You reacted to their House of the Rising Sun! Iconic group! Check lead singer Eric Burdon with War!!!!❤” Spill the Wine”. Bassist in grey became Jimi Hendrix’s manager! Yeah but Eric wasn’t acting too happy! That was some Hollywood flick with dancing beach bunnies. Better to check them out on Ed Sullivan! Eric came from a hard working blue collar family in northern England. He related to those blues songs because he lived it!
Turns out, they did a lot of covers too! They covered the Sam Cooke classic “Bring it on Home to Me” and Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. The latter went on to be one of their biggest hits.
Technically House of the Rising Sun is a cover. Or it is at the very least, not an original. I'm not sure what the name for a cover of a traditional folk song is lol
Both of my parents are Vietnam Veterans. Both spent time in country. Dad walked point and trained dogs for the army. Mom was a Lt. Colonel as a nurse in the Air Force. She ran nursinh units in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. She was a flight nurse and had over 75 jumps into remote areas to treat wounded. This song was huge for soldiers in Vietnam. It was played over and over by troops then. I can understand why. Neither one talks much at all about that time in their lives. God Bless 🥰
I had an older brother and two older cousins who allowed themselves to be drafted. They were not politically aware. Then war criminal Nixon wanted to draft me. I knew the politics and that I was physically disqualified though they called me for two physicals. I used the opportunities to talk to the poor guys with me on the bus about their rights even if they were deemed apt. I had confrontations with the staff at the induction center. They even had me go to a psychologist because I apparently was too normal.
About the bass player... "Bryan James "Chas" Chandler (18 December 1938 - 17 July 1996)[1] was an English musician, record producer and manager, best known as the original bassist in The Animals, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He also managed the band Slade, and Jimi Hendrix, about whom he was regularly interviewed until his death in 1996."
Springsteen happily admits his whole career is based off this track - it's in every song he's ever written (the video where he's talking about it is on TH-cam) Yet another great British band!!
The Animals were considered the rough side of the 60s and had a lot of great hits. The dance shows back then mostly had them lip syncing, this was probably a West Coast show with the beach and surfboards. 👍👍👍
Try It's My Life by The Animals. The chorus has more of an up tempo FEEL to it. Although it still falls into the same category of the other two. Also check out Don't Be Misunderstood by them as well, another just pure great vocal performance.
I graduated from H.S. in 1969 and we pick this for our graduation theme, which got rejected by the admin. 'Things were weird back then, so we 'couldn't wait to get out of that place'. Great reaction dudes.
The Animals were rock blues and they are the rougher side of rock. Spill that Wine is a must do for you all. Eric Burden has one of the greatest rock/blues voices.
A few obscure songs y'all need to hear: HARD TIMES by Baby Huey, VEHICLE by The Ides Of March, FINGERPRINT FILE by The Rolling Stones, and LIKE SUICIDE by Soundgarden. That last one is a long shot, I admit, but the late great Chris Cornell needs some love.
Gotta try Dirty Water, another song in the same vein. A lesser known, fantastic song of theirs that encapsulates the feeling of the 60s was Down in Monterey, one of my favorites.
This video is actually a clip or scene from the movie It's A Bikini World (1967). Part of that beach party genre of films that feature cameos of different bands playing and I guess the Animals got to be one the bands. They don't look too thrilled to be into it. It's not a live performance as you can tell they are obviously lip synching to the studio version of the song. The stage they are on is pretty far out though man!
Excellent job on your videos .. i am a big fan of your channel .. keep doing these great reaction videos . ( I grew up during the time of this amazing music).👏
Hey guys, really enjoying your posts up here in Kingston Ontario. Would love to hear your take on an iconic Canadian band, The Tragically Hip! Try out their performance off 'New Orleans Is Sinking'!
I just left a comment on your reaction to House of the Rising Sun where I suggested you review this song. You're right about Eric Burdon's facial expression. He NEVER smiles!!! Check out Boom Boom (John Lee Hooker), Don't Let Me be Misunderstood and I'm Crying. Back to Burdon's serious look, not too many southern black blues singers smiled while singing the Blues
Speaking of 60s music, you should also listen to The Box Tops the letter & Cry like a baby. You should also listen to Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. Sherry, Walk like a man,Big girls don't cry etc, also anything by Tommy James & the shondells
The Animals & the Stones introduced American blues to my generation. A pretty good semi "up" tune by them Is their version of Sam Cook's "Bring it on Home to Me", still begging a chick for attention though. (Sam's version is great too with back up by the underrated great Lou Rawls) "It's My Life" was one of their other British Invasion hits with a "sing along" chorus just like "...Out of This Place".
Here's actually a decent live performance of "Bring It..." (BTW the bass player "discovered" Jimi Hendrix, quit the Animals & managed him to stardom.) th-cam.com/video/LXzdVEZ4WCc/w-d-xo.html
Well, it's kind of hard to find an upbeat...positive blues song by The Animals. lol I mean they were one of the original pioneers of bringing the blues genre to a wider audience of people during the early 60's and 70's. I mean listen to the titles of their songs and you'll shortly discover they are not "happy" topics such as: "House of the Rising Sun", "We gotta Get Out Of This Place", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying" get the drift. lol 😏 They were known for their gritty, bluesy sound. The band balanced tough, rock-edge pop singles against rhythm and blues-oriented albums which they were quite successful at doing. Here's another song by them, if interested. (another not so happy topic) 😆"The Animals - Tobacco Road (1967)" (channel: Beat-Club) --The Animals cover of this song "Tobacco Road" was a Trans-Atlantic pop hit in 1964 reaching number 6 on the UK charts and number 14 on the US singles charts. As always, I enjoyed rocking with you fellas' thanks so much for sharing. We appreciate you.
I think it's funny that you ask if they have love songs or upbeat songs. They certainly have love songs but they clearly represent dysfunctional relationships. Some of them have a somewhat predatory edge to them. It's a little bit like Ike and Tina in a weird way. "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" could be interpreted as an apology for domestic violence. They have another one "Inside looking out" about a guy being stuck in prison and missing his girl, but his voice sounds like a manic caged animal with sexual tension being on the verge of violence towards anyone that keeps him from her. The stuff is dark and somewhat scary even, but damn it's good. I think these guys are too honest, too soulful, and too dysfunctional for "upbeat" songs. More in the hippy era they had a song "Monterey" about the music festival which was pretty psychedelic fun and funky. Eric Burdon was also a founding member of WAR and they had a bunch of upbeat stuff.
This was a film cameo, Note it is not the same organist from "House of the Rising Sun," Try "i'm In Love Again" or "Boob Boom"(John Lee Hooker cover) ."
It's time to check out more Australian acts, apart from AC/DC, brothers. Two of our Aussie top performers together are John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes singing, 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby', at the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards concert. You will be blown away!!!
They are all working class boys from struggle street, Glasgow. Hard, hard, hard. Those boys old before their time, and wise to the bitterness and cold indifference of the world to the poor. Have you heard working class bands singing about rainbows and unicorns and flowers? The thing about struggle and hard times is you want someone to acknowledge your struggle and acknowledge that you have value, and songs like this say to the other forgotten devalued, despised, working class kids of the dark, damp, dirty inner cities 'we see you and we with you.' It's like James Brown saying to Maceo ''Maceo, are you someone?'' and him saying ''I sure am!'' ''Fred, Fred! Are you someone?'' ''You bet I am someone.''

Eric Burdon did a song with the band War, "Spill The Wine". War is also a great band to react to. It was epic! Thanks for this reaction, guys! ✌💙✌
Was about to say the same thing - got to be the original vid from 1970 tho (rather than just some stupid powerpoint of the lyrics) 🏆
This song was extremely popular with the troops in Vietnam, for obvious reasons.
Yes this was are Anthem. Vietnam Vet 68-69
You reacted to their House of the Rising Sun! Iconic group! Check lead singer Eric Burdon with War!!!!❤” Spill the Wine”.

This, yes! Spill the wine.. just damn
"Spirit" is my personal favorite but it's hard not to love them all!
This band of Animals is amazing
You'd never imagine that incredible voice could come from a young man Vocal Masterpiece
Spill the Wine is one of my favorites! Watch the live performance of “Spirit”. Amazing❤️
The guy playing base, invited Jimmy Hendrix to the UK became his manager and the rest is history.
Turns out, they did a lot of covers too! They covered the Sam Cooke classic “Bring it on Home to Me” and Nina Simone’s “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. The latter went on to be one of their biggest hits.
The animals cover of “bring it on home to me”, is my favorite of that song.😊
Yes, I love Eric Burdon's cover of 'Hold On I'm Coming' is brilliant! check it out :)
Technically House of the Rising Sun is a cover. Or it is at the very least, not an original. I'm not sure what the name for a cover of a traditional folk song is lol
Inside Looking Out, When I Was Young, Don’t Bring Me Down are all terrific!
another war time song they had was 'Sky Pilot' tis a great song
Both of my parents are Vietnam Veterans. Both spent time in country. Dad walked point and trained dogs for the army. Mom was a Lt. Colonel as a nurse in the Air Force. Much respect.
Wow. That is heavy. I hope that you had a good childhood. I don't know how one recovers from all of that. ❤️✌️

Great song/reaction guys. Another vote here for "Spill the Wine" from Eric Burdon with the group War please.

Please listen to “Don’t let me be misunderstood” ❤
I think of this song every time I get so tired of all the bad things that go so awry in my life. I just feel it! Thank you! Keep on keepin' on🙂✌️
The clip is from a movie, but they were performing in an actual club here in LA back then, called the Haunted House. That would've been boss to go to
That stage is outrageous!
I thought so! It’s slightly different than the radio version.
This was our 1970 class song of the graduation Valley,Al. Thanks for the memories.
I graduated from H.S. in 1969 and we pick this for our graduation theme, which got rejected by the admin. 'Things were weird back then, so we 'couldn't wait to get out of that place'. Great reaction dudes.
"Don't bring me down." Written by Carole King & Jerry Goff. Great Animals song.
A very subdued mime act in front of TV cameras for a show/film. Best to see them live on stage at a rock concert. I love 'Spill The Wine' .
Weird to see them in a beach party movie. Burdon’s voice is such an authentic Blues/Rock voice , but you know young men have to get paid.
Just 1 of the greatest things to come out of my city. ✌️ ❤️ 🇬🇧
I'd love to hear your reaction to their "Sky Pilot".
I graduated from an all girls Catholic high school. This was our class song in our Senior year.
Class of ‘67!!!
Notice the Rickenbacker guitar. A staple during the British invasion and still widely used.
Great song. One of my favorites from the Animals. Cheesy video.
I've been listening to the Animals since the 60's and I just realized that I've never seen them before tonight! 😮
This song was sung, by the audience, at the end of every USO show I went to when I was in Vietnam (1967-1968 USMC).
The Animals were rock blues and they are the rougher side of rock. Spill that Wine is a must do for you all. Eric Burden has one of the greatest rock/blues voices.
Great that you finally discovered this awesome song. Hard to believe that you just did but better late than never.
Thank you for pointing out the wildlife in Vietnam that is dangerous.

WHEN I SAID CHECK OUT " MYSTIC EYES " IT WAS BY A BAND KNOWN AS " THEM " WITH VAN MORRISON .
THE BEST BLUES AND HARMONICA SONG EVER !!!
The Animals' cover of Roberta is upbeat!
This is from a movie. They often put a music act in some beach movie.
The most popular song for us while we were in country/
Misunderstood….A Must.
I MIGHT ADD THE ANIMALS FIRST HIT IN AMERICA WAS " I'M CRYING " ANOTHER GREAT SONG THAT HELPED LAUNCH THEIR CAREER
The Animals were from Wales where people worked in the coal mines.

I'm adding my vote to the many requests to do a reaction to the collaboration between Eric Burdon and War on Spill the Wine! It's the 60s Baby!
Love your reactions. Please keep it up.
Have any of you listed to Grateful Dead before? ‘Ripple’ is a good track if you’re just dipping your toes in.
The only upbeat song I can think of was "Baby Let Me Take You Home" which was their first UK single.
Fun Factoid: The Animals bass player, Chad Chandler, discovered, promoted and managed Jimi Hendrix.
Eric's voice was at least twice as old as the rest of him. : )
This was way before spring breaks.
Timeless the Middle East too!
The bass player is the guy that convinced Hendrix to go to London and found the guys that became The Experience.

CHECK OUT VAN MORRISON " MYSTIC EYES " GREATEST HARMONICA BLUES AND VOCALS EVER " SAME TIME AS THE ANIMALS !!!
They weren't my favorite group but he can sing
My older brother’s fun, not so much here!
This was a film cameo, Note it is not the same organist from "House of the Rising Sun," Try "i'm In Love Again" or "Boob Boom"(John Lee Hooker cover)
."
Listen to 'I'm crying--Bring it on home to me-Squeeze her- tease her-they have a lot of songs
You got it right about the video. Generally, videos from the 60s suck. Better to stick to the recorded versions, that is where the brilliance rests.
Typical of many singles of the period. Same verse repeated twice. Nice hooks, it was a clear winner for the times.
Check out It's my Life, great time
It's time to check out more Australian acts, apart from AC/DC, brothers. Two of our Aussie top performers together are John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes singing, 'When Something Is Wrong With My Baby', at the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards concert. You will be blown away!!!

Theyre all english from Newcastle
Geordies from Newcastle from mining communities.
How to Stuff a Wild Bikini. Very lackluster lipsynching. Wearing is iconc red shirt, though.
Live version is superior to this
Bad recording of a great song.
