I remember reading Tell The Wolves I'm Home some years ago, and I enjoyed it immensely. It was one of a very few books that made me actually cry.

Yes to Tell the Wolves I'm Home! I've been recommending that to anyone and everyone for years hoping that one day BookTube will make it one everyone reads.

Came to say this! I read it many years ago now and loved it so much, can distinctly remember sobbing at the ending but have since forgotten exactly what happens lol. I’ve never heard anybody on booktube talk about this so very excited to see you intrigued to pick it up. I don’t mind ‘twee’ on occasion, but don’t recall this being twee in the slightest so think you’ll really enjoy it! Lots of other interesting books here. Am very interested in reading North Woods after hearing Amelia talk about it too. Happy reading! 🙂 xx

Thank you so much for including me in this ❤ Thrilled to see Riambel and (particularly) Soldier Sailor on your TBR. Soldier Sailor was absolutely overlooked last year and deserves some justice 😅
Also I *love* Fleishman is in Trouble. The characters are unlikeable, but it is so smart and layered and has so much to say about who is telling stories and how it gets filtered through other people. And it absolutely skewers wealthy people problems. Just love love love it, and very excited for Brodesser-Akner’s new one in July.

I loved North Wood just finished it last week, it's a terrific novel. Year of wonders is really good too. Fleishman is an interesting book. I've added two Idol Burning and Chlorine both are available at my local lib. Thanks for sharing. I love a summary of other summaries, lol

I read Tell the Wolves I'm Home several years ago and just loved it. Seems like one you would like as well. Hijab Butch Blues made my personal list of favorite reads of 2023. I just finished North Woods and really liked it though I don't think it quite lived up to the hype for me. I gave it 4 stars so still a really good read.

The show for Fleishman is in Trouble is also really good! I had no interest in the book (similar to you I think) because I didn’t care about a sad divorced dad, but I heard good things about the show with Jesse Eisenberg and Claire Danes. It was so much more than I thought. So smart, so interesting and unexpected!

Totally agree with Bookish Sabrina (and just subcribed to her channel). When I finished Tell the Wolves I'm Home, it was 3am (couldn't put it down) and I was literally sobbing in bed! I LOVED it. Also Year of Wonders and People of the Book are two of my favourite Geraldine Brooks novels - these books made her an instant read author for me. I hope you enjoy these books as well!

I recently listened to North Woods on audio. I didn't think I would like it all that much, but it has really stuck with me. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, but I did really enjoy the book as a whole. Add a half star if you are familiar with Massachusetts and another half star if you like apples.

@@MercysBookishMusings Yes! It's a full cast recording, in that different people read different chapters. The book follows the history of a place, starting in the 1600's. So the early chapters, during the colonial era, are read with a British accent, but the telling gets more and more modern as the story progresses.

I keep a list of booktubers favourites that I already own to work through.
I just finished North Woods. I gave it 4.5* - I found one of the stories pretty boring, so couldn't give it 5*,but the concept was very cool and the unexpected genre added in, plus loved the ending.

Great idea for a video. I read Year of Wonders last year and loved it. The voice of the main character is beautifully done. I'd definitely be interested in vlogs of you reading these books. Since you like stories about sisters, have you read Independence by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni? Its about 3 Hindu sisters experiencing the Partition of India/Pakistan. Their relationships just felt so layered and complex. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. 21:03 I love Tell The Wolves I'm Home. 5 stars. A Marvelous Light is wonderful! I need to pick up book 2.

I just read North Woods and it was OK, but I wasn’t wild about the jarring style of the book’s jumping from story to story when following the history of the land/house featured and quite frankly do not understand all the hype surrounding this book. But each to their own, right?

I read Exalted earlier this month and thought it was very well done but also wacky and wild 😅 Things happen in that book that are unhinged! My guess is that it is more fun if you have a bit of basic knowledge of astrology as that does definitely weave in and out of the narrative quite a bit and adds another layer that is often quite funny

Your comment about the police made me wonder what I'd said, hah. I think your comment must be in relation to the blurb of Blue Hour? To be completely honest I don't agree with the prison system or the role of the police in society but that doesn't mean I think each individual police officer is a bad person.
