  • Genomic epidemiology identifies emergence and rapid transmission of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7 in the United States
    California, 7 February
    www.medrxiv.or...
B.1.1.7 variant of SARS-CoV-2, has gained a strong foothold across the world
Detection of the variant increased at a logistic rate similar to those observed elsewhere
Doubling rate of a little over a week
    Increased transmission rate of 35-45%
    Several independent introductions
    From late November 2020
    Onward community transmission, 40 states
U.S. is on a similar trajectory as other countries where B.1.1.7 rapidly became the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant
Requiring immediate and decisive action to minimize COVID-19 morbidity and mortality

    One million doses arrived
    Minimal protection against SA variant
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, rollout paused
    Variant became dominant in November
No significant protection against illness, but all the cases of disease were mild or moderate
Vaccinated people will probably still allow ongoing transmission
As has been recently reported in those with prior infection
    The study

You will always be able to find (sometimes highly qualified) individuals whose opinions flow against the tide. Prof Delores Cahill is one of those few outliers, one of less than one percent of professional opinion. The important point that goes straight over your head is that the other 99% plus disagree with her. Ask yourself why her opinion is not important to the scientific world but is important to you. If you are honest you are likely to find your answer somewhere around your processing of the fact that you don’t like being told what to do, whether lockdown or wearing a mask. If you dig a little deeper you may also uncover a profound sense of personal shame at your own failure as a human being, which is why you have to tell yourself that you are in possession of information that few people are aware of and by spreading the word you are doing something important. In fact, you just look like the fool that you are.

I came across an interesting comment regarding ventilation while reading a Dorothy Sayers mystery novel, WHOSE BODY? written in 1923. "The coroner, looking around the crowded assembly in court, directed all windows to be opened. He said with the influenza about again all unopened windows presented a death trap, and that anybody who objected were welcome to leave and if further disturbance was made he would clear the court!" It's a joyful reading all around; think there's something in it to opening windows?😂 Schools and public buildings need to rethink and redo all of those closed windows. End of story.👵💖😊

Excellent presentation. When and if we are ever able to get the vaccine here in Central New Jersey, we will not use any of the over the counter anti-fever medications. No Aleve, No Tylenol, No Ibuprofen or similar. Similar to your other subscribers I am very grateful to you for these daily covid update presentations. Please be aware your efforts (which must be exhausting to some degree) have had a positive effect at least on my immediate family. Following your advice and information our immediate family has up to now avoided covid, in spite of the death of an close immediate family member and tmy wife’s recent surgical hospitalization (during which the hospital used was largely based upon their on going covid precautions) In contrast at least 10 to 12 members of our extended family have contracted. 4 have had serious hospitalization. There have been 2 Covid deaths in people close to us. One of the covid events was directly attributed to a “Christmas get together” as opposed to a Christmas Party, the difference being one family each hour which I refused to allow anyone to attend. 7 or 8 people who attended were contaminated and 2 hospitalized.
The hospitalization have been very serious one patient who survived experienced multiple lung embolisms, descent into complete paranoid psychosis and a serious heart attack for one patient.
I attribute our continued covid avoidance to your updates in very large part.

    Dear Professor Campbell
Since one year I listen to your contribution to mankind , thanks to a co-student on a "Future Learn" course of the London School of Hygiene &Tropical Medicine , on a regular pace
My compatriot and collegue Prof Peter Piot was one of the speakers and not yet sick from the Covid during this cursus , which was of good quality
Meanwhile I got the virus on 30th october (vitamin D is not virusfirewall...)a and resumed my activities 12 days later (major ageusia & anosmia lasting 90 days, cough ,fatigue came afterwards ) my father 91 years old got it on 10th of december in the seniors community and died on Boxing Day , the cremation was on Sylvesterday
2020 was an annus horribilis in which I not only lost ,my father but also, more than 5 beloved collegues younger than myself from Covid and suicides as collateral damage
I do love follow your daily highlights and admire your brilliant insights and educational skills, I myself became a true field expert with experience with my on patients since the early day in February 2020 on the Covidwarfront
The reason why I adress me to you ( and your followers) is about the vaccination after recovering of Covid :
two collegues with major Covid(one in the first the other in the second wave) got the first jab an developed flu-like symptoms during 3 days (this confirms the cyphers you have given to day)
I myself have a sufficient humoral immunity and a good vitamin D level to take the risk to wait till september before my first jab
I do not fear the variants of Covid , but tells my patients a metaphore :
Corona is like a bestseller book : ONCE THE FIRST EDITION IS EXHAUSTED a second ,third and numerous editions are printed ,all with the same content but with newer printing defects or rectifications to replace the collectors item( first edition)
Once reading the book or in analogy being ,infected by the virus , the body reads the whole virus (every chapter of the book) and makes antybodies to the various parts of the intruder
The vaccin makes antybodies against one chapter ,but the most crucial chapter ,
I take the option to advice my recovered sympotomatic patients from Covid , to wait for the end of this year to have the first jab , I am for this point not on the same lenght of the decisionmakers in Belgium but I take responsability for my point of vue
We need in my country a REACT 2 study or even do systematicaly an antibodysurvay to know exactly the level of herdimmunity
I hope ,Dear Professor Campbell , that you can stay save till you have your first jab and that the world can enjoy your kindness
    Best Regards
    Miguel D
