The hardest problem is mastering a bad mix (where there's badly done eq, wrong balance etc.). You can't fix that.. The low end however is the no. 1 thing which is the hardest the do for the home studio guys because they just can't hear it properly. That's why mastering is so important these days.
Awesome ! for me you are Top 3 Mastering-Influencer-Engineer on YT. Always Good Tipps! Perhaps you could answer my question: when the Mix is 100% Perfect for you (and i mean EVERYTHING is 100% Perfect) what would you exactly do on the master-Bus? Perhaps just a limiter?
Other options based on other videos you've made would be to a) use TDR Infrasonic with Dyn Bump and harmonics to maintain that energy, or b) use Tone Projects Michelangelo to EQ the transients (but the compression and saturation could also help compensate). Is there a specific reason why you would choose how you did it with Ozone over those 2 or is it moreso just changing things up to keep it fun/fresh? Thanks for all your great tips!
Possibly so! I wanted to offer accessible alternatives which everyone has (The HPF and the MB) as well as show how I actually did it in the sessioin; (Using ozone) I prefered Ozone over the options you mentioned because I wanted to be as transparent to the material as possible; come in, and leave without disrupting too much; Infrasonic also is a filter from 50hz and below; I did manipulate some of the lows from 100-200 in this example
you could also use Impact, reduce dynamics on the low band and turn auto-gain on. so it would tame the transient and bring up the body, without any intervention in phase and also with just one plugin. thank you for these techniques!
For me the hardest problem rn is to create that space and depth to a mix, iam a fan of mike deans mixes but i dont know how he is doing it feels like he creates so much space and cleanness that you can hear every vocal instrument and drum perfectly. Would be cool if you know how to create that kind of definition love ya videos
My main issue, even with all of these tools, is that the kick is just too loud IMO. Reducing the low end without being able to actually turn down the whole kick makes it feel a bit "donky" (is that a word?).
@@panorama_mastering splitEQ gives you much more control over how the tonal and transient information is being isolated and processed (see, e.g. separation, decay, and smooth functions), which can help achieve better results. however, ozone 11 is very good.
from trd? do you know if plugin alliance has one of there own? might be compelled to buy Infrasonic. how has it helped your mixes hapyshadow if you dont mind me asking?
@@rickythethird High passing in mixing/mastering just doesn't often sound good because you loose that low end energy but Infrasonic allows you (in a really focused way) to find the sweet spot really quickly + it can add in a dynamic bump which compensates for that loss. You can also add in sub harmonics and 2nd/3rd order harmonics at the same time that can also help. I dont really like the sound of the sub harmonics as it sounds a bit cluttered to me but the 2nd and 3rd order harmonics sound great sometimes. Defiantly worth buying IMO especially as its not expensive at all!
oh wow thanks for sharing, wonderful thinking. is there any plugin alliance plugins that do similar work? just wondering becasue i am the PA monthly subcription but if it takes to buy it ill buy it. just wanting to make sure there isnt anything out there similar , you know?@@happyshadow
I find low end fun and hard in equal doses. And referencing can really confuse this further, you think you’ve nailed it and boom another reference makes you unsure. Certain worth never going between genres as a rock low end it totally different to EDM due to the energy.
@@panorama_mastering what’s your preference in sidechain ducking for conflicting frequencies? for example ducking a synth when a vocal is sharing the same frequencies. sidechain compression? Sidechain dynamic EQ?
I like the way you use the spectral analysis to really get it down to a science. You let me get much better use out of things like Insight. I use iZotope over FF plugins so was good to finally see them used instead of the alternative, thanks bro
for a tight mix (including low end and upper bass): VU meters!

thanks for dropping knowledge (over n over)!
My pleasure!
This little tutorial gem has the potential to help out so many people like me. As always, easy and straight o the point. Thank you 🌈

So cool! Love this 🔥🔥🔥

That's a pretty cool idea!
I like that you are using ozone to the fullest alrdy! Have you tried spliteq by the way? How do you think it fares?
Thanks mate! I haven't tried SplitEQ.
This video made my day ! It's the "problem" i deal with every week. As always, THANKS , i really aprecciate your content mafren :)
You are so welcome!
I now feel sorry for the dude who mixed the first tune i had pressed almost 20years ago he did a great job i had no idea back then
What's important is, is that you've improved since!
They got a real problem with that bass line and that's probably the reason they ended up pushing the kick super hard
listening to the delta of the limiter is pretty wild. Doing that from now on.
Yeah that delta mode stuff has changed my whole mindset, great stuff!
Thank you
No sweat!
I knew exactly where this was going. lol. I love the new Ozone 11 features.
Bang on!
Very good!
Why not to try soothe which works great on lowend
I wanted to have a bit more control and precision to tweaking; I felt most comfortable with this setup

converters and hardware makes a huge difference then they print back to daw which makes it easier to archive that’s basically what it is

Nice work as usual. I do pretty much the same thing but using SplitEQ instead. Definitely worth checking out if its not in your toolbox.
Thanks for sharing! What feature set does splitEQ have that ozone doesn't?

My favorite is dmg multiplicity for low end manipulation
From my testing highpassing has to be (unusably) high to gain any meaningful headroom/lufs. That Infrasonic plugin is awesome though!

Thanks. Where in the chain do you do this, first or before the limiter?. Best/Mathias

I can hear it but its extremely subtle, quite honestly this is more on the nit picky side, to be frank.
I feel you!
is there a way to have a bandpass compressor to fix this?

ok but how to fix it on mix stage?
Bring the fader of the kick drum down.

I must say that the given track here is a really really bad example of the genre. Awful.
