I bought some C4 at the start of this year more out of curiosity than anything. The tub is still sitting in my cupboard pretty much full. The first time I took it I felt an initial burst of energy which lasted about 10 minutes before it faded away. I was really underwhelmed to be honest, as that workout turned out to be no better than my others. I have told myself that I will use it if I ever have to do a home workout and am lacking motivation.but I can honestly see that tub being in my cupboard for over a year at this rate.
hibiki54 nah most of us are like that..I used to take pre workout for five months and I realize the difference..you don't need to take it but u do get a lot more energy when u do still I get a crazy pump and always full of energy without but it's a different story when u take preworkouts it's like steroids
I have a friend who can't handle a high dose of stim, coffee is alright, but say 200mg/scoop and he'll get heart palpitations. Everyday though, he makes it to the gym, pulls PRs some days, more reps etc just rolling out of bed and rocking up. Me, I feel completely addicted to PWO's, I feel like I can't lift to my max potential without it, workouts feel half assed without it. Not to mention, your body gets so used to that big stim hit, you feel like shit without any form of caffeine. Would be nice to get used to no stim workouts.
I used to take C4 religiously, now I don't take any pre-workout, I just jump on the bike for 5 minutes to warm up and get the blood flowing. I find it better to not have to depend on a supplement for whether or not a workout or lift will be successful, and the money you save is a big plus.
I used to do the 3 scoops of C4. When that stopped working as much, I was doing 2 scoops of c4 PLUS 2 scoops of Arnold's Iron Pump. Yeah that was a bit much. Now I cleaned out my system, and all I use now is a mug of hot green tea (2 bags of ITO EN/Kirkland brand) and I'm good to go.
After I kicked up a tolerance to c4, I've rethought the point of my preworkout. I realized I want a comprehensive pre workout to HELP with my gains, not just a stim. I get a really clean energy off my current pre workout, and I don't go for that "high" feeling cause I just end up crashing halfway through my sets. Since I'm using something that's more than a stim, I'm not jacked up for all my sets, but I can actually FINISH all of my sets without dropping dead at the end. For any wondering, it's pre jym I'm taking now. I've noticed a huge difference in performance once I switched up my supplements from just a stim, to comprehensive.
Love Cellular C4 Extreme, like in the thumbnail. I've tried every flavor available at my local shop. Strawberry Marg and Fruit Punch are my all time favs. And yes, I do enjoy the itchy, jittery feeling. Although if I take it when I'm too tired (after 9pm) it does nothing for me..
Courtney Lam Same results for me also. I on the other do like the jittery feeling and itchyness. I'm currently taking Roct by ubervita as of now best stuff ive tried ever. Still have my C4 might have to get rid of it because i love Roct and the boost it gives me at the gym without the side effects of C4. Oh and its waaaaaaaaay cheaper than C4. Currently 20 bucks on amazon right now.
I am currently cycling off pre workout, cause my body has build a resistance to it. The pre workout that I used before was Musclepharm assault, JYM, and C4.
believe it or not, that cycle off that they recommend on the label actually helps a lot with tolerance.Whenever I take off 2-3 weeks leading up to mock meets, like just avoiding any energy drinks, etc..... I always feel like i reset my tolerance to it a little.
Never took pre-work. Years ago I used to take a fat burner and the caffeine in that gave me energy and sometimes sweats and jitters depending on the brand and dosages
I am a black coffee guy I do track preworkout from time to time when I cant get my coffee or if I am just lagging. I do like to take beta-alanine and I have some of that just the beta and I have it with Gatorade when I go in for my long workout sessions of 2-3 hours.
I had a preworkout phase, back when I was around 18. I thought that shit was the reason I could lift. Period. After a while though, I realized that I didn't know what the preworkout contained, other than caffeine and maybe some creatine. I started to get sceptic towards the pwo and what it might do to my body since I had no idea what was actually in the supplements. So when the reports of people getting really sick, hospitalised, and pwo's getting banstamps because of illegal ingredients I decided to stop using it. Best decision ever made. It was hard at first, but my body felt SO much better lifting without pwo. Nowadays I do need something before my workouts, so I guess I still need a kind of preworkout. But it could be anything from an energy drink to a caffeine pill, or even just a protein bar or something just to get me some energy before lifting.
What has always worked for me is doing a small cardio workout before lifting any type of weights. It serves as a warm up and believe me, your heart will not let you get tired. So after this you're good to go.
I try not take either. But when i do feel tired I take coffe or from time to time energy drinks. I was addicted to coffe aswell, but then I stopped taking coffe during the day so it would be effective on my training.
Taking preworkouts has its pros and cons IMO... i do get the best workouts when i take preworkouts but im not a caffeine lover, i dont drink coffee or soda/energy drinks etc.. So for me a small dose/scoop will take effect very quickly. A buddy of mines told me to not let my body rely on the preworkouts/caffeine for which it will cases insomnia and upset stomachs, and he was right, so i try to only do it maybe a couple of weeks with and without it through out my workouts schedules. Side note: i remember taking 1mr preworkout too strong for me and i started experiencing dizziness and upset stomach.
What's a good preworkout supposed to feel like? I'm highly tolerant to caffeine. I can drink coffee right before bed and still go to sleep. The only thing I feel when I take preworkout (C4) is the itch and it only lasts for a few minutes.
I feel like the reason why Lu is the way he is, is because he's always loaded on caffeine. lol I would know cause as soon as I intake caffeine I become so happy hahaha😂
I just started working out, but a friend of mine gave me C4 before my first day, and I didn't feel too different, and the next day I took a stronger dosage, got a bit itchy, but I was scared because my friend said I took too much, but I felt fine.( Tips on working out are welcome )
I use Cellucor's C4, but I don't use it for energy or anything like that, I use it for focus because when I don't take it and I go to the gym I'll be working out and I'll constantly wonder what I'm doing next instead of focusing on what I'm doing at the moment and it ruins my workout.
I've tried a bunch of pre-workout too, but that feeling of itchy arms is really bad with some that I can't focus on my lifts and it just makes me feel like I lose control of my own body. But ONs amino energy isn't too crazy and I only take one scoop, it gives me a good energy level without the crazy jitters. But I love energy drinks too lol
I've tried a number of preworkouts. C4 of course. Mesomorph but that gave me really bad anxiety. Bucked up (cuts and bulk) then grew a tolerance for that. Mr. Hyde cutz god bless but I think they're discontinuing that bc I can't find it anywhere. C4 ripped which really helped. Now trying this new preworkout called LIT. lol but that's been in the course of 3 years.
I went from C4 to EPIQ(was good to maintain my energy levels throughout my workout) to SuperpumpMax(First time I benched 225 was on it but id always 2 scoop it) to Superfreak(This is now my favorite, gives me mad pumps, but i sometimes give headaches because my body wants to keep going and my mind is is like STAAAAP!) to Superpump 3.0( not as good as superpumpmax) and now im back at SuperFreak.
i have never tried pre workout because when i start lift even when i am tired after school i am getting amped up and i feel if i started with pre workout if would end up being expensive because i train 6 times a week
I only take pre-workout during summer to help with vascularity and quicker results haha, it is true though that they can be very addicting and dangerous if you don't cycle off of it!
Bart Kwan Hey man, just my 2 cents I'd like to share but first off LOVE your page and all that your doing with Barbell Brigade Truly inspiring! Anyway I'm a pharmacist by trade but the Iron is my first love. The only ingredient in pre-workout that really has an effect is the caffeine and the other stimulants they probably sneak in there since supplements are not tightly regulated by the FDA. A MAIN compenent of any drug is a building of tolerence. and For caffeine its really bad for the strength athlete. In the short term it gets you a shit ton of energy ABOVE your baseline and you get a great workout. However caffeine blocks a key sleep chemical adenosine which tells your body just how much rest you need each night. As you continue to take more caffeine you get less quality sleep and you won't notice because it happens slowly over time. Your recover less and less and you need the caffeine more and more just to reach your baseline. Also, sleep is important to not only recover but its the time your body produces key anabolic hormones like HGH, test, and so on. So overall esp. for people who already have a cup of coffee a day. Pre-workout is actually more detrimental than helpful.
YES! NitraFlex! Only pre-workout I take and it always works. My body is super sensitive to caffeine since I don't drink coffee or any caffeinated beverage. Orange flavor is crack.
I stack Hyde and Jekyll from ProSupps!!! Never used to use pre workout but when I started to wake up around 4:15am get ready and to run 2.4 miles to be at the gym by 5am. Pre workout gave me the boost and drive to knock that shit out!
Currently, I just drink coffee for lighter days, deloads, etc. For the heavier phases, I love taking Nutrex's Outlift. Clinically dosed pre-workout bliss.
i drink rwo cups of coffe + whey protein with 5mg of Beta alanin for better focus (dont know if it really works dont even have issues with it) and 5 mg of creatin and thats bassicly it ! *Sorry for my bad english*
I used to be in the pre work out craze and after I had pre workout on an empty stomach and through up i stopped and now that I'm playing water polo and go to the gym after practice i feel like i might go back due to me getting feeling tired more
I feel the same way if i dont take the pre workout (c4) I instantly feel like it wont be a good workout and it sucks cause i literally have to take it. I know its not good but i cant help it i feel so much better when i do take it. I LOVE C4!!
lol i've built up a super tolerance to caffeine where i've had 2-3 cups of coffee throughout the day and then a scoop of preworkout (sometimes with half a can of monster) at around 6pm, it would do nothing for me, I'd finish my workout and go to sleep like a baby by 11pm. My preworkout of choice isn't filled with a ton of ingredients, super clean with just creatine, caffeine (200mg), beta alanine, and L-tyrosine--it's by Citadel Nutrition, Tier 1 (recently ordered Tier 1+ w/ 300mgs of caffeine). It tastes awesome and many youtubers use it.
I never understood the preworkout craze because to me when guys would throw "science" at me to justify it, it always struck me as marketing bullshit. Personally, I grab a bottle of water and go right into the gym, and get right into my workout since I workout really early in the morning. And from what I have learned, if you eat the proper amount when you are supposed to, preworkout doesn't really do much for you.
I believe pre workout is bs. You are paying 45 dollars for 30 servings of powder which contains a key ingredient that has scientifically been shown to improve atheltic performance, caffeine. Buy caffeine pills save money and still get the benefits of lifting on pre workout.
I only take preworkout 1 or 2 times a week for about a month at a time- and only if I feel like I could get a killer workout without even taking it. Helps me push me beyond my limits from time to time! When I do take it, I make it count too- I take 1 scoop each of hyde and jekyll preworkouts. Shit's intense.
I use Mr. Hyde and I have been for a few months. I've built a tolerance which is bad so I've been cycling my pre workout. But yes I'm for sure addicted
I don't want to sound like a advertisement cause trust me I'm not just helping out some other preworkout users, I've tried C4,GAT,some cheap stuff (ran out), optimum nutrition pre workout and spark and the new preworkout legion pulse. The best I've ever used and still use Is legion pulse I'm so focused and it gives me great pumps. Spark is good havent used it long term do I don't know much but I've read people had minor medical problems with spark nothing serious though.
I take C4 right now, I cycle it on an off 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Margarita and Watermelon are my favs. The only other pre-workout I've tried was Jac3d and that was the BEST before it got band, legit. I keep a log of my PR's and I would lift 40lbs more on it, my PR's just exploded. Lou I can relate with you, when I first bought Jac3d (1st preworkout ever) I went over a friends house to watch a movie, and I was just to exited I had to take it. So, I made a quick batch, NOTHING so I threw in another scoop NOTHING, so 30min into the movie I started to sweat and get a little hyped LOL, I excused myself because no one knew I took it went into the bath room and paced around a few times and started doing push-ups in the BATHROOM LMFAO I felt like going outside and picking up cars, maybe wrestling a few giraffes ...never saw the end of that movie
I was on the Jack3d hard. 3, 4, hr workouts plus an hour of Cardio like a monster. I quit when I took 4 scoops, worked out then passed out in my kitchen making my protein drink. They banned it shortly afterwards. It was amazing while it lasted.
The only time I ever take preworkout is if I bum it off my friends. It's too expensive. I just drink my coffee. I also had a scary experience once too. I got a sample serving of Pump Igniter from a supplement shop for free and when I took it my throat swelled up a little bit and I go tunnel vision. So after that I pretty much have never taken any preworkouts.
+Tommy Touhghnuts Pure caffeine pills are cheap though. Single ingredient supplements are the way to go, combine them if you want. Everything else is overpriced junk sold the fleece you.
Gnar pump or N.O. Xplode if i can afford it at the time, if i cant and im all out i drink a big red bull, got my max deadlift first time i had a red bull. lol
during my caffeine junkie days i take monster + 2 scoops of c4 extreme.. and my current 1 rem max turns into a 2 repmax.. unfortunately the crash afterwards is extreme aswll
For Gio- from my understanding you're supposed to cycle preworkouts so you don't get used to them. Since you always drink coffee and energy drinks, try to back off of them for about 2 weeks, and then try a preworkout and it should work really well. P.S- I'm a 17 year old lifter and I'd love the opportunity to come to LA and lift with you guys. You all are super influential whether you know it or not. Thanks for all the motivation!
Guys guys, why pre workout ?? I only drink like 8_10oz of coffe with one spoon of brown sugar aNd half spoon of cinnamon and that really kicks me in and the best of all is all natural
Nothing beats the crazy feeling from "craze" and 13dmaa napalm from back in the day, but I feel those pwo's took away from the rest of my day. I stopped taking things with proprietary blends and went with preworkouts with scientifically proven dosages. 3.2g Beta alanine, 3g l tyrosine, 2-300mg caffeine, 5g creatine and 6-8g citrulline malate is what I take now. Don't feel cracked out, and has helped me build my own beast mode switch.
Not only do U build a tolerance to caffeine but in the process of that U are exhausting your adrenal glands, caffeine stimulates the adrenal gland so u produce adrenaline or so they call it put U in the "flight or fight" mode, the more preworkout you take the more your body relies on the caffeine content of the preworkout to stimulate your adrenal glands and that's why you no longer can workout with it again, taking a month off preworkout also will not do anything that's like parking a totalled car and waiting for it to be fixed, you actually have to do something about it, look into something like stress care pills to repair your adrenal gland.
Best Preworkout.. Coffee, preferably Colombian or French Roast. Hawaiian works too. So does Jamacian. Pretty much any strain of coffee is good preworkout.
You don't need preworkout, all you need is to ampt up with a good song ! if you tired af and you've got a heavy session, drink a cup of black coffee and that's it
Theres nothing better than mixing them, but on the real, it does make you feel like youre about to have a heart attack, cant be doing that all the time. and i try to cycle in order for me not to become so addicted and dependent on it that i need to take 5 scoops. ill run out of pre workout in a week
Wow Lou. He really needs to deload his caffeine/preworkout. Give your system some time to reset so you won't need to take so many scoops. My personal fav preworkout is Bullnox.
i hope they make like 5 videos back to back, then upload one each day, because that would save them so much hassle and time. these are the small stuff that bother me and keep me up at night
Jason Grenier Yeah man, i've been taking it on and off for the last few months, and really enjoy it. I get have great endurance and focus on it. I was just surprised that it's Lou's goto, since it has less mg of caffeine per serving than Mr.Hyde and others.
I've recorded my lifts for the past 2 years and iv recorded work outs with and without and I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't affect MY lifts in any way.
after using a pre workout for a few weeks I get used to it, so I have to keep taking more scoops than it says. After i finish one pre workout i buy a different brand, i use too take c4 but i had too take 3-4 scoops then i switched to the curse. it basically gets me un use to the other one so when i go back to it. one scoop works again.
No Pre Workouts here, my pre workout are my thoughts of conquering the world and a 15 song playlist
Lu's heart is gunna explode in his damn chest
Exactly lol
What chest?
Lmao! What chest...
It's crazy how he only benches like 245 lol
He said it burns gong down. If it burns it's probably bad. Write that down
I've never used pre workout and don't feel the need to use it ever
danlsan Good choice but you`re missing out :)
danlsan That's good for you. It means you have a lot of energy and get plenty of rest.

"only when i haven't eaten i feel like i'm going to have a stroke" hahahahah
being addicted to pre workout is like being addicted to fapping, all it takes is a strong mind to get over it ;)
I like to jerk off
i dont like to jerk off but sometimes i have to :(
#single
Punjabi GAINZ DAMN MY MINDS WEAK AS FUCK :(
quangfps single ppl problem aka first world problems. .we feel ya bro
Punjabi GAINZ Not true man... I have stopped taking pre workout before and it wasnt hard.I stopped fapping and my shit got too hard. amirite?

Taking a nap before hitting the gym, is the best preworkout!

Courtney Lam Agreed! I love C4 and both of the flavors you picked are my favorite also.
I take c4 and don't like the itchyness because I sweat a lot and the itching is a bother.
Courtney Lam I like the Margarita and Watermelon !

The other day I nearly had one scoop of C4 before working out... Already felt sick :/ usually I do .75 and I'm good, I guess I'll stick with .75 😵
Lmao
I am currently cycling off pre workout, cause my body has build a resistance to it. The pre workout that I used before was Musclepharm assault, JYM, and C4.
I feel so incomplete without 2 scoops of C4! Lol
Pulse
lol I usually go with 3 and half scoops in order to feel the full effect. haha
DOGE is it cos you're a doge. like 1 human yr is 7 doge yrs. so you need 3.5 scoops?
LOL yes
DOGE much buff. so steroid. wow
I've been using the same pre-workout as bart when he mentioned it in a video a while back. Plain coffee actually amps me up.
C4 - Strawberry Margarita. 2 Scoops.
Gives me more than enough energy to blast through my workouts on a daily basis. Love that stuff.
believe it or not, that cycle off that they recommend on the label actually helps a lot with tolerance.Whenever I take off 2-3 weeks leading up to mock meets, like just avoiding any energy drinks, etc..... I always feel like i reset my tolerance to it a little.

Look into caffeine pills way cheaper
I got 45 servings for like 30$
Caffeine pills is 200 servings for 8 dollars
Stop overtraining recovery is growth
How so ? Studies have shown that caffine actually has many health benefits and artificial sweetners are safe in low dosages.
I only take pre-workout during summer to help with vascularity and quicker results haha, it is true though that they can be very addicting and dangerous if you don't cycle off of it!

HalfACuzzy yeah, to bad it had amphetamines in it :c
Its supposed to come back this year
HalfACuzzy Craze was LIFE.
it's back already on predator nutrition it's craze v2
Currently, I just drink coffee for lighter days, deloads, etc. For the heavier phases, I love taking Nutrex's Outlift. Clinically dosed pre-workout bliss.

YERBA MATÈ Best source of energy
I used to be in the pre work out craze and after I had pre workout on an empty stomach and through up i stopped and now that I'm playing water polo and go to the gym after practice i feel like i might go back due to me getting feeling tired more
Love u guys 💪👌
I feel the same way if i dont take the pre workout (c4) I instantly feel like it wont be a good workout and it sucks cause i literally have to take it. I know its not good but i cant help it i feel so much better when i do take it. I LOVE C4!!
Where do you find the old preworkouts with dmaa?? Jack3d original anyone??
lol i've built up a super tolerance to caffeine where i've had 2-3 cups of coffee throughout the day and then a scoop of preworkout (sometimes with half a can of monster) at around 6pm, it would do nothing for me, I'd finish my workout and go to sleep like a baby by 11pm.
I only take it on days I'm going to max, or when I feel tired as shit before I'm going to lift. 30 servings lasted me over 6 months
EC or ECA stack is pretty much godking preworkout out, outside of banned subs. And helps insanely while cutting.
I dont get pre for the science, i get it for how it makes me feel in the gym.
QuestionmarkX3 there's a time when you're "supposed" to eat? Who did the supposing?
hopkinspro or just drink some tasty coffee (not instant)
Alistair Stewart I am referring to the preworkout small meal/snack that you are supposed to eat like 45 minutes before you start.
I don't even work out but I watch these videos for Lu
There's nothing better than eating egg whites while hearing Alex talk about his poop/vomit story :D
GEO im exactly like u ive tried pre-work out that friends take and i never feel anythin. its the same with energy drinks
What do you guys eat before workout? Is it still considered prework out?
I look at it like going out and drinking: you don't need to drink when you go out to have a good night but it will be a lot more fun if you do!
I take C4 in the title picture. I love it, and it works for me. 2 scoops 30 minutes before hand, and I'm set.
1-3 Dimethyl pre-workouts make me feel like the damn bar is going to snap. Highly recommended feeling...
When will you restock the barbell brigade snapbacks?
I've been drinking any of the Rockstar Pure Zero series during my workouts. All the preworkouts seem to give me the shits something fierce.
I used to like both pre workouts and energy drinks but now i just drink strong coffee like starbucks or maybe a good energy drink and im good to go !
I usually take 1 scoop of c4 extreme but when i feel like I'm going to have a bad day i take around 3-4 scoops
Lu is f'in hilarious hahahahaha
Gnar pump or N.O. Xplode if i can afford it at the time, if i cant and im all out i drink a big red bull, got my max deadlift first time i had a red bull. lol
1 scoop blackstone labs extreme dust + 1 scoop angel dust v2. buckle down, you're going for a ride
i think im like lu, in that ive had preworkouts and they dont do much, if i took like 4 scoops maybe it would kick in.
during my caffeine junkie days i take monster + 2 scoops of c4 extreme.. and my current 1 rem max turns into a 2 repmax.. unfortunately the crash afterwards is extreme aswll
Metabolic Nutrition - ESP preworkout is some next level shit
whats the background music?
caffeine pills are imo much better lol aside from being 100x cheaper, 1 pill is plenty and i have high tolerance, 2 usually keeps me up at night
Pop one around 4.. Get off work at 5 and kill the workout!!
Thanks for the tip cuh
i usually take it as soon as i get into the gym since i keep em there and by the time I'm ready and got my warmup sets in, i start to feel it
Deni Hadziabdic True story
Guys guys, why pre workout ?? I only drink like 8_10oz of coffe with one spoon of brown sugar aNd half spoon of cinnamon and that really kicks me in and the best of all is all natural
I like c4.... Normally take two tubs worth then cycle off because I find myself doing 2scoops with red bull at the end... No bueno!!
1 cup of coffee in the morning is all I need.
went through a phase got sick and tired as my adrenals and cns became too fatigued
Anyone know anything about Bart's documentary? Is it coming this year?
what can u take instead of caffeine? im allergic to caffeine it makes me sleepy instead of hyper.
Sometimes, when I'm feeling really risky and I'm on my cycle, I don't check for veins, I just inject.
Don't feel cracked out, and has helped me build my own beast mode switch.
took it for the first time, not knowing the effects, thought i was dying when the tingling sensation hit me XD
It's always a line before I work out and a line after
i take too much preworkout with AMP HCL which is basically 1.3 DMAA
i need a preworkout AA group
My personal fav preworkout is Bullnox.
i hope they make like 5 videos back to back, then upload one each day, because that would save them so much hassle and time. these are the small stuff that bother me and keep me up at night
beat at the beginning?
Did Lou say "Nitraflex" as in GAT Nitaflex???
yep
Unholymethod That shit is good stuff. I went HAM on bench after taking it. The first week on it I could hardly get to sleep.
Jason Grenier Yeah man, i've been taking it on and off for the last few months, and really enjoy it. I get have great endurance and focus on it.
I was just surprised that it's Lou's goto, since it has less mg of caffeine per serving than Mr.Hyde and others.
Unholymethod Yeah it may not have the caffeine but it's got all kinds of other stimulants to get you going.
This guy's taking 4 scoops of GAT?!
I've recorded my lifts for the past 2 years and iv recorded work outs with and without and I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't affect MY lifts in any way.
I had open heart surgery when I was 2 years old. Is it bad to take pre workout for me??
after using a pre workout for a few weeks I get used to it, so I have to keep taking more scoops than it says. After i finish one pre workout i buy a different brand, i use too take c4 but i had too take 3-4 scoops then i switched to the curse. it basically gets me un use to the other one so when i go back to it. one scoop works again.
