I love pearls! I also have a set from my grandmother. In my late teens and early twenties I wore pearls everyday & was known them. (Shortly thereafter I graduated from nursing school, so wearing them daily wasn’t possible) Lately I have been going through my clothes and accessories & only having things I really love & that make a statement as to who I am. I’m very excited to add a new set of pearls & currently fretting over which set to buy first.

Thanks for this pearl video. Peal (and crystals) are the only jewelries I wear all the time. I take care of all my pearl necklaces and earrings with extra cares, same as you, so that they last long.

This is good to know about not spraying perfume (colognes) on them or use cleaners. I have some pearls that I keep in an interesting satin (?) lined pouch-like thing they came in. I think one of the reasons I don’t wear them is because I’m not sure of the clasps (which is kind of like the one on your grandmothers necklace). I should actually start wearing them. Thank you for this information.

So when I stumbled on to your channel I was glad that I am not alone! I have a question - could you talk about the size of pearls one should choose? What factors should go into making this decision - outfit/age/occasion? Thanks much!
I know this video is pretty old, so you probably know this already, but the knot is also there so that if your necklace breaks, you will only lose 1 pearl instead of the entire strand.

I love the pearls so much, I want to add another. The Mikimoto pearl necklace you held up, I have the bracelet. It is 25 years old. I received as a gift. About 10 years ago, the string broke. I had not kept up restringing. Luckily I got all the pearls in my my office that fell from the string and need to have it restrung. Do you know if a general jewelry store does that or does that require a special service through Mikamoto? To be honest, I love the rose gold ones I got from you. I have had to clean the silver clasp and it cleans well. Now, I need to get some rose gold earrings to match and maybe a white strand as well. P. S. I have your handwritten postcard you sent out in my bedroom on a board for positive thoughts and cards I get. I really enjoy your videos and love your style. Mine has been very similar all my life and probably I'll always be a classic style girly girl. LOL
I know Mikimoto recommends that you bring in the pearls for care/restringing every few years, so that would be the 'right' way to do it.However, Vancouver doesn't have a Mikimoto so I will probably just bring it to our local jeweller, Birks and have them do it, or do it myself if I have the patience for the knots. Love that you kept the Nouvelle Pearl card, that makes my day! :)
Hi, I know this thread is over a year old, but thought I would mention that Mikimoto used to rethread at no cost for clients who bought the item from them, though unsure if it is still free, I would not risk any other jeweller to rethread a MIkimoto piece, for they are among the most sort after & expsensive in the world.
I got 2 mikimoto pearls strands. I got a black peacock Tahitian pearl necklace 8-10mm and a strand of 10-12mm grey Tahitian pearls, bot mikimotos. They retailed between 28k and 32k , about 60k. I paid 7k for both. OMG the most beautiful. Both have 18k white gold clasp, eBay

How do Go about purchasing your jewelry?
My daughter-in-law just got some Akoya pearls but they have speckles in them. What are these speckles from?
Hmm where did you buy them from? Not all Akoya pearls are perfect spheres, but speckles in the luster should not occur. Have the pears been damaged by chemicals? Even perfume or detergents can damage pearls with repeated use.
@@ElleFlorence She just received them yesterday for her birthday & they were still in the shell when she received them. They came from an Etsy store.
Where do you go to get pearls restrung?
ask a jeweller they may help. not a crap plate gold place but a good place.. not a snooty place.
How long is strand you are wearing in this video?
It’s 16.5 inches for the short necklace and 7.5 for the bracelet so 24 inches total 💕
key is to also wait to put on your pearls until after you use hairspray.. also dont take pearls into any pools with chlorine as over time this will remove the layers of the laquer on the beads.. btw are you a Graduate Gemologist? just curious since I am ..:-)
