poetry set to music, I can't even express how much I miss Stuart. he saved me life, very directly, in 1984, with the Crossing and more so when he spoke 'to me' on Steeltown. I love Mark, Bruce and Tony for all the world and all they have made BC. They are brlliant. Yet, Stuart was the voice and the real writer and I always thought I would meet him someday. I have been stunned for years. I've love to meet the band and just chat i guess.
I met Stuart twice. Once at a radioshow in the Netherlands where we interviewed him for the Dutch fanclub. And later after a concert in Doncaster. He was very, very nice. I listen to BC almost every day. Have seen them tons of times in bigger and smaller venues. This is one of my favourites.
Loved this band from the early days - my children love them now. They play air guitars, and make me play the fiddle. Dec 16th 2019 - eighteen years of winter sky. Rest in peace.
They threw this one on the B side of Just A Shadow, most bands would never write a song as good as this ever, Stuart and Bruce just tossed this one out without trying.
Love this, did at the time and still do.Still love the band even without the big man.Just wish more people listened to the lyrics of all their songs because most had a story behind them, Steeltown being my favorite.
The beauty of music is that no matter what ethnic group or where it is played it can touch people worldwide. This song still stirs the soul as it did back in the day and I'm sure my sentiment is far reaching. Thank you to all musicians involved, you touch us with exquisite vibes.
One of their best and least known songs. Can't remember where, but I read that Stuart wrote this song about the results of nuclear war and the 20 years of winter sky refer to 20 years of radioactive fallout that blocks the sun and causes temperatures to plummet. Anyone know if this is true?
Westy Another great night I managed to make, awesome un-plugged night. Another chance to see one of the greatest bands live. Not many better. Time passes so quick. RIP Big Man!
You can't beat The Beatles on this classic song, but it comes close. Bobby Valentino is great on the violin and The Hossam Ramzy Percussion Section is a nice addition. Big Country is an amazing band that may not be forgotten.
Loved this song, should have been more than a 'B' side (do you still get B sides?). That's Bobby Valentino on the fiddle, the same bhoy who played the fiddle on The Bluebells - Young at Heart, and later sued them......... You'r sorely missed Stuart..
The stories of the world are sung In places that were never young I have counted every one All the clouds will come to you So the sun never comes through And we will hide From twenty years of winter sky The faces of the world are hung In places I was never born Some will smile while others moan All the clouds will come to you So the sun never comes through And we will hide From twenty years of winter sky Pictures of the world are shown In places I have never known Who will know who shaped the stone All the clouds will come to you So the sun never comes through And we will hide From twenty years of winter sky Still it turns and says to me In words that come uneasily Answers are not meant to be All the clouds will come to you So the sun never comes through And we will hide From twenty years of winter sky

I remember a DJ dave fanning played this in 84 and said this should have been released as a single.

Can't believe this song has a 'thumbs down' vote from someone. It's just fantastic.

wot a song
Who's the violinist?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The stories of the world are sung
In places that were never young
I have counted every one
All the clouds will come to you
So the sun never comes through
And we will hide
From twenty years of winter sky
The faces of the world are hung
In places I was never born
Some will smile while others moan
All the clouds will come to you
So the sun never comes through
And we will hide
From twenty years of winter sky
Pictures of the world are shown
In places I have never known
Who will know who shaped the stone
All the clouds will come to you
So the sun never comes through
And we will hide
From twenty years of winter sky
Still it turns and says to me
In words that come uneasily
Answers are not meant to be
All the clouds will come to you
So the sun never comes through
And we will hide
From twenty years of winter sky
I dont care for the "Rock Star-Stuart" You can see how the fame started to get to him starting in the early 90's.
