Funny Boy

Shyam Selvadurai’s novel about a boy coming-of-age and coming to terms with his sexuality during the Sri Lankan Civil War is absolutely brilliant. He weaves the political together with the personal so skilfully, and manages to turn a highly specific situation into something universally felt. Emily’s walking book club loved it; highly recommend.
