I mentioned it in the Discord, but worth pinning here: with the eye tracking working, you can get away with setting the Inner and Middle rings *much* smaller in the Open XR Toolkit Foveated Rendering settings. I set my Inner Ring set to 33% and middle at 66% with 1x, 1/2x and 1/4x resolution. Probably still some room for some further improvements, but I see 5-6FPS more compared to the way I had things set up for my Valve Index.
Thanks Steve good update many thanks. As a 3090 owner myself i'm continually unimpressed that even with such horsepower VR is still so painfully low in FPS in MSFS and DCS. I'd like to see how this would pan out in DCS as it's one of the main reasons why i bought the G2 over the aero as the shear cost of the headset could not be justified against the current performance levels even with my "NASA" level PC. Sure we can get decent FPS in the 60/90's if we turn down the settings but it's just counterproductive. Hopefully we can get to a point where either the graphics engine is optimized enough or the GPU's powerful enough to run it how it really should be. I think the GPU chips are making headway but VR optimization in games/sims seems to still be lagging behind. Pete
I feel you, it seems like we never seem to have the hardware to drive these VR headsets! I actually envy the sim racer crowd as those games seem way more optimised than flight sims, keep in mind though what we are trying to achieve is 100 times more complex than even running Half Life Alyx on ultra. Yes this would be super helpful! Would the same settings apply today? I just got my Aero and I have choppy movement when looking around the cockpit in MSFS 2020. The outside world is smooth at the same time however. Running a 4090 and 13900KS but this is my first HMD so I’m a long time simmer but a VR newbie. Thank you!
Sooooo, I received my Aero last month.....tried it with my RTX2060....didn't really cut the mustard.....clunky clunky bad......bit another bullet and bought a 3090, one of the very few in stock....at inflated price Grrrr.....had some faff getting it running properly......now running good, followed your settings....been flying around Uluru tonight in a 172......BRILLIANT.

Hi please help if you can. i got the Aero and am struggling to get it not to constantly judder, especially in high demand areas. used all your settings and tried others. I have 4090 with 13900ks and 64gb ram. system should be well capable. Any ideas? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mostly over less demanding areas I get high FPS with intermitant juddering like it tanks to maybe 5fps for a few seconds and then back to maybe 50fps.. then in airports or cities it does this a lot more frequently. its either very high or right down to 5fps and thats what it seems how its juddering. almost like the headset is shaking. the image does that when I move my head from side to side or up and down.
Steve, I used your affiliate link and bought a Varjo Aero. It arrived this week and I'm having a bit of a problem. When I try to start IL2 sim it appears in the virtual desktop. How do I get it to appear in the headset?
Are you able to get by with 1 base station or using 2? Can they be set up on the top of the computer desk or do they need to be above head level? Thanks for any info im about to buy the Varjo. Reading too many things about the Pimax Crystal that kind of scare me off, even tho it does not need base stations and has audio.

Hi , great video I have the Varjo Aero and Valve index base stations , my headset picks up the bases but then keeps disconnecting from the bases, have you had this issue before ? I can’t seem to set this up properly Pc and specs are great , headset works but then if I move slightly the base station icon is not lit up and I lose tracking Any suggestions would be grateful
Thanks for the video, from what I’m seeing on the Varjo Aero discord there is a HUGE amount on users that are have having issues with DISTORTION so if you have a fixed or a work around it would be greatly appreciated by the Aero community. Awesome video by the way and thanks for all you do!!!!
@@Tyke18 Agree. I can see it if I look for it but it's at the edge of vision where my main interest does not lie. If I really need to look and have full clarity at that point, I can *also* turn my head a bit :)
That all started from a bunch of g2 and Pimax 8KX loyalists trying to make themselves not regret their life choices. There are many more sources of truth (from people who have actually USED the headset) that make it clear that, while you can see it if you hunt for it, distortion is not an issue. Moral of the story: Jealousy breeds haters.
My Aero should be here tomorrow, according to Fed-Ex. Question: Do you even need to run SteamVR with the Aero or does the Varjo software start the base stations? If you do need to run SteamVR, what settings do you have in that? Thanks Steve
Excellent! Thanks for doing this Steve. Unfortunately my Aero has a dead pixel and I'm currently awaiting Varjo sorting out a replacement which is a total bummer. When I see videos like this that make me want to get some flying done with it, it's very frustrating. But at least I have kept my Reverb G2 to keep me going. Looking forward to seeing you do a video for DCS and hopefully by then I will have my replacement headset by then. 🤞😖
ahh man I've been hearing this a lot, my theory is they're getting bashed around during shipment. Fingers crossed it won't be long until you are back up flying buddy.
@@VRFlightSimGuy QC issue at factory, they went through a batch that has the issues and were able to narrow it down. Anyone with a bad one will be expedited a new HMD. US shipments got delayed because of the QC issue.
You should do a video review on all of the off ear universal VR audio headphones available for headsets that don’t come with built in sound. They are like the valve index headphones that just attach to the strap. Looking for the best headphones for my upcoming Aero.
Can you make one for dcs please. I cant get it smooth. The fps is bouncing around. 4 fps to 30... and lower settings then my old oculus. That was a steady 35 +
I have a 3090 with a AMD 5950X and I am still getting stuttering when flying low or taxiing unless I look at a 45 degree angle or more. I also find the G2 is more comfortable, maybe a headset adjustment video would be a good idea.
I don't own the Varjo, but I don't really care. This was still a top notch video, my friend. I plan to own one by 2050 tho. I'll give you my impressions then.

Great guide for settings with the new nvidia driver, I would love the Aero but my RTX 2070 would struggle, I currently use an Oculus Rift S with FS2020 with the 457 driver, so was wondering if you could do an updated test with the new 511 driver for rift owners as well? Also what is your take on debloating the nvidia driver to remove latency and lag and features which you dont currently use?
Running a stripped out driver 511.23 is actually smoother than 457.30 on my system, R5 3600, 16Gb Ram, NVMe 1Tb, RTX 2070, Oculus Rift S using the Kodiak 100 as test case. I also ran a test with the Twin Otter as is extremely low impact on VR which feels buttery smooth.

@@sascenturion I fistly use "DDU" to remove all the drivers including geforce experience from the computer, then download "nvcleaninstall" and run that, then select "install best driver for my hardware" nVidia 511.23 works very well, then you will see some options to remove bloat from the driver package, I just select the first 3 options. and click next, it will download and remove all the bloat for you and then a few options before installing the driver, disable telemetry and perform clean install, then either click install to install now or build the driver package to save for later if needed.
i have 2x steam base station 2.0 but was only able to connect 1, steam asks for bluetooth but it says bluetooth not available,. my mother board has bluetooth working

I honestly don't see how you get such nice performance. I have a slightly more powerful system and an older VR headset with lower resolution. Yet I can only dream to get such good performance and great visuals. Most settings on high some on ultra. Performance is ok, but I expected more from such a beefy upgrade. HMD is valve index.

My pleasure and thanks for your support. The Aero is the coolest VR headset I've ever worn, simply because it has active cooling and for me at least, it makes a big difference.

My Aero arrived today.. Running a 12900k and 3080TI using all of your settings... I do not have an issue with NIS scaler seems to work ok.

"HUGE" is an exaggeration lol! yes most users notice edge distorsion, but for many, i'd say the majority going by what ive read, its not an "issue".

No need for Steam VR when using Microsoft Flight Simulator. Set Open XR active

The settings I use in my TH-cam guides are all I do. I don't really have any other secret settings. Hope you get to the bottom of your fps issues.
