  • AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ: ASTS) has announced agreements to secure orbital launch capacity for a global, space-based cellular broadband network accessible directly from standard smartphones.
Targeting high-demand markets like the U.S., Europe, Japan, and government applications, the launch campaign will begin in 2025-2026 from Cape Canaveral, using Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket and other vehicles to deploy up to 60 next-gen Block 2 BlueBird satellites.
These satellites will deliver 10x the current bandwidth, achieving nearly full U.S. coverage with data speeds up to 120 Mbps. The Block 2 BlueBirds, featuring 2,400 sq. ft. communication arrays, will be the largest in low Earth orbit, compatible with major launch vehicles and optimized for New Glenn's spacious seven-meter fairing, accommodating up to 8 satellites per launch.
Scott Wisniewski, President of AST SpaceMobile stated: “We have now contractually secured orbital launch capacity during 2025 and 2026 to enable continuous cellular broadband service coverage of the AST SpaceMobile network.”
AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices.
