Devin is right. Herman is doing wonders for the community. I always liked him from the Guitar Hero days but dude, he is so awesome. He deserves all the sucess.
Saw the Sex and Religion tour too. I was 23 When Devin cut heads with Steve about 5 feet in front of me, I knew .... everyone knew...that Devin was going to do great things. But I don't think anyone would have predicted just how badass he has become
Singularity on Empath is my overall favorite song from Devin. 22 mins of gloriousness. Fly is probably my second favorite. Most of my favorites from him are his more toned down works. He just hits the emotions in a way other musicians haven't done to me before. Of course SYL was amazing. I guess it's just easier to say that pretty much everything he's done is great.
I agree. I absolutely love a lot of Devin’s heavy work (the ending riff to “More!” is so f’in’ brutal), but once I heard Ghost, Casualties of Cool, Empath… I love how soft and heartfelt Devin can be. Ghost especially holds a special place in my heart. It’s one of those records I always listen to from start to finish because it’s so magical and comforting.
I was gutted that I missed this livestream, but these highlights were wonderful! I thought I'd never see how their interaction went down. I'm glad it was fun for both guys, and for anyone watching! Thank you, Herman, for making Dev feel at ease 😁 And yes, Herman is amazing for doing what he's been doing for Jason. Such a true gesture of gratitude and selflessness!
One of the cleanest guitar players that often times gets overlooked is Eric Johnson. The man is just so smooth.. And has some super creative melodic riffs. He can't be excluded from the conversation either.
@Keith quesenberry Your ignorant comments don't legitimize you as anything but a prick; which has nothing to do with music, nor with playing a musical instrument. You sound like the type of person that *begs* people to let you be in their band, or tries showing up at random high school "talent shows" (despite you being in your early 30s) just so you can show off your "guitar mastery" in hopes that you'll actually win, or that you'll get some "validity" (aka "Street Cred".) Oh, before I forget - - Has your album "Shredding Balls: Live @ Some Random Guitar Center" gone multi-platinum yet, or are you still trying to record it without being caught?
If you ever find the time or interest, I highly recommend it. I had a $15 acoustic guitar from a thrift store laying around, and picked it up one day out of boredom. 4 years and 6 guitars later, it's my main hobby
@@shannonmitchell8515 how would you recommend I start? I have two guitars from friends that are basically on display because I can't seem to find something to motivate me to get past the "i have no idea what i'm doing" phase lol.
@@White2098 If there are any songs you really like and think would be cool to learn, start there. I started by learning simple stuff like Green Day and Nirvana, which kept me motivated. this is such a weird cross over for me. i have been a huge dragon force fan since i was 14. recently discovered devin 2 years ago and fell in love. what ever led to you 2 legends meeting, thank you
I love Devin. The guy is just a blessing. Also Canadian. Again thank you for sharing and having unbelievable musicians on for a great cause. I hope whoever buys the guitars give them back too Jason. Great idea 👌

Go listen to 'Wrong Side' by Strapping Young Lad. Devin is hitting massive sweeps all while singing during the chorus. Back when he was in Steve Vai band he used to play along with Steve quite easily as well. Low key Dev is a monster guitarist.
Two metal heroes right there! I never could have imagined I'd see them jammin' together (even if it's just over the internet) ! And even if Devin has said in the past, he's not really into the super fast techy "show-off" style, or "wanking" for lack of a better word. (his magic is more in the slower, heavier, emotional type of riffs/melodies) .He does sometimes indulge in it, and I can see here two very different types of musicians getting along just fine
Watching this has me reeeeally wanting to go get my guitar and play! I need a new cable and probably could use some new strings, but this has really put me in the mood! I'm not a great guitarist by any measure, but I do love playing. I just...haven't for a while.
I always like a good hook and feeling Something memorable David Gilmore wasn’t the fastest but he had so much emotion and feeling in his playing for example. Praying 🙏🏻 for Jason. I have old guitar magazines with him from the 80s still

100%
Devin just comes across as a very cool dude. So modest and honest. A real breath of fresh air. And he can PLAY.
Met him many times too, he's an amazing guy!.
Devin is the coolest man to ever exist
The science is sound!
I can't argue. 🤷♂️
So cool that he needs to wear mitts.
God damn right
Probably two of the coolest guitarists and guys in the world.
Devin is a legend ...very clever guy.
Devin's voice is other worldly.
Playing in Open C changed how I play guitar entirely and made me a better guitarist because of it. Highly worth it!
i play in open b because of Devin. game changer for me, I feel more creative. how about you
Open b in 7 string is wild!
Saw the Sex and Religion tour too.

Holy crap Devin Townsend!
I've heard Devy in a few interviews saying he doesn't feel the need to shred anymore but seeing him bust out the chops is so cool. Great video!

And Shawn Lane the best to ever do it.
One of the best gigs i've ever been to was Devin and his band in a small tent at a festival. Amazing.
Again. A video to smile about. My attention span stretches for videos like this.
It still blows my mind how Devin can play something so simple yet make it sound so insane. He's such a good songwriter/composer.
Humbleness in greatness...almost like a little self deprecation, is an extremely endearing quality...really enjoyed this.
dang, Devin is orgasmic in his licks. Holy crap what a guitarist. Thanks for your hard work, Herman and Devin.
Devin is a underrated solo guitarist. And its mostly by him self.
@Keith quesenberry dereck trucks plays in open tuning and he is the greatest slide player alive

Whoah Devin Townsend. 1 of the best voice in metal. Multi instrumentalist. Such a genius.
I'm so glad to see you finally got Devin on the stream. I love both of your music! Keep up this concept Herman!
Devin has a wall of sound to him and that is why i love him.
Fantastic chat. I agree with having to many options can be a creative distraction.
This is awesome! Devin is so good and completely under rated
God, everytime I see an interview or documentary with Devin I just wanna hug the dude, he's so damn sweet, kind and humble!
Thx, Herman and Devin!

Two of the most humble individuals on the planet!

Devon Townsend. My favorite Canadian. Bang on with rule numero uno for contemporary everything (especially guitar sounds): Can you make a decision!

Very nice. Devin is really interesting to listen to. Love his playing too.

It's very cool since Devin always plays in open tunings, so their leads contrast each other in a really neat way. They're different but equally cool.
