I appreciate these videos of discussing living your life for God first and others. I work at a lowly job position and still appreciate this talk. My teen sons need direction, and I am praying for God to save them and direct them.
You might consider your position 'lowly' but that's according to this world's standards. Jesus said the greatest in this life/world will be the least in the next, and the least in this life/world will be the greatest in the next. Each of us must choose between riches in this short painful life and riches in the next eternal one. You can't have both. Jesus said if you choose Him, this world will hate you. I choose to have the better eternal life, and worldly accomplishments in this life do not matter after you die. (BTW, they don't matter after you die if atheism is true, either.)
It's so nice to hear fresh wisdom from John- but also to have the input from everyone else here- with great qs and nice to have all the speakers well-filmed. Thank you :)
Facilitator ! this is the only word I would say and give as a comment on John Lennox ministry and talks. Great Job ! Thank you, and thank Lord for it and him ❤

Dear Dr. John Lennox, thank you for sharing a timely message for us as Christians the importance of understanding our work in learning righteousness, ethics and morality - these values are lessons we learn in our work that develop our character and thinking by reflecting God and His Kingdom.
Love John Lennox. I have listened to so many of his lectures and have a number of his books but I have to say that I disagree with one comment he made - "God loves us because of who we are." When we consider all the bible has to say about the destructive and defiling influence of sin upon humanity, and we then consider the infinite purity and holiness of God, we must accept the fact that we have lost all intrinsic worth before a holy God. There can only be one answer to the question 'why does God love us?' It is because of who He is not because of who we are. 'God is love.' The parable of the prodigal son is a wonderful illustration of this. If we say that the reason the son was forgiven includes the fact of who he was, the grounds of forgiveness then includes the son's inherent worth as well as the forgiving father. ALL credit should go to the Father. His forgiveness is beyond comprehension. It is other worldly. Grace, grace, grace.
Jesus' love for us through His supreme sacrifice gives us value. His precious life and blood are worth more than all of humanity combined, and when that majestic love and forgiveness is applied to us, it gives us value. God the Father loves us because we are His children, created in His image, with the potential to become members of His Everlasting Family in His Everlasting Kingdom to come.
Why now? Because of what John has recently read himself... New ideas that gave him the motivation to write it. 🤔 Maybe he's read Bernardo Kastrups philosophical books?
42:04 The Sabbath The insinuation posed hinges on the Sabbath's sacred character. But does sacredness equate to inactivity? Absolutely not! In Matthew 12, Christ concludes His argument that it is LAWFUL TO DO GOOD on Sabbath, while affirming its sacredness. When Jesus remarks on priests 'profaning' the Sabbath in Matthew 12:5, He paints a picture-not of irreverence-but of service to a higher cause. Look at it this way: a paramedic might 'profane' the silence of the night with the wail of an ambulance siren, yet we wouldn't brand them as guiltless noise-makers. Why? Because their purpose is necessary and good. Likewise, in Matthew 12:5, when Jesus speaks of priests 'profaning' the Sabbath, yet remaining guiltless, he uses a touch of divine irony to challenge the Pharisees' legalistic mindset. The work of priests on Sabbath - which included burning incense, changing showbread, offering sacrifices - might be viewed as 'profaning' from a rigid perspective, but Jesus refuted the flawed logic of the Pharisees legalistic presuppositions. The priests' 'work' is NECESSARILY performed in honor of God, embodying the essence of Sabbath - a day dedicated to divine worship. Comparing Sabbath 'work' to violations such as adultery, theft, or murder is like comparing a real apple to an iOS apple. The latter involve harm, deceit, and destructiveness - nothing of which you can accuse the dutiful priests. Christ's logic confuted the Pharisees' hypocritical logic. The Sabbath observance isn’t about 'not working' but 'working on' our relationship with the Creator by doing good on the Sabbath. -DAP
Dr. Lennox [at Track:4:00-5:08] comment regarding God calling people into business or academia [ for whatever reason] is sadly mistaken, because Jesus [God’s son] went into whatever space [e.g., business, academia, etc.] to call on Matthew/ Peter and other disciples due to their heart condition. In fact, to the contrary, Jesus told Peter [after the miracle of overloading the boat with a fish catch] that Peter will become a ‘fisher of men’ - from which Peter [who just happened to be in the fishing business, choose [at that moment] to leave the fishing business and became a dedicated follower of Jesus. Analogous but contrary to Peter is the account of the Rich Young ruler -who [like Peter who also may have been torn between having a commitment to a business vs. what it means to accept Jesus invitation to ‘Come be my follower’ - because you cannot serve two masters. Peter made the right decision and the Rich, Young, Ruler [both in the business space] made the wrong decision. There is no ecumenical consensus between the 1st Century Christianity and the Prosperity Gospel.
Working a job/running a business and serving Christ alone are not mutually exclusive as you seem to imply. John is not in any way referring to a prosperity gospel, not sure what you’re talking about there.
Aquila and Priscilla had their own tent making and tent mending business. This was also the apostle Paul’s trade, and while in Corinth, he worked for this couple.
I can listen and write down everything that is said here and as I speak to the Holy Spirit about each topic He knows that I know that sooner or later I will hear someone say something that is DARN RIGHT RIDICULOUS > 🤪 EXAMPLE: When any mature believer speaks of becoming weary while serving the LORD and others I know that he or she could NOT be serving in the strength that God provides IN ACCORDANCE TO 1 Peter 4:11. Yes he did love him, but hated the sin. Consider God's love and how he desires repentance in this verse: "God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
If you quote scriptures I will do the same: Numbers 15:32-36. You are setting a dangerous precedent by separating a sin from a sinner. What was your god thinking as he watched his 'agents' butchering heretics during the 17th century? Why don't we still do it today?@@paul.w.k.
The more I view of Lennox the more I disrespect him. I might forgive the many Christians who try to justify ( and fail )a belief in god from ignorance, but John Lennox is an intelligent man and should know better. We should seek truth. John uses his intelligence to distract from this pursuit. Shame on you mr Lennox. You would not tolerate this behaviour in your own area of maths specialism.
What an ignorant response. Dr. Lennox is, in fact, a mathematician, and a scientist as a result. He was also raised as a Christian, and he attempts very well to make the two compatible. But the point he makes in other lectures is that a nihilist accidental universe could not come into existence by chance, despite the arguments of Reese and Hawkings. Furthermore, his mathematical specialization leads only, he believes, to an intelligent creator. After that he adds his Christian faith. Again, what an ignorant response.
Your paragraph (fails) into itself. Disrespect, truth, intelligence, shame? Where do these virtues and quantities come from? Where do you get the respect and shame from in which to issue it forth? Without GOD, (without His Truth), none of what you position as yours would even be possible. You mention “we should seek truth”. Read the Holy Bible AND ask The Creator of truth to guide you. It is the only way! JESUS said “let those with ears hear”. Pray that He opens yours!

Yes, seek God's heart, his desire for building His family (kingdom) in whatever you desire to do, managing well the resources at hand ❤
Still have awesome and tremendous respect and spiritual enlightenment from our Dr. Lennox, just not on this point.

Even though i do not agree with John Lennox on many issues, i do enjoy listening to him speak as he has a very soothing relaxing voice!

Will this be in podcast format as well?
As of now this will only be available on TH-cam or our website (theocca.org). Thanks for the question! It's a good suggestion.
