  • Lake Naivasha: Walking Safari on Crescent Island
As part of our Kenya safari trip, we were able to visit Lake Naivasha. Our favorite part is the walking safari on Crescent Island as it's good to have a break from the long game drives. We were able to see Giraffes upclose, unfenced along with other wildlife. It's such a serene place and if we didn't have an itinerary to follow, we would have preferred to spend the day, spread out a blanket and enjoy a nice book! This is also apparently one of the the locations for the famous classic movie, Out of Africa! Definitely worth a visit!
    About Lake Naivasha
An ultimate tourist destination, Lake Naivasha is part of the great rift valley located northwest of Nakuru county, Kenya. It towers at an elevation of about 1890 meters, and is bordered by acacia woodlands, papyrus swamps, forest, and spectacular geological features which are reminiscent of the area’s volcanic past. Lake Naivasha is a RAMSAR site and there are over 450 distinct avian species, all of which depends on the lake for survival. The lake is also is a drinking hole for zebras, buffaloes, waterbucks, impalas, and other grazers. You can also spot a sizeable population of hippos cooling off in the freshwater during the day. Due to the occasional rising high waves of the lake, the Maasai people, who are occupants of this territory christened the Lake ‘Naiposha’ meaning ‘rough waters’.

Hello I am a writer working for a Korean SBS broadcasting station.
Our program is planning a broadcast with the theme of "Walking Safari on Crescent Island"
Can I use your youtube video as a broadcast material? We promise to use it after we indicate the source.

Can you recommend how to get to lake Naivasha from Nairobi and where to buy the boat trip? I want to combine the day with Hell’s Gate National park for cycling and hiking safari too. Did you go with an organized tour agency or self travel?

hello, good morning from Madrid, Spain. On August 8, we started trip to Kenya and I am watching different videos about the destinations we possibly travel. Among those videos I've seen yours and I see there are some planes with drone, can you take the drone to Kenya? I ask you because I am looking at information and there are places where they tell me I need a permit, others where they tell me that as the drone sees me on arrival in Nairobi that they remove it until the day I travel back to Madrid and others tell me that in the national parks it is forbidden. From your experience, what can you tell me? Thank you very much and make everything go well.

Hi! It is indeed forbidden :) We flew it not knowing it was not permitted... ooops! As we were also there for work though not taking videos for monetary gains so we kind of assumed we were allowed to but apparently not. That's why we don't really have a lot of them in the videos. So yes, you do need to get a permit if using it, especially inside the parks. And as for getting the drone to Nairobi, I can't remember being told it was not allowed otherwise we would have not taken it with us. But the rules "can vary" and if they actually find out about your drone and confiscate it, I don't think there's much you can do. My best advice is to coordinate with your travel operator and see what they recommend you do.
