    Of course your performance is superlative, as always. So grateful to have discovered you during quarantime. Hadn't picked up my guitar for decades and never had the benefit of such an excellent instructor. You're so kind.

    The irony...I use the same guitar for my lessons and this is one of my favorite pieces. Thank you for this video. I echo Road Surfer's comment - thank you for your service to the classical guitar community. Although I have a classical guitar teacher, I consider you one of my teachers as well. Overall, thank you for your unselfishness. Take care.

    Thank you for this video demo and free music sheet. As you mentioned in "Score Comments: The use of the E in measure 19 and 20 is used as a pedal point but feel free to play an F sharp with a barre at the 2nd fret if you prefer." At time mark 0:37, I prefer the F#m7/F# chord going to the B7(9) at Bar 21, forming a smoothe iim7-V7 cadence resolution to the E major home key. Matter of preference I guess.

      Ya, I originally started the channel for my students so I try to keep the vibe of the lessons to a discussion as much as a tutorial so students can learn by watching all the videos and not just the specific pieces they are working on.

    Great lesson video (as always). I find these really useful as someone on a “self teaching” classical guitar journey!
    I noticed that you mentioned you don’t use the D# leading note in the bass voice in bar 14. The version I have been using (in the book “Complete Learn to Play Classical Guitar” by Jason Waldron) has this in the notation. Is there a “correct” version for this traditional piece, or is it common for different arrangements to feature in prep repertoire syllabi?
    I kind of like the D# as a leading note, it adds a nice harmonic “crunch” before the resolution passage in bars 15/16.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, there are a few different versions. There is no definitive edition so I say go for any changes you like.

  • @moonasha
    @moonasha ปีที่แล้ว

    I think barring 4 strings on bar 7 is a good compromise, makes it a lot easier to get over to the 1st string later, and it's easier on the fingers

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I agree but the following measure has a barre over six strings which can sometimes be a disruptive adjustment from a half barre. So I compromise and play the full barre on both so I can just slide it up. Either way can work but that is my reason for doing so.

    I just came across your video, I love your interpretation and the instructions on how to play it, moving to the next position are great. I have been using a free tab sheet but I wanted something more, Iv'e got your free music and will practice that with your video. Some big stretching, also my guitar action is questionable and makes some barring difficult, could be time for an upgrade. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Anything between 80-110 should be fine. But as always, play musically and don't worry about tempo too much.

    Do you use a rest stroke on the High E string throughout for the melody? Or do you use a
    Free Stroke?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think using a rest stroke on the melody is great way to practice but when it comes to creating a beautiful legato sound you'll likely want all free stroke.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's nice to have a variety of works from different time periods and contrast styles and techniques to show diversity in your playing. Maybe some Tarrega, Bach, and Dyens would be nice. So kind of combination. That said, just contact the teacher who teaches at the school you wish to study at. Most teachers would welcome giving advice to a possible future student.
