I loved reexperiencing this series with you again. All these years later and OG Dragon Ball is still an all time classic. I'd argue it's one of the few anime out there that I would consider as near flawless. It's a simple story about adventure,growing both in body and in spirit and using the strength that comes with that for what's right and I can't think of a better MC than Goku to represent these themes. A naive kindhearted boy raised in the mountains,growing through experiencing the world outside and through the people that he helps throughout his journey,it's a really sweet and inspiring story and I'm glad you loved the journey. Next up DBZ HYPE!

I love how everything comes full circle, how if Kami-sama had never created the dragon balls then Goku would never have met all his friends, become as strong as he has and saved the world. This would have absolutely been a satisfying end to the series. This arc does such a great job of celebrating the whole series and everything that has come before up until now. There are so many call backs to previous stories and all the ongoing plot threads get wrapped up. Like Chichi coming back to collect on Goku's promise, the return of Tao Pai Pai to get revenge on Goku as well as Tenshinhan and Chaozu for betraying the Crane school, Ma Juniour coming to avenge his Father, Goku settling the score with his rival Tenshinhan, and perhaps most importantly; Goku winning the Tenkaichi Budokai and proving himself the Number One Under the Heavens. What a great ending this would have been; Goku gets married, defeats his rival Tenshinhan, surpasses God, saves the world from Piccolo and proves himself the strongest man in the world. While I find each match to be very entertaining and exciting, especially the final match between Goku and Piccolo, I'd be lying if I didn't admit how before the tournament even starts we already know the final match will be Goku vs Piccolo so it takes a lot of tension out of the earlier fights. It also seems a bit ridiculous how Piccolo follows the tournament rules the whole time and somehow manages to stay in bounds after he grows giant and is as big as the ring, even when Goku picks him up and throws him. And it sure is convenient how the Goku's headbutt that knocks Piccolo out of bounds also knocks him out. What makes the story work though is the audience, I mean us watching, not the tournament audience. We've seen Goku's journey and seen him fail not just once, but twice. At this point, we want Goku to win just as much as Goku himself does. Interesting thought about Goku sparing Piccolo, because yes it does seem completely crazy for Goku to do this by any logical thinking. From my interpretation, Goku is almost a living embodiment of karma. At the very beginning of the series, Goku and Bulma are faced with an ethical dilema of whether or not to help Umigame (Sea Turtle) find his way home. Bulma refuses as there is no benefit for her while Goku decides to help him just becuase he feels it is the right thing to do, Toriyama showing us that Bulma is selfish while Goku is selfless. Once they reach the ocean, Umigame returns with Kame Sen'nin who rewards Goku with Kinto 'Un and Bulma is punished when she willingly shows her panties but accidently shows a lot more. During their training, Goku and Kuririn are tasked with finding a rock with the Kame kanji on it, with the loser going without dinner. Goku finds it fair and square but Kuririn screws Goku over at every opportunity and ends up taking the stone from Goku. Goku goes without dinner but Kuririn and the others end up getting food poisoning from the fugu Lunch cooked. Again, Kuririn was punished for his actions. With Piccolo, this does seem crazy but you never know what the future of the story holds. In both of the examples I mentioned, Goku ended up benefitting in the long term so maybe the same will happen with Goku's decision here. That all being said, there is a level of selfishness as Goku in part spares Piccolo in the hopes of them both getting stronger and fighting again some day, so who knows.
as Hunter said, I recorded my DB reactions a few months ago, it takes some time to edit for TH-cam. I went to Japan right after finishing DB (in August). By now I have watched up to episode 60 in DBZ, it's on my Patreon already, but I will be editing it for TH-cam starting soon :)
@Ash_Wen-li we are lucky that dragon ball/z is from the 80s and 90s. Today they cancel shows if it risks things .back then, they could do so much things. Anime will never be the same Anymore. They dont have enough freedom anymore.
And people think Super and Daima have the same spirit of the original dragon ball. Dragon Ball was clearly aimed at young adults and wasn't watered down and censored like Super and Daima.
Calm dawn. Super anime? Yes but the movies? Nope. The movies and the manga are much better and more brutal. Dragon ball daima? Is peak right now. It has blood and there will be more later just wait. Daima had good cheography like the good old days. I hope we can all watch dragon ball daima after dbz. And dragon ball daima is canon. Why do you think dbz kai exists? Its cencosered just for new gen and because dbz was to brutal and to honest. Yes dbz is just legendary and next level, it was just the late 80s and early 90s, a different time with so much more options.
@MagicDragonfictionDB Kai wasn't made to be censored. It was made as a better paced more manga accurate version of the manga. It's censored because Japanese broadcasting standards got more strict.

We lucky that dragon ball is a 80s show because if they would remake it, it wouldnt be the same, the jokes, the brutality the blood, the humor, just alot of things. They would cancel roshi. 😂 The first 20 episodes, alot of moments would be deleted maybe.
It's pretty cool how we had the Piccolo Saga on TH-cam along with the Frieza Saga on Twitch. Those 2 arcs are usually discussed as perfect ending points for the series, and even Toriyama didn't plan anything after Frieza initially.

But also it's discussed briefly in an interview that he would've ended things here but only IF the editors wouldn't allow him to let Goku grow up but nothing else after that. The rest are just fandom speculations and wouldn't like to discuss them coz it can go into spoilers territory really fast lol
@animaechan Yup, Toriyama is famous for not really planning ahead. Even Goku and Piccolo being aliens was not the original intention, they were just a weird monkey boy and a green demon before the Saiyan Saga.

Yup. Goku let Piccolo escape just so he can fight him again. Goku doesn't want the fighting to end. But he's on top and if the aces keep dying off like they usually do, then how he is ever going to be happy with that. How will he see greater heights? He's not going to let something like that waste away. And yes, the Dragon Balls are still important to him.

For now only DBZ it's confirmed and she will decide after Z (or when she is close to finish it) if she wants to continue with more DB content or take a break or whatever, if she decided to continue, DBS, Daima and GT are all options (even DBZ Abridge more in the future it's in her mind) if she goes for Super she will be watching canon movies/special too, don't worry about that. For the DBS manga it's so far away that I can't say anything for sure, but it's less likely and probably waiting for it to be adapted is a more likely option, anyway by that time we will probably have some officials news about "DBS 2" so in those arc are skipped could be something that she could do for her recently revived manga read along channel.
In my opinion, Toriyama should have had Goku use the Kamehameha with his feet only at the end, as the final blow. That way, the headbutt on Piccolo would have more impact and would look more cool too. I'm glad you'll not post the final filler episodes here. I think they are very boring.
Well the idea was that Goku barely won. Throwing out a last second Kamehameha implies he would still have energy at the end. Plus they already did that in the last arc
@@宏樹-c2e The headbutt at the end seemed so simple and without much impact. Even Animaechan commented on a live that she found the end of this fight boring.
I think that a victory thanks to the Kamehameha would have been much less cool, as Goku specifically didn't show anyone during all his fights that he had learned how to fly, and thanks to that, Piccolo thought, that Goku would not have had enough time to dodge his final attack.
@@Ash_Wen-li I said to leave the Kamehameha with his feet ONLY at the end. Not before. Think about it, his arms were injured so he couldn't use his hands to fire the energy blast, his legs were broken, leaving only his feet. He would use his last energy in a Kamehameha with his feet, as a last resort. That way the headbutt would have much more impact and it would make more sense to leave Piccolo incapacitated for the fight.

This is a kind of Japanese dialect. There is a nuance that chichi is a countryman.

逆に言えば、相手が待ってくれる悟空じゃなかったら、マジュニアはああいう技を使えなかった事にもなります。

この天下一武道会編を見ていて思うのは、チチにボディータッチするヤムチャのシーンが多いなという事。
その昔、女を受け付けなかった頃のヤムチャを思い出します(その頃でもチチは触れましたが)。
悟空が舞空術(空を飛ぶ技)を披露したのはここが初めてですが、薄いリアクションでした(悟空は、ここまで隠し通していたんですけどね)。
亀仙人の「たった1つのドラゴンボール…」という話、本当に好き！
悟空が神を快諾していた場合、僅か数十年で寿命を迎える為、すぐに後任を探さないといけないでしょう。

Well the idea was that Goku barely won. Throwing out a last second Kamehameha implies he would still have energy at the end. Plus they already did that in the last arc
@@宏樹-c2e The headbutt at the end seemed so simple and without much impact. Even Animaechan commented on a live that she found the end of this fight boring.
I think that a victory thanks to the Kamehameha would have been much less cool, as Goku specifically didn't show anyone during all his fights that he had learned how to fly, and thanks to that, Piccolo thought, that Goku would not have had enough time to dodge his final attack.
@@Ash_Wen-li I said to leave the Kamehameha with his feet ONLY at the end. Not before. Think about it, his arms were injured so he couldn't use his hands to fire the energy blast, his legs were broken, leaving only his feet. He would use his last energy in a Kamehameha with his feet, as a last resort. That way the headbutt would have much more impact and it would make more sense to leave Piccolo incapacitated for the fight.
