating no matter what, just choose the size and resolution that you like :)

    I just ordered two of these to use as my main monitors for 3D animation and design work. I think the only missing feature that I would really love to see is if they were 120hz. Not because I'm a gamer but lower input lag and higher refresh rates really does translate to a better experience when using a Wacom tablet for painting and other tasks such as photo retouching. I really hope they consider increasing refresh rate soon on these color accurate displays. I wonder though, is it possible to overclock them at all? Possibly get them to run at 75 hz or 90hz?

    Art, great breakdown. Question re: 4k along side 2k for photo editing, one rotated to vertical. Would you advise avoiding using side by side or is the difference small enough? Backstory, SW272U & Q versions. I do loads of portrait work, great majority vertical orientation. Would like to get the 2k for landscape/horz orientation, rather than flipping the 4k back and forth. Currently using w/Macbook Pro M2 Max, SW271.

      You can certainly do that in your setup, however, you might see the variation in pixel pitch between 2K & 4K, this is an individual thing with a wide range of perception. Have you worked with a 2K and 4K combo before or see the difference between them?

    Hi,
    I have a problem with this monitor, maybe you can help me out?
    When I connect the monitor to the caldigit ts3+ on the thunderbolt port and then connect it with thunderbolt to my msi prestige 15 a11scs I get an ACPI Bios error.
    I restart my computer 10 times:
    With usb c to the dock: after 2 restarts I have the acpi bios error
    With displayport to the dock: 10 times restart: no issues
    With usb c and dp port to the dock: screen stays black ( don't see the MSI logo on boot)
    I test it with another monitor ( Dell UP2516)
    With displayport to the dock: 10 times restart: no issues
    I did everything I could:
    Clean windows install
    ec reset
    cmos battery reset
    but nothing seems to work.
    Now I'm in contact with Benq support and they say that the monitor is not designed to be used with a docking station and only for direct usb c connection with the laptop
    But how is it possible that a brand new monitor like this one is not designed to be used with a docking station?

    Hi, I calibrated my SW272U with PMU to SRGB gamma 2.2. Everything looks fine but when the photos are viewed on my iPhone and tablet, only the shadows look darker.
    Especially for night photos with lots of shadows, I have to compensate by lifting black point and shadows so it doesn’t look too dark/contrasty on phones. Daylight photos look more or less accurate on SW272U and phone/tablet.

    Art, can you say how large the native color gamut of this monitor is? I know you said it overlaps the Adobe RGB gamut by 99% but how much larger is the native gamut? Can you say what each of the native gamut RGB x,y coordinates are so I can compare to what I have now in my much older NEC PA 272W. I would consider upgrading to this 4K monitor if it matched or came close to what I have now. Thanks for the early review.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      May be 101 - 105 depending on the panel. By the way every monitor has only one native gamut, everything else is tweaked and profiled from the factory to much reference gamut. Some are large enough that it can cover 2. i.e. this one that can cover 99% Adobe RGB and 99% Display P3 and DCI-P3, so the gamut has to be larger than 99% Adobe RGB for sure. Your PA 272W is 99% Adobe RGB but not P3 mostly because P3 was not the standard then when the display was released.

    Thanks for a good insight video! I’m looking for my first photography monitor for printing, but I’m not still convinced why would someone go with the BenQ instead of the EIZO Coloredge range? Is it to do with the price to performance ratio? Sure the matt screen coating looks nice. And the screen itself looks quite nice aswell. But personally I don’t want to have any kind of a wireless control pod with my display.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are 2 Eizo, CS is about the same as BenQ in a similar price bracket. CG is the high end that cost 2-3 times more. Sure if you have the budget and funds get an Eizo, we all know that they sit at the top, there's no disputing that and BenQ is not really trying to compete with the high end Eizo either. But the overall market share that BenQ took and is taking from Eizo is no joke. As far as the puck, use it, don't use it, it is just an extra accessory, put it in your drawers or just leave it in the box will work too.

I called tech support and was told there was a bug in the software and was offered a fix which involved removing/updating drivers. When these fixes didn't work (Drivers did not install) I was told to just wait until March when a new version of PMU will come out. I sent the monitor back for a refund and bought an Eizo CS2740. Some excellent & welcome updates. I am curious though as to the limitations when it comes to replicating hdr for image editing, obviously the MacBook Pros have the peak 1600 nit xdr feature that is slowly being adopted by major web browsers, it would be great if BenQ could have replicated that close here for this display line. Obviously it’s not an issue if you’ve a mbp to compare with as a secondary display with the 272 series being the primary, but if you’re using any other desktop variant then that’s a separate purchase. What are your thoughts on this? As you’ve demonstrated, editing images for xdr purposes makes a compelling difference for internet consumption (even if someone like me edits for print)

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A few specs, XDR on Mac does peak at 1600 nits but ACR can't access anything beyond 1000 nits. I did an extensive test and made a video on this. You can run the display in HDR and use one of the dynamic metadata mapping mode HDR10 and HLG. But that is mostly for video. HDR for anything other than TV shows / movies are in the early days and we really don't know where it is heading at the moment. There're no critical mass yet so we have to see. Until our phones / tablets full support HDR and more display support this tech fully or natively, it is going to a niche that is one of those "it is nice, if I have this" but be ok with out. To soon to tell.

    • @PeeGeeTips
      @PeeGeeTips ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight thanks for replying, Art, your insight is helpful. It’s early days regarding hdr photography on hdr capable displays but it’s always good to keep ahead of the curve when making hardware purchase decisions, hence my curiosity. This display, especially your demonstrated improvements in the matte quality of the display makes for a very tempting purchase.

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue with HDR for photography is rather muddy, having something that is forward thinking now will end up becoming an antiquated standard later that is a big risk longterm, it cost more for every process of the way and in the end, those who got the display would still be upset.

    Great video but I have one question: I am mainly a photographer but would like to be able to occasionally edit my own 4k videos (purely personal and non commercial use), however I have seen elsewhere that the SW range uses 8bit+FC to achieve 10bit. which can adversely effect the smoothness of video playback as the pixels are blended. Realistically can the SW range be used for any video editing?

    Couple of questions! I found sw271 the absolute perfect monitor: 4k resolution for around 1k dollars, but I found about it too late and now its basically impossible to find anywhere in the world; so then I saw that next gen models were coming and here are my concerns.
    Actual screen specs are pretty much the same from 2017 to this 2023 models right, but BenQ was giving a 4k display for 1k$ (sw271), and now they are asking for 1.6k$ for the sw272U?? Any explanation? I don't see any logic behind this, I dont think a few minor hardware changes and the calibrate software are any near enough to ask for +600$ to have a similar monitor to the sw271.
    Would really appreciate if you could help me understand this situation, thanks in advance! And as always, crazy well made videos man!

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Screen specs are the same, quality of the panel and uniformity along with backlight bleeding is not. There're spec sheet and there are other aspects which I have gone over including the matted coated panel. I see where many would come to this conclusion, however, that is just look at the numbers, not all displays are equal. The LUT has also been updated as well. So there are more that meets the eyes.

      @AlexCRT ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArtIsRight ohhh I see I see, now things are starting to link in my head, thanks for the clarification tho! Also another question if you don't mind me asking, is 4k for a 27" monitor too much or 2k is more than fine, asking because of the scale adjustment you have to do to see things right, and thought about maybe if you want 4k, a 32" monitor would be more fitting

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      2k works for some, I would find a way to see it in person because the pixel density can be something that you need adjusting too if you are used to seeing what you have on your phone and tablet. 32" 4k works really well, I have been using those for years now.

    • @gosman949
      @gosman949 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the real answer to the price increase is that BenQ is using supply chain issues and inflation as an excuse to increase their pricing considerably! I would not suggest buying this because of this price increase.
