Hi Ian. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
WOW! AMAZING sketches!!! I just LOVE your style and your compositions... how you're always able to perfectly select the subject matter and frame it using its surroundings!
I am a Wildlife and Nature artist (still learning) and I've started a few months ago with urban sketching. You're an inspiration and i just hope that if you ever stop here in Madrid for a workshop that I'll be able to attend because I would love to meet you in person and learn from you on sight!
Cheers from Sunny Spain!
😁👍😎✌
Thank you for the kind words Jim! Hoping to do a sketching holiday in Spain in 2026 with Urban Sketch Course
Oh: that I could be so bold in “splashing” some unusual colours into my urban sketches…. Blue leaves Ian ?? Yes! Why not blue leaves…. I must do some…. Or violet…. Or orange….. purple…… whatever. I will take a deep breath and then just DO IT ! THANKS IAN.
Watching from Kenya. STUNNING! Love how you play with arbitrary colours n huge white spaces!
Thank you so much!
Thanks Ian..loved this….. and your detailed explanation….very different….loved the limited palette too.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful, lively and inspiring! Thank you…
Glad you enjoyed it!
I absolutely love the beauty & your use of color, I struggle with being free with color I always seem to paint things as life as taught use how can I free myself from these thoughts to be free with color?
Lots of practice and not as much worry! Let yourself go and put whatever colour you feel like :)
Yes, I will certainly set the intention and work on it. 😊
Beautiful work! Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much!
