The demise of the GEICO Honda squad at the conclusion of the 2020 racing season left Jo Shimoda without a ride, even though the rookie professional had one more season left on his factory contract. Like the rest of the squad, Shimoda and his agent Lucas Mirtle began to look for a new home for 2021 and beyond. Though the official press release has yet to drop, the young racer from Suzuka, Japan, has been linked to the powerful Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team, and we were on hand to catch his first day on a stock Kawasaki KX250 on film. Jo's trademark smooth, effortless style seemed to work perfectly on the all-new machine, and he agreed to chat with us a little bit about his new colors.
Happy to see him land a solid ride. His rookie season went criminally overlooked. 3rd in points in the 250 East and 11th in points outdoors. No major crashes and got faster throughout the season.
I know. Guy had an amazing rookie season. Noticeably got faster as the season progressed.

Shoutout to him for actually sharing info about the deal. Even if it is basics. Feel like this would definitely help the sport and people would be more invested if we knew about deals like they do in every other major sport

I think this is a first for a Japanese rider on a Japanese bike that we will see him at the top soon, pretty cool I think. I have been racing since the 70s and have never seen this. You will see the engineers in their white lab coats looking on and that was about it, so it will be refreshing to see a rider from the country of origin. Respectfully saying.

Wow, Pro-circuit called him. If you're gonna lose a team, hardly a better place to fall into. I am bit surprised that a Japanese manufacturer didn't sponsor him directly. I think they'll regret that.

mumford or hartraft probably should have gotten the spot personally, but shimoda should be good on that bike
Mumford’s never raced supercross and hartraft is big on the 250. Jo has the best upside of the 3.
Mumford over 250 roty? Yeah no. Hartranft should be the single ktm rider. They fucked that up. Hartranft is on Hep.
@@fafh716 that award is dumb like you think shimoda is better than Jett? No, it’s based on points standings. Mumford has a much more aggressive riding style which works better in the 250 class so I personally think Mumford deserved that spot
