Danke fuer diese herrliche Musik. Damit bin ich aufgewachsen. Zum Sonntagsfruehstueck etwa, beim Kaffeetrinken. Wir hatten kein Fernsehen, aber 10 Schallplatten von Maurice Andre. Durch ihn habe ich auch die Suesse und Weichheit einer Trompete kennengelernt, natürlich neben ihrer strahlenden Kraft. Ich bin meinen Eltern sehr dankbar, dass sie mich an solch gute Musik herangeführt haben.

Il y avait dans le timbre de Maurice André une couleur particulière, brillante et allègre , qui en fit le trompettiste le plus renommé de sa génération. Il fit aimer la musique à de nombreux "profanes " et la porta vers des non-initiés, dans les entreprises industrielles notamment touchant un public ouvrier... le contraire de l'entre-soi bourgeois élitiste. Merci à André pour cette générosité et pour son talent.
Maurice André était un fils d'ouvrier et lui même a démarré son existence en tant que mineur à sauf erreur à Alès. Il a su renvoyer l'ascenseur.
I discovered Monsignor Andre when I was 16. Am 73 now. Never have I heard such brilliance from anyone else. I shiver when I hear this.

Quand on sait tout le travail qu'il faut pour 1. sortir un son... 2. Lire une partition... 3. Interpréter un titre lambda.... 4. Etre juste.... 5. Etre technique..... 6. Jouer sans aucune faute une partirtion difficile.... 7. Faire ça à la perfection. Cet homme a été un homme exceptionnel. A tel point que son instrument s'est prosterné devant lui, par respect.........
Je suis venu l'écouter, et le voir, à Bergerac vers 1985, je l'ai redécouvert il y a 15 ans, et je suis vraiment un fan absolu, quelle majesté, quelle classe et quel style, cette énergie, cet allant, ce brio....

There are few musicians/instrumentalists that have dominated their instrument to the level of unsurpassed excellence as in the case of Maurice Andre. In every aspect; sound, technique and interpretation, few have reached this musical summit…he is the master!!
I totally agree. As a young trumpeter, I was in awe of his skills, and I was fortunate to hear him in concert at the Kennedy Center in the early 70’s. The concert felt like a trip to Heaven!

Das ist Musik vom Feinsten. Sie beruhigt, inspiriert und tut gut. Maurice Andre gehört für mich zu den ganz großen Trompetern. Auch die Vögel im Garten mögen diese Musik. Sie kommen angeflogen und ich habe den Eindruck, sie hören zu.
I consider Maurice Andre to be the BEST trumpet player -- both in style and technical prowess. I saw him in concert in Philadelphia, Pa, USA in 1968 at the Academy of Music. I was spellbound throughout the entire concert. All of the major trumpet players -- teachers and students -- attended the concert including all of the members of the trumpet section from the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Maurice was the BEST OF THE BEST -- no one could play with such little effort in such a commanding way. RIP for such a great performer. We are blessed by having so many recordings. He continues to inspire to this day.

You need to take the cotton our of you ear and learn how to listen to real music and appreciate the probably greatest trompettist of this century as well as what real music is all about and quit listening to the garbage played by Maynard Furguson

"Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" höre ich in dieser Aufnahme mit den Beiden besonders gern. Das Adventlied beginnt kurz nach 25 Minuten. Hedwig Bilgram und Maurice Andre sind großartig.

Five years after this was posted, 60 thumbs downs. That means one per month. Once a month, some tone- deaf moron who never even held a trumpet comes in here to thumbs down this inimmitable demonstration of trumpeting.
God sent us one, and only one, Maurice André just so that we would always know what perfection on the trumpet sounds like, and always--no matter how good you are--know you need more work, more practice, and have something to strive for.

Tuve la infinita suerte de ver un único concierto que dió Maurice André en Córdoba, Argentina, pero desgraciadamente, no recuerdo la fecha. Inclusive llevé a mi padre que habla francés para charlar con él luego de la actuación, pero ENORME fue mi sorpresa pues él se expresaba en un EXCELENTE español. No me animé a preguntarle si había aprendido de niño o si había concurrido a una Universidad para aprender a hablar correctamente y sin acento nuestro difícil idioma. ¡¡ Que recuerdo imborrable !!
Hola Eduardo. Me encano de saber que M.Andre ablaba castellano! Mi professor de trompeta en Francia fue un grand amigo de el, y jo lo conocí en París alrededor de 1982. Ahora mi esposa es argentina, así que el español tiene un lugar especial para mí!

Tube la inmensa suerte de escuchar en vivo y en directo al gran Maurice André cuando el Teatro Real de Madrid fue dedicado a sala de conciertos, en la que actuaban los fines de semana, y cuando fuera preciso, las orquesta Nacional de España y la de la Radio-Televisión Española, fundada--por encargo, por supuesto-- por el gran Igor Markevich, al que parece se ha olvidado en la actualidad; será que no se le menciona no vaya a ser que se descubra que en tiempos de Franco podíamos gozar de unas tempoaradas de conciertos y recitales con los más grandes de la época, incluído Herbert von Karajan o Sergio Celebidache, Yehudi Menuhim, Arturo Rubinstein, al que también tube la grandísima suerte de oir y ver, como a Menuhim, en ese magnífico teatro de ópera entonces, como digo, auditorio. Costaban las entradas del "gallinero" 25 pesetas. Pero claro los que se dedicaban a rumiar sus envidias y sórdidos rencores, de aquello, como de las excelentes exposiciones de arte plásticas y demás "eventos" culturales no sabían nada, ni les interesaban ni preocupaban.

This is a great recording. Maurice André is always unbelivable to hear, really magnificent. It is a pity that the organ used doesn't really suit Vivaldi style. Despite that, a wonderful performance.
Maybe the organist has a good technique but, she is so mechanic... and I can't imagine Vivaldi being mechanic.
