  • Magnetospeed Chronograph Sporter model. This is a very nice and universal chronograph and it fits easy in a day backpack. I find myself using the Magnetospeed more than any other chronograph I own simply because its so easy and doesn't take up much room.
    Below are some links to the Magnetospeed and the data link, I would highly recommend getting the data link if you buy this.

    Thanks Kurt. I always enjoy your product showcasing. Better late than never, I need a crony and it seems like a cool one and several places have it in stock.

    Great video. Don't worry about the surface damage over time. I have close to 3,500 rounds on mine and it works just as new.

    I have one and love it. I found putting the end of the muzzle at the lowest part of the curved bayonet works best. I had no luck with a flash hider, so I take them off. The three big issues Ill address. One The spacer is either to thick or too thin. So I use some very thin automotive gasket material to shim. Two, tappered barrels, again I found shimming the front part of the rubber helps level the bayonett, ie my Mosin Nagant. And if the rubber is too thick, I just use a thin gasket material, take my time for the barrel not to heat up, max five shots. Third, the assemble loosing up on the barrel. This was actually the easiest fix. I got a small thin fender washer about a number 8, can't really remember. and a small Hillman wave washer, which holds great even tention. Than a smaler diameter flat washer which sandwiches the wave washer. Pulls tight, never vibrates loose, unless a shimmed gasket falls out. So it is prudent to check each shot for tightness, and this allows the barrel to cool a little between shots. I shoot 5 shoots to get my MV over a minute. That way I get a cold bore MV, a hot bore MV and a range average. But this is only one compotent of setting up my rifles. Here is the rest: date, time, barrel life (new, broken in, end of life) at th range barrometric pressurer, ambient temperature, ammo temperature, humidity, altitude in feet. Than I use range finder 100 yards to set up and zero my rifle. I also use the following Apps: Srelok Pro, Strelok, Digital compass for altitude, Wind meter. I fill in the blanks and set up my tables, and I'm there. I opted the Magnetospeed sporter because once I set up my rifles, and they are still hitting the target, I don't check until something changes. I also tend to try to do all my rifles at the same time, so I have the same weather conditions for zeoring that never change and if something is erased I have a weather back up. Over all a great product. If interested, you can see my scoped Mosin Nagant on the Badace Tactical sight April 11, 2019 post. Under the comments I show some interesting modifications for Mosin Nagants like adjustabe front sights using a hex bolt. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2459797620731727&set=p.2459797620731727&type=3 facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2459797857398370&set=p.2459797857398370&type=3

    Thanks for the video. I was hesitating between a real radar, a caldwell or something else. I’ll take this one, small, easy to install.

    Important to include that that the sporter version is not compatible with a suppressor and I don´t think it works with a muzzle break either.
    I would never buy the the sporter version when the V3 is available. The magnetospeed V3 chronograph is incredible! I´ve tried both and i would gladly spend the extra money on the V3.
    Love your videos, incredibly informative.

    my new Bartlein barrel is 1.25" in dia. at mussel and the manual says the Magnetospeed is only good up to 1"
    not true I just placed some white hockey tape where the spacers would really go and it worked no problem.

      Thanks for checking out the video.! I've used these for about 4 years now, finally bought my own a little over a year ago and I've been very happy with it. As soon as we get a little sunshine I'll get the part-2 done (hopefully sooner than later). Curt

    I was thinking about getting one of these until I saw too flimsy the front strap and I don't need some fancy app, I wrote down the numbers and crunch data using Excel at home. My Caldwell tent pole style works just fine.

    I know this is an old video but, I just got my Magnetospeed in the mail today. To save me a fifty mile round trip to our nearest shooting range I set it up on my PCP air rifles for testing in my back yard. I'm pretty sure I did everything correctly according to the instructions but no matter what adjustments I made it wouldn't give me any reading at all.
    Did you have to fiddle around with the settings in order to get it to give you velocity readings? I'm trying to find out if I have a defective unit or if I'm missing something in my setup.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TIM MONTANO I’ve never had to fuss with them at all. Maybe a quick swap of the rubber pads to get the magneto closer to the projectile a couple times but that’s about it. There are “hi-low” settings. Did you switch it to hi.?

  • @aaronhayden2471
    @aaronhayden2471 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I burned out my sporter strapping it to my AR with the break venting downward. It melted the plastic in the blast zone now it just reads errors. The sporter worked awesome on my bolt rifles! 30.06, 22-250, 243, 270, 300wsm. As you say in pt 2 just a little drop off from the sporter to my alpha shooting chronny. So, its not some reinvent the wheel/ gimmick. If you shoot bull or tapered bbl’s buy the sporter. If you shoot breaks take them off! Or buy the expensive v3. thats why im going back through these videos. Im doing more watching and research than buying. Bout to drop 400$ on the V3 cause i have a myriad of guns bbls and freinds with the same variations.

      I shoot breaks on my .223 wylde and have never had a issue with damage to the megnetospeed from it. Only issue I’ve had was getting the sensor to detect the .223

    Hello. Have you tried it with a pistol yet? They make a rail mount for pistols and short rifles. I am working on .45 loads and this would be perfect for the range.

    What if you have a handgaurd that extends right to the end of the barrel right up to where your flash hider starts? Do you know if it can still attach somehow? I could attach it to the rail on the bottom of the handgaurd but apparently there is no way to attach the Sporter model to a rail, only the V3 has that capability.

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, I'm not sure how you would mount this where the rail extends to the end of the barrel. The unit needs to be 1/8" away from the bullet in flight, so attaching it to get close enough might be a challenge. I would maybe contact them and see what they have to say.

    I have to ask this. how far does it throw you p.o.a.? I know from using surpressed rifles it throw the p.o.a. off. anything you hang on the barrel throws if off. i'm still a old school chrony guy for my bow and my rifles.

      Don't know about everyone else, but I would only be using this to check velocities, not shoot groups. I think this would be easier at my range, since it's crowded sometimes and I don't have to call ceasefire, walk out to adjust, set up, retrieve a standard chronograph. But I have neither now, just weighing the benefits/costs.
