      Well Cameron did get most of his input from the 1953 movie a night to remember. Google it. Almost like he copied the original movie. The smoke stack fell on others in the 1953 and Cameron had it in his movie. Don’t get me wrong. I loved it but he did get a lot of ideas from the 1953 flick

    My neighbor/friend helped build the ship. He was a set builder in Hollywood at that time, and would disappear for months when working on a movie project. He got a call to help build the ship, and off he went. Seems like he was gone for a year or more. He has some cool stories about what it took to make the structure able to be sunk, and then raised back up again, and how they built a system to do the flooding below deck scenes (I think he said they had some seatrain containers sitting on a hill, filled them with water, and then piped that down to the ship, in order to get the correct flow and pressure. They had to do it a certain way, so that it matched up to flooding scenes that had been shot with a miniature). He was standing in some sort of crane basket with a smoke generator during a scene where Jack and Rose were together on the deck, and they wanted a smoke shadow to look like the smoke stacks. He also got to throw chunks of ice on the deck during the scene where the ship is scraping along the iceberg.

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@stockphotosteve1896 It's really fun to talk to him about it, and hear what it took to pull off the job. What's also interesting to me, is how top secret it was. One minute he was here, working his normal job, and the next minute, gone. It was only after the movie came out that he could talk about it. He has a really nice aerial photo of the set.
      After the movie, they dismantled the ship, and some of it was popping up for sale on ebay, like large pieces of the outer hull. I think those were plywood with a texture applied to look like the cast iron side panels/plates.

    Titanic was filmed at the perfect time in filmmaking history. A time when CGI and practical effects combined perfectly to create masterpieces such as this. Unfortunately we’ll never see another movie filmed to the sheer effort and level Titanic was. Titanic needed to be created and filmed the way it was to make it feel so real, like you’re actually there watching this disaster unfold. Studios today would never allow for such a budget for those practical effects and sets used. Titanic if done today would rely so heavily on CGI that I believe it would not connect and make you feel quite like the Titanic we have does.

    • @CitizenMio
      @CitizenMio ปีที่แล้ว +3

      True, it isn't even so much the budget though. CGI for a long time after was and sometimes still is, more expensive.
      The problem is when that money needs to be poured into the abyss. With practical effects that can be years in advance, that's risky. With CGI it can be happily done in post. The money men prefer the latter, as they obviously lack any real talent or insight themselves. So they plonk what they assume to be statistically relevant audiences in front of scenes that have already been shot and poll their responses. If the dumb cattle they select for that doesn't react favorably enough, they'll either urge the kind of changes that kill movies, or abandon ship and close the money tap.

Этот фильм мог создать только человек,который имеет талант и безумно любит свою работу. Помню,когда в нашей стране показывали этот фильм,многие после просмотра выходили со слезами на глазах. the fact they build the titanic (for the portion of the scene) shows a whole different scale how films are created back before there was greenscreen and cgi etc. Movieindustry of the golden era, because these movies were made with more love and passion than the mostly commercialized today. Profit was for sure also a big point even at this time. Rather is the Production and Costing of it meant. These movies were days before cost cutting was implemented in nearly every business segment known to us

      There was a lot of CGI and Green Screen used in this film. There wasn’t the budget to build full size sets for all of the ship’s interiors, so model sets were built and the actors were filmed against a green screen and then superimposed onto the model footage. The thing about ‘Titanic’, was that it utilised practically every known special effect to create the whole picture. Full size sets, scale models, practical in shot effects, CGI, motion capture, green screen chroma key, you name it.

    And when you look back on it, it's quite hilarious to see when you compare it to the movie! Amazingly done! This is a true masterpiece! James Cameron did the best he could with technology at the time! He also wanted to be as realistic he could, respecting the facts that surrounds the whole event! Even the listing of the ship was taken into consideration because of the fire in the coal bunker, titanic had about 900 tons of coal moved from the starboard coal bunkers to the port side bunkers, giving it a 2 degree list, and it is said that Cameron wanted this to be in the movie, it's not clear from the movie that the ship is listing, but it is. That's about the only fact you can't see in the movie, but it's there! Again, amazing movie, yes we all know Rose and Jack are fake, they were not actual passengers on Titanic, but he had to spice up the movie somehow!

    You mean to tell me, they built a life size replica for the film, I didn't know that

    • @snsdgivemetwice
      @snsdgivemetwice ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, James Cameron made a replica of the real TITANIC until everything on it was made as closely as possible. It's just that the size is slightly smaller than the size of the original TITANIC. The intact ship is used for the scene/set in the ship's room. Even the chimneys were emitting real smoke. James Cameron made a total of ±4 replicas of the TITANIC just for maximum results.
      👇
      1. Smaller miniature for scene split ship set.
      2. Whole boat from front to back + 4 chimneys, for indoor set.
      3. Replica of the back of the ship (only the top) for the set scene of Rose+Jack holding on to the railing as the ship sinks.
      4. The back of the ship and all its bodies for the split ship set (zoom version)

      I believe it wasn’t a full replica. I remember reading somewhere that this replica was 90% the size of the real titanic. Either way the replica on this set is incredible.

    • @JB-od1pi
      @JB-od1pi ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Noone_4334 The ship is about 100 feet smaller IIRC than the real thing, the scale is the same, is just that they collapsed some spots, leading to structural differences that are noticed by people who are somewhat familiar with the real ship, such as myself and may others. I believe this was done due to cost cutting (didn't really work out to well) and technical limitations with tilting sets.

    • @wishkid79
      @wishkid79 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well technically only the A deck exterior along with the boat and poop decks were built at large scale. The hull was only built to replicate the starboard side. The port side wasn’t built. So, it’s not exactly a life size replica, it’s a highly detailed large scale set. Much of what you see of the ship in wide shots, are scale models. Pretty big scale models, but it was more practical to shoot with models and CGI extensions than it was filming wide shots of the whole ship.

    There are so many great establishing shots, little "throwaways" that must have Cost a Fortune.
