I totally feel the pain of the person with anxiety. I was so afraid to talk to tattoo artists before I found my current artist. But we vibed and I love his work and now I'm super comfortable around him.
Thank you so much for answering my question! I'm trying to work on my anxiety and to talk to people more. This is very reassuring for me, so thank you again! x
Bonnie Newbold I love my tattoo artist, but I am definitely not a chatty person. Last week I got a tattoo that lasted 2 hours and we barely talked at all! I'm 100% certain she did not care! Don't stress about it! I always think it's better to be quiet than an obnoxious talker! You can always just take headphones with you and listen to music during your tattoo, problem solved!
I can relate 100% about the anxiety. I have several tattoos and this is, still, literally the main thing that freaks me out the most - the socializing!! Never mind the pain, put me in a social situation and I will be shitting a brick. Katrin is absolutely right in that the artist is there to do a job and does not care at all if you're quiet or not. You just have to focus on that while trying to calm your nerves. Good luck! :-)
I have anxiety too and just had a 4 hour tattoo done. Talked a bit for the first hour and awkwardly TRIED to think of something to say for the next 3 hours, so you’re not alone! 💕 It’s a lot easier if you find an artist that you click with :)
I have so much respect for you. I have learned so much about tattoos from you and about life in general. You offer a very real and fresh perspective and you are nothing but yourself. Absolutely fucking fantastic
That last question reminded me of one I got from a friend not long ago: he came to me for advice on how much he should pay for a full sleeve, because the studio was telling him to just "name a price, and they'd make a sleeve worth that price", despite my friend telling them he'd never gotten tattooed before and didn't even know how much a tattoo would cost (especially abroad, as my friend wanted to travel to get specifically tattooed by these guys.) They ended up being total assholes to him and putting him off getting tattooed altogether. :/
Uhmmmmm they should do the best tattoo they can possibly do to all their customers?? They shouldn't adjust the quality based on how much the customer is willing to pay. What a fucking shit studio. Hope he goes to a better studio and gets what he wants.
When a tattooer tells you "paid me [with] whatever you want" is cuz' he wants to fuck with you (in the most of cases) #lol you should never take this as answer.
Being quiet while getting tattooed is just finde. Some people can handle the pain better without talking and no artist would (or should) force you to talk. Maybe they'll start a smalltalk conversation to see whether you want to chat or not. If not: No problem. They'll probably just focus on their work, maybe turn on music or a film, if they have the possibility to do so, and be quiet.
Alice L Yeah. I'm very shy myself so talking to my artist would be pretty awkward and hard for me. I'd prefer to just sit there and listen to music or something. Good thing that when I got my first tattoo, my artist had some other tattoo artists there (observing his work) so he'd talk to them and I got to just sit there without having to worry about talking. ^^''
I got my first tattoo today on my ribs today, it didn't take too long but I didn't talk too much to my artist. Felt like to be able to stay still and ignore the pain I just focused on my breathing, listening to music and reading some of the stuff on the walls.
wow, this makeup look is STUNNING on you Kat!! and I always appreciate these types of videos. kind of ironic that this was published on my birthday, and I actually got my first tattoo on my birthday. just a little one for now but maybe some day I'll get some bigger, beautiful work like you!
I'm planning on getting my first tattoo this year and your advice videos have been helping me feel so much more comfortable. Thank you so much for making these videos. There's an artist in North Carolina I really like but I was worried about what people would say about me spending so much money traveling (I live in the midwest in US and North Carolina is on the East Coast) to get a tattoo from an artist I really like, but your answer helped me feel better about doing it. Maybe not this year, but eventually :)
I would like to respond to the question of a skin disease and tattoos, I know I wasn't asked but I have psoriasis and tattoos. There is a chance during the healing process that you will have a flare on the spot of the tattoo, in my case it cleared when the tattoo healed. ONLY use products that you know won't break your skin out more. I have also gotten tattoos and never had any psoriasis show up on them durning the healing, but years down the road have gotten spots on them. They will not effect the tattoo if you just leave them alone, don't pick at the skin, and make sure to apply creams and lotions to keep it hydrated. Never ever tattoo over effected skin, let the skin heal before getting the tattoo, and make sure to eat healthy months before the tattoo, and after to avoid flaring. I have some tattoos now, with psoriasis on them, and honestly it doesn't look bad, it is what it is. If you want tattoos with skin issue, then take the steps you know your body needs before and after to lessen the chance of your skin reacting. oh and also HUGE side note, if you are using topical steroids to treat your condition, DO NOT apply them to your tattoo, it thins the skin, and can leave scarring. I've never done this, but know a few people who have.
Stephanie Ann Could not agree more with you! I have psoriasis too and it has not affected my tattoos so far. I do always tell the artist on forehand that I've got psoriasis and that I will be using my own cream for aftercare because of that. Most important is not to use hormone creams on your tattoos ever. Just keep them moisterised very well, so far arnica cream and shea butter do the trick for me.
I love that you always give such positive advice without judgement. I like this series too, it's interesting to hear answers to more specific questions, as opposed to the more general advice videos people usually make.
My dad got his tattoos touched up but he got them when he was in the army. He got them in the early 70s and got them touched up in the early 2000s. So, I totally agree that if the artist is quality, a touch up will be a very far down the road.
Exactly! :D You never HAAVE to get them touched up, especially if you have your entire body covered. But if you want to, I'd say 20 to 30-ish years down the road ^^
My advice for being a quiet person is just to say at the beginning "hey, I'm a quiet person, so don't feel bad if I'm not chatting with you". Anyone who judges you is just a jerk.
Ever since day one when I subscribed to you, I always loved how you promote individuality and having your own likes, dislikes, etc. And a majority of these responses to the questions prove that even more. Thank you for always encouraging people to just be themselves and not worry about others ❤️
Oh my god, to clarify I love talking with my clients!! However, I LOVE when someone doesn't feel like talking. As long as they aren't coming across as cold lol but it's nice to just focus on tattooing sometimes.
to whoever asked about the fern tattoo on the back: I'm also not a shapes/body form specialist but you know how wearing clothes with vertical stripes makes you look slimmer? I would assume that a longline vertical tattoo would actually go quite nicely with broad shoulders by elongating the rest of the back :) I too have broad shoulders and would definitely photoshop a sketch on my back to see how it would look like haha
I just got my first tattoo recently, and I already have my appointment for the next one, it's gonna be so good to be tattoed again! :) I mean not so much for the experience or the aftercare, buut the finished product is just I dunno, so fulfilling for me! :)
Wow your make up is incredible, you look even more stunning than usual! Do you have a tutorial on the eyebrows you did here or would you consider making one?
I really like this series (I know there's only 2, but I can see this turning into a longer series lol). I really like how clear and concise you are answering questions, and how reassuring you are. It's good to see this kind of positivity on the internet. I just appreciate what you're doing and hope you continue doing it for as long as you enjoy. :3 subscribed~
Regarding talking to artists, I deal with social anxiety as well and I get so so nervous about talking to people in studios during all the stages of booking and getting tattooed... I find that while I'm getting tattooed I don't talk to the artist either, because trying to hold a conversation with the artist while also focusing on the pain tolerance (I get really "in the zone" when I get tattooed or pierced haha, I just get super focused and zenned out at the same time as my brain's instinctual way of blocking out the pain) just makes the anxiety and pain worse... But before and after or during any breaks, it's easier for me to hold small talk... And I can promise no artist is gonna think you're annoying for not talking while they're tattooing, because most likely they're in a focused state as well, and they might only care to talk when they're not tattooing, and those moments won't last long so it's usually pretty manageable.
I only have one tattoo so far and it's sort of a watercolor, but my tattoo artist gave me a huge discount because she likes doing that style. I told her at the beginning how much I had on me and she said it'd be fine, even though it was almost a third of what it should have cost. It does need a few touch ups (which she said are free), so when I go back, I plan on giving her a great tip because she's so wonderful.
For the person that asked the question about talking to your tattoo artist: in conventions I've seen many customers wearing headphones and listening to music while getting tattooed. You can do that as well. You don't need to specifically ask the tattoo artist "Can you please not talk to me?", you can just zone out with your music and he/she will understand that you don't want to talk, and will leave you alone. They're probably used to it, more people than you think don't like to talk while getting tattooed. You don't have to force yourself to find topics to talk about, and definitely don't force yourself to talk if you don't want to. It's fine if you don't want to talk, if you want to work on your anxiety, you can do it in other occasions that make you feel a bit more comfortable as a starting point. I can imagine there is a big difference between talking to someone in front of a beer and talking to someone that is staring at your bare skin for 3 hours while working on it (it can be embarrassing even for extrovert people!)
The answer to a lot of questions people have about tattoos is simply: talk to you artist. I was like that at one point too, but it's surprising how many people don't understand that a tattoo artist lives and breathes tattoos and it is their job to be an expert about everything tattoos: placement, color, size, how should they fit together, etc. Trust your artist!
Exactly. That's what I try to say in all my videos as well. TALK TO YOUR ARTIST. But I still like to answer the questions I can just to calm people down. I just assume people know that I'm just giving my personal advice, one friend to another. I ain't no pro.
Just noticed this was published the day I got my first tattoo! Your videos really prepared me for what to expect when I was getting mine so thank you for that! I have even already set up a consultation for my next piece because they are addicting lol
Second question: I have severe eczema! I have a sternum piece that has a couple of dry patches as well. I've noticed that my skin hasn't irritated or interfered with my tattoo at all. If it does get itchy when it flares up, I try not to scratch as much, kind of like when you first get a tattoo, you're not supposed to scratch it a whole lot. I would recommend keeping it hydrated. I put lotion on my dry areas pretty often, not every day though because I forget lol. But if you have severe severe eczema that is scabby, rough, bumpy, and inflamed 24/7 with no relief I would ask a doctor or your tattoo artist. Also, I would schedule a tattoo around a time your skin is getting back to normal, I wouldn't get tattooed when my skin was inflamed. The healing would take forever long, and you would then risk patchiness and missing ink due to the skin shedding so much during a spell. The main thing I've noticed to focus on with eczema and tattoos would be when it flares up, try your best not to mess with it.
I've been binge watching your tattoo videos all day! I'm getting my first tattoo in a couple of weeks. It's a shoulder piece (I'm a go big or go home type of gal--even though some people still might not see that as big 😹) I'm very excited because this will be the first of many and I'm surprisingly more excited than anxious or scared. I learned a lot from your videos so thank you!
I prefer to be quiet while getting a tattoo. I once had a friend watch as I got my tattoo and I told her to be quiet, both for my sake and the tattoo artist. I like to zone out so that I dont focus on the pain and so I can trust the artist to do their job
Love these videos as they're super useful for people. Being unsure on which artists to go to, just speaking to the artist instead of presuming that they won't want to do something in a particular colour palette is better. My sleeve that is in progress/ being reworked is being done by an artist who's preference is normally b&w but has really loved doing colour on me. Just ask!
I have atopic eczema as well, I just started getting tattoos but they have healed fine so far I just have to moisturise regularly and make sure I take care of my skin. Wouldn't advise getting it done on eczema that is irritated, red and broken though.
My tattoo artist always does the "what do you want to pay" thing. We're pretty good friends, but it still drives me crazy because I don't want to short him. Glad I'm not alone in this.
I have had a situation similar to the last question! :) In the end I paid based on the price range the artist has had on his other works of the same size and added around 20€ extra because I was happy about the finished piece.
Adding to the red skin question: I have rosacea on my upper arms. I have red skin with bumps that are calcium deposits. I got them tattooed, and they are doing fine. The shaving process removed the bumps prior to tattooing. From my research the tattoos will just fade faster than my other ones. This means I may need touch ups more frequent. I hope this helps someone.
I only have one tattoo (so far) on my left wrist. I'm getting one on the side of my heel this spring and one on my thigh hopefully this year, but I'm saving my whole right arm. I have an amazing idea for a sleeve, but I'm not 100% sure I want to commit to a whole sleeve yet. I also *personally* don't want a sleeve in future wedding pics (totally personal, I don't judge anyone that has heavily tattooed wedding photos). so I'm just saving that whole arm for several years down the line. I think that's a totally normal thing to do, to save a certain space.
great video! loving all your advices regarding tattoos. would you be able to tell me what you wearing on your eyebrows please? I have similar hair colour and can't never get the right shade :/
I love patchwork sleeves. They're like a museum of someone's interests on their skin.
I totally feel the pain of the person with anxiety. I was so afraid to talk to tattoo artists before I found my current artist. But we vibed and I love his work and now I'm super comfortable around him.
I have a similar experience also.
Your eyes are really popping in this makeup look, I don't know what it is but they look fantastic!
Holy shit, girl! You look absolutely amazing here!!!
Oh thank you :D
The colours of you are so amazing
Thank you so much for answering my question! I'm trying to work on my anxiety and to talk to people more. This is very reassuring for me, so thank you again! x

Thank you!! x

before the video even starts I want to say that your makeup game is lit af ♡
My mom has had her sleeve for at least 20 years and she has never had it touched up

Does the artist have an Instagram page because I'm interested in looking for a water color artist
Please do a makeup tutorial! Your makeup is always so on point. Also what eyelashes do you use they look bomb

These are so helpful since i have been contemplating a bunch of stuff about getting a tattoo for a year but know no one that has one. thank you!!!!
your makeup looks fantastic! great video!

Omg I just had to pause the Video to say that you look incredible and your eye makeup is on point
you have such beautiful skin. how are you not a model yet!?

Most of my tatto question have been answered by your tattoo videos !!!
ugh i love this! u are so gorgeous.

Your lip injections look great! Kinda inspired me to get some...

Wow you look stunning!
I prefer to be quiet while getting a tattoo. I once had a friend watch as I got my tattoo and I told her to be quiet, both for my sake and the tattoo artist. I like to zone out so that I dont focus on the pain and so I can trust the artist to do their job
Love your makeup in this vid! Which lipstick brand are you wearing?
She replied to someone farther back in the comments saying she's wearing the brand Make Up Store. It's the lip pencil in the shade Natural.
Nice video, as someone who has a few tattoos already and is getting her sleeve done in near future this was very helpfull ;) cheers
You look stunning!!!
great video,thanks
Love these videos as they're super useful for people. Being unsure on which artists to go to, just speaking to the artist instead of presuming that they won't want to do something in a particular colour palette is better. My sleeve that is in progress/ being reworked is being done by an artist who's preference is normally b&w but has really loved doing colour on me. Just ask!
wow! you look so different! not sure if it's the lips or not, but you look bomb!!
Your lips look 10/10 giiiirl! Deffo made such a difference 🖤
You look really good here!! did you do something of ur makeup differently?? is it ur eyebrows or ?!??! what is this sorcery
Haha I don't know :D Eyebrows are a little different, false lashes are on, nude lips. ^^
Love your makeup !!! 👌😍
Katrin, what is that lipstick you're wearing? Looks really pretty!
I have atopic eczema as well, I just started getting tattoos but they have healed fine so far I just have to moisturise regularly and make sure I take care of my skin. Wouldn't advise getting it done on eczema that is irritated, red and broken though.
Awesome :)
yup I definitely waited till my flare-ups subsided before getting tattooed!
You look gorgeous!!!!
Thank you for answering the one about being anxious to talk to artists! I was worried about that too 😳
My tattoo artist always does the "what do you want to pay" thing.
Ugh I can't wait until I'm 18 😭😍
Sarina Grassi-Hoying pfff me2
Sarina Grassi-Hoying lol i live in QLD in Aus and i have a bunch of tats from a artist
Sarina Grassi-Hoying and im 17
Chicken Permission so lucky 😍
god, I turned 18 not too long ago but I can't get tattooed because I'm pregnant. fml 😂
Adding to the red skin question:
I have rosacea on my upper arms. I have red skin with bumps that are calcium deposits. I got them tattooed, and they are doing fine. The shaving process removed the bumps prior to tattooing.
From my research the tattoos will just fade faster than my other ones. This means I may need touch ups more frequent.
I hope this helps someone.
I love your makeup!!!
You look sooooo beautiful!❤
I have eczema and have tattoos... I just don't get tattoos in areas that flare up more. Like inner arm, wrists, back of knees etc. and I've been fine
my god you are just so stunning
great video! loving all your advices regarding tattoos. would you be able to tell me what you wearing on your eyebrows please? I have similar hair colour and can't never get the right shade :/
