This video is extremely helpful for knowing how the cannon works (or not works I could say). I was considering buy this for the cannon. I wanted to put a huge tripod cannon on Mando's ship in storage (instead of a speeder bike). Though it should not be a big deal whether it shoots or not, partly the reason it is is because maybe you do not want the red bolt inside your gun.
This cannon, Moth Guideon's cannon, Darth Vaders cannon (all the bad guys) and Mando's hover cannon are all versions of the E-Web cannon. That is kind of cool being that it was a major role in the show compared to most non living things. There even was a speech about it at the end of season 1 Mandalorian.

I hope nobody got hurt by the spring-loaded launcher, that's the only non budget oriented reason I can think of for them to omit the play feature.
