Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this video, you explained it really well. I was wondering if after removing the Hyundai Sonata stereo can I put in an aftermarket stereo or only the original?
great video, thanks for posting. it really helped me get the job done. our Sonata 2008 had a small variant. the last for screws holding the radio in were 8mm and not philips. thanks again for sharing.
Nice vid just bought a used 2007 radio display broken thought about taking to best buy but I can do it myself . I also noticed that the odometer stays on when car is off is that normal since I noticed yours was on to .... Thanks good day take care .
Funny you asked about speakers because I've been thinking of posting a vid on removal and replacement. It's super easy. Word of caution...when replacing stock speakers you may need to add a wide spacer behind the speakers so that the window mechanism doesn't hit the speakers when moving up or down.
I couldn't say, it was included in the package deal from Crutchfield on line. Would you be interested in buying the Kenwood unit, harness, steering wheel control adapter and din? I sold the Sonata and kept the stereo.
Thank you for sharing this video, it is really helpful. You should make another video just showing what ratio you put on it and how it looks and sounds like.
Yes I probably should have, but it's too late now, I have a new car. The radio was taken out and is for sale along with the din, wiring harness, and speakers. Kenwood HD radio with USB and iphone ports, CD player, remote control and removable face plate. Pioneer 6.5" door speakers.
big dogs rule Just curious. Would you happen to know how to remove the ashtray? For some reason, the lighter quit working (no 12v power), and I'm hoping that I can gain access through the ashtray opening since there's no way of getting to it from behind. Also, yes I DID check the fuses and wiring; all is fine.
Jake Jones If I remember correctly the connection is reached by removing the complete floor console. I had to do that to dry out the shifter after liquid spilled into the gear shift opening. There are screws on the exterior of the console as well as hidden screws in the arm rest storage compartment. Also the shift knob needs unscrewed, the center plate needs popped out, and when you lift off the console it may appear that you're going to break things by getting around the parking brake lever, but it will come with a little coersion. Good luck and let me know if my memory is still functioning. lol
big dogs rule Thanks for the reply. Not sure when I can get on it, but will let you know what I did. [figures, these manufacturers intentionally make it difficult just so their dealer shops can make a buck!]
any stereo should work just be sure to get a wiring harness with it. if you have more install questions I suggest crutchfield audio, very helpful techs!
You didn't say if you meant old or new stereo. What you see in the video is stock so I have no idea of brand. I replaced the stock unit with a single DIN Kenwood HD unit with bluetooth, mp3, & usb ports. I didn't show how to remove the door panel and speakers but they were replaced with Pioneers.
Does this radio have a reset code for the radio once you plug it up to the juice. If so what is the reset code. I have same unit but have no idea if their is a code. Nice video helpful!!
you can use any aftermarket unit you want. i installed a single din kenwood hd radio. you just need to get the correct din for your unit. din=plastic piece around the stereo that covers the unit and any spaces between the dash. good luck
Great video, but does not state the difficulty in removing the crashpad, (Long silver piece that is pried). I'm sure the second time it is done the job becomes easier, but i was afraid of cracking the crashpad even with leverage. I've seen replacement units for about $60 on E-bay. Stereo places quoted me $180 just to remove unit to see if they could remove stuck CD.
you need to buy an adapter to get the steering wheel controls to function. Do a google search for it and they are pretty cheap. You will probably also need to buy a small transistor from radio shack and solder it inline. Never had an engine light issue. Good luck!
It would probably be better to remove the center console since that is where the lighter is mounted. There are a few screws on either side and some hidden in the compartments. You need to unscrew the shift knob before you can lift the piece off. I did it this year and it's not that tough and some of the screws may take some detective work and a long magnetized screw driver. Good luck!
there's always that chance....take your time, use a wide pry object to pry with and stay close to the clips, it's in real tight and it seems like if you keep prying it will get damaged but it will come, the plastic clips that hold the nubs are shaped like a clothes pins mouth but much tighter, just take your time.
aussieladee, you probably do need to pull out the whole unit. But it's not that hard, only 4 screws hold it to the dash. Not sure about bulb replacement though. good luck, and post back your results
After prying off anything with those clips, remove clip and put masking tape around the studs, makes removal very easy. As for the radio, try the Eclipse AVN4430 with NAV from Sonic: for $299 sounds way better than that factory stereo.
Warning: The white(ish) plastic trim clips (Hyundai OEM p/n: 84747-1C000) may slip loose when you're removing the garnish (0:55) and fall irretrievably through a portal within your dash to the fifth dimension. You may need to order one or two. The upshot is they only cost a quarter: tinyurl.com/yb7aj25b.
This video description is false. This is NOT how to remove the stereo on a 2009 and above like it says. Anyone know a video that shows how to remove a 2009 stereo?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to make this video, you explained it really well. I was wondering if after removing the Hyundai Sonata stereo can I put in an aftermarket stereo or only the original?
Thank you. I had to retrieve my radio code and need the serial number off the radio. This worked perfectly.
thanks for the video. where did you get the din head unit from and where did you get your radio from?
Thanks a lot!! very helpful video. Internet is better thanks to people like yourself.

thanks for the comment. It'san ez job. As for the odometer...this was 4 cars ago, I don't remember, but if mine was on then probably so. Good luck.
Glad I found this video! Wanted to ask - what brand is the audio system and the speakers?
Funny you asked about speakers because I've been thinking of posting a vid on removal and replacement. It's super easy. Word of caution...when replacing stock speakers you may need to add a wide spacer behind the speakers so that the window mechanism doesn't hit the speakers when moving up or down.

+michael mewshaw - when I sold the car I replaced the factory unit without any code and it worked the same as when I removed it.
What adapter did you use for the wiring harness to connect to the Kenwood HD unit?
Gracias..sin el vídeo no podría cambiarlo..verte helpful..
Thanks for this video. I have a dead radio that I’ve been meaning to replace. Any idea where I can buy a new one?
I have 1
Ebay

does that stereo have rca inputs in the back?

how would you change out the ac temp control?

is there any danger of bending that bar?
2006 sonata had 2 jammed cd's in it, used your vid to take the radio out... No go still broken. CHEAP HYUNDAI JUNK RADIO.

where did you get your din head unit from?
+Kendrell Leday bought at Crutchfield.com
the crashpad (long silver piece) is very hard to remove use care and take your time and pry with a wide blade. Pull hard straight back toward you.
How do you get the CDs out?

Great job man. Thanks a lot
those last screws you removed are stuck in the radio in my car, anybody got any tips to get em out? tried wd40 and power drills already
razorkid456 I'm having the same problem, you have any success
Yes, it was really helpful!!! Thanks!!!!
i believe i have found the factory amp in the trunk but i am not 100% sure it is so if you could show me that would be awesome
Very helpful! Gracias amigo!
s.albert's clip is not for 2006-2008 models but similar.
Very useful. Thanks...
wath's the model of new pice...
like all factory units it only has a jack for a wiring harness.

@GamerNxUSN - there is no ground strap but the new harness should contain a ground wire, just splice the wires.
