Is that normal that the polylines that resulted from the operation appear to be straight, like not following the street grid? Are we sure the distance between the stations are via the network and are not simply euclidian?
You have to create your "network dataset" in order for the functions of the Network Analyst extension to work. The network dataset is built from a polyline shapefile that contains all the streets, highways, bridges, etc. of the geographical region you want to analyse. To transform that shapefile into a proper network dataset that Network Analyst can use, follow the Exercice 1 of the online tutorial: desktop.arcgis.com/fr/arcmap/latest/extensions/network-analyst/exercise-1-creating-a-network-dataset.htm.
