Watching the show, I have to say that Dove Cameron does great portraying both characters in my own opinion. She acts both of them great, not that I'm a professional actor or anything, but I think she does great.

When I was younger, I used to watch this show and I thought they were actual twins so I was always thinking why they didn’t put the other twins name in the intro 😂

Producers and casting directors don't just cast the best. Most of the time they have a style/look already in mind. Trying to find a person to match that, with the proper talent can be difficult; twins on top of that? Could be quite challenging. Instead, they'll take one great actor who meets their preferences.
She'll film scenes for each character separately. If the characters interact, a body double is used for back shots and everything else is edited and merged

Well it is editing it actually takes 3 people one plays either liv or Maddie while dove plays the other so when dove is on one double is dressed as Maddie when Maddie is on the other is liv

@Aanya Theia Kumar it’s because Dove had one body double that played Maddie when she was Liv and one body double that played Liv when she was Maddie, so that is how they are hugging etc.

.....People are actually mad over one person playing twins? Who cares? Has anyone ever seen the Parent Trap with Lindsay Lohan who played twins? Single actors have played twins many times. No one ever complains when twins play one person, which happens a lot more than we think. A show's quality should be judged on its plot and its actors. Dove does a great job of playing two completely different people and she should be commended. Tbh, this is one of the few shows left on Disney that actually has substance and is bearable to watch.
