    Hey everyone! Thank you all so much for your replies and explanations of the song. As im sure you could tell, I did not realize these songs had a heavy backstory that needed a lot of context in order to understand. By the time I found that out from your wonderful comments, I had already recorded the videos haha so I couldn't take it back and redo it. So this trilogy is just completely at face value with no context and seeing what I could pick up on/piece together. As I read through your comments I realize I missed a toooooon of things haha but these songs were quite different from their usual's like Car Radio or Lane boy.
    Anyways, thank you for watching, I hope it was still entertaining and thank you all for doing such an excellent job explaining, you all are awesome!

      You've probably heard this before, but Tyler let's the clique understand the lyrics in their own way.
      When trench came out they started leaking hints about what was coming. You start to get an idea that they are creating this world where Tyler faces his nemesis blurryface (another album, and an awesome one at that) and the bishops.
      I think if you approach these videos, not only from where you have in each one (great reacts too) but also with the knowledge that Tyler is fighting his depression and anxiety with these songs.
      Keep it up! What I might suggest is to listen to each album in track order, they tell a story.

      Theres a lot of Info and I dont feel like writing for an hour so I'll tell you that yellow represents hope and what they were sayng at the beginning was "we will leave dema and head true east" backwards. Also dema is the city that they're in and the guy in jumpsuit with the red hood is "nico" and the other red hooded guys are the bishops that's why in the song it says "I'm flying from a fire,from nico and the niners" because theres nico and 8 or 9 other bishops. Also they are a resistance against the bishops and they call themselves "banditos" and right before the two kids show up looking at the jumpsuit near the end tyler says "we are banditos" backwards

    I put a comment on the last video that explains some of the world. In Nico and the Niners, we see DEMA for the first time. The reason Jumpsuit is first is because the escape attempt in that video was not his first, nor was it his last. At the beginning of the video, Tyler puts the flower from the end of Jumpsuit in a drawer, which is full of other flowers. This shows us that Tyler has tried to escape many times. We also see Tyler packing items into his pack from the blurryface era, his Red hat and his white sunglasses. This shows us that even when Tyler is attempting to escape Dema, he can't help but to keep a piece of it with him. As others have pointed out, the neon lights are a sort of symbol of the Bishops' "religion", they're bright, but they're lifeless. In this video, they're building a neon gravestone.
    When the banditos walk into Dema, we see everyone hiding from them, which represents the sort of brainwashing that happens to not want/to refuse help. Even Tyler tries to turn around when he sees them, but Josh reminds Tyler of hope with the handshake, and they have a little mini-concert to symbolize Tyler regaining his will to be creative on his own. The banditos lead Tyler back out to Trench.
    As for lyrics, I feel a lot of it makes more sense when you know about the world of Dema. One thing I want to point out specifically is the verse right after the big handshake. "force a sponsor
    And start a concert. A complete diversion Start a mob, and you can be quite certain We'll win, but not everyone will get out". This is in reference to the music video for Heathens, where the suicide squad sponsor was forced, and it's the first time we see the Bandito yellow. Tyler and Josh start a concert in a prison and everyone escapes, except for Tyler.

    At 3:30 you have a great point. We assume as fans that the order of the music videos goes as they were released ( jumpsuit, nico, levitate), but I feel that was just a misdirection by TøP to confuse us like they always do. So the order can be mixed up, and in regards to heavy dirty soul, I believe that is actually the ending as we see him close the trunk and walk away with his jumpsuit and finally accomplish what he set out to do, “ leave the city”.

    • @wouterhaumont4411
      @wouterhaumont4411 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This actually makes a lot of sense, but I don't think that the last part really fits. In 'leave the city' the lyrics ("in time, I will leave the city, for now I will stay alive) are basically suggesting that once you leave the city you die. We are sometimes tortured by our own thought, thus being in DEMA, but to think is to be alive as Tyler so wonderfully said in 'car radio'. So leaving the city means to stop thinking, and to stop thinking means no longer being alive

    • @SuffiReax
      @SuffiReax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly, this song felt like it should have been the opener introducing Dema and then Jumpsuit showing him having just escaped and being tempted back and then levitate showing how he is "surviving" and adjusting to this new place now that he and the banditos are out of Dema.

    • @bigshotz1240
      @bigshotz1240 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouter Haumont I get what you mean, and in many ways you are correct ( kitchen sink), but i feel that leave the city has another meaning. The city/dema represents the state of mid Tyler was in after Blurryface album/tour, in which he had a crisis of faith along with the usual anxiety and depression. I think him leaving the city means he will decide where he goes next as he mentioned before. Staying alive is in reference to keeping his faith alive which is only embers at the time of his writing.

    • @katstorm13
      @katstorm13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wouterhaumont4411 my interpretation of that line: the city of Dema is basically being in a state of depression. To leave the city means going to a better place where your mental health is better. "For now I will stay alive." As someone with depression, whether it's being full on depressed or in a state of apathy, we might not know which tools to use to get out, or have them and just not have the energy or feel ready to use them. So we aren't doing very well in regards to mental health, but we also aren't doing so poorly we want to commit suicide. So.."for now, I will stay alive."

  • @ericstockman7405
    @ericstockman7405 4 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    Yeah so this song is almost 100% about the story line - so obviously not having the background, most of the lyrics aren't going to make any sense
    one that could make sense that i've always liked is "I'm lighter when i'm lower, i'm higher when i'm heavy" - which to me means Tyler feels more like himself when he has lower self esteem or when he has his thoughts weighing him down
    As for the video..
    at the very beginning, you can hear the words are reversed, but they're saying (kind of like a hidden message):
    "We denounce Vialism
    You will leave Dema and head true east
    We are banditos"
    to explain that - "Vialism" is basically the religion in this city of Dema, that the Bishops promote. The idea of vialism is that they contain all your thoughts and feelings and control you - kind of like a light contains everything inside it (which is why you see so many lights) - Dema obviously is the city they're trapped in and to escape, you need to head east (that's why Tyler keeps saying "East is Up" in the lyrics) - the banditos are the "rebels" in the yellow trying to escape the city (Josh's crew)
    he's also saying "Dema don't control us" (not demons) - as in the city can't keep us trapped, we can escape
    as for the lights...
    the lights in Tyler's room are a replica of the "Towers of Silence" which you also see at the beginning of the video and towards the end - the city of Dema surrounds them - basically when you would commit suicide, your body would be picked apart by vulchers at the top of these towers (i think there is actually a real religion or former religion that actually believed something very similar to this)
    the neon lights that the bishops are dancing around are Neon Gravestones (obviously you've heard that song and know what it's about) - the bishops goal is to get you to commit suicide
    In a nutshell, in this video, Tyler wakes up in Dema and tries to escape, which he successfully does at the end - the last video will sort of be the celebration of his escape - the kids find the jumpsuit at the end with the yellow tape - which basically shows those kids (or younger generations) that there is a way to conquer your fears and there is hope

    Yes, they are vultures. You might have made the connection once you did the Levitate reaction.
    The flower is a callback to the Jumpsuit video, as you mentioned. The amount of flowers in the cabinet means the amount of times Tyler has escaped this place (Dema).
    The red dudes are Nico and the Niners. Also known as the bishops.
    The handshake is real. Even people that work with them on tours have learned it and used it. It's also a callback to their Stressed Out video.
    The line "we'll win but not everyone will get out" is in reference to the Heathens video. But yeah, he's basically referring to the banditos escaping Dema. But I also relate this with depression, and how some will "escape it" and some will not.
    Trench being a concept album, there's more songs that keep the story going.
    Morph
    Bandito
    Leave the City
    They will help you understand even more the story. And one of those songs actually has a line of something you said in this video.

    • @Chyno320

      @@SuffiReax yeah, so don't worry about not getting it at the first try. This took a lot (and I really mean A LOT) of replays and contribution from the fans to get what was going on in this videos.
      Probably the only difference was that we knew who Blurryface was, and that this place was Dema, but everything else was still very new to us and still struggled to figure things out at the beginning.
      Quite sure that if you do the other songs that I mentioned, you'll have a better understanding of where Tyler is going with the story.
      One thing that has not being mentioned is that this album is not as "popular" as the previous one (Blurryface) cause it doesn't have those catchy beats that allow them to be over played on the radio. You would think that after the huge success of their previous album they would cash in on that, but instead Tyler went in a different direction. This album was more for the fans than increasing their popularity.

    The place they re at is called Dema and it is ran by Neco and the niners...the nine bishops (in red) they re into vialism, and the people in yellow are the banditos trying to help those out of dema before the commit suicide...the bishops can't see yellow and it also signifies hope....after blurryface the went on hiatus for a few years after touring and before trench was released they left out clues to their return and we , the fans aka the clique, had to research on the web and figure it out..follow clues left by Clancy and much more...the "led" lights are neon gravestones because the bishops promote suicide if you will...Tyler and Josh are super creative...they started this trench idea at the end of blurryface ...if you notice in the heavy dirty soul video Josh's hair is yellow and his drums burning was a symbal of a new era.."trench" ...and in the heathens video which you have not yet watched...Tyler's jacket is yellow..that video was filmed after blurryface as well...levitate is next..anyway great reaction..and I hope this helps some..there is a lot more to it..and I m sure some fellow cliques will add to my explanation...

    Tidbits to ponder:
    Vulture ongoing theme
    (feeds on the dead)
    Tyler holds yellow (bishops can't see the color yellow) flower from end of Jumpsuit video and throws into drawer with more flowers, showing the never ending cycle of escaping and being recaptured?
    (possibly the many times he has lapsed back into mental state/depression, etc)
    Tyler puts his sunglasses and red beanie hat in his back pack - from Blurryface era and videos
    (Ride video)
    same handshake from Stressed Out music video
    As soon as Josh shows up Tyler is covered up by a jumpsuit
    It is said that the statue in courtyard looks a lot like Josh and the way he raises his hands at concerts (not sure about this one)
    Tyler's wife Jenna and his brother are in this video as Banditos

    They have constructed their own universe for this concept album and these music videos represent the continual battle against depression - the city he is in is called Dema, it is run by the nine bishops, he has tried to escape a number of times to trench, the banditos (with the yellow tape) are helping him to escape. The bishops (Nico/blurryface is the leader) try to control your thoughts and represent the dark side of the mental health battles that many people face and trying to get away from them. Back to Jumpsuit where Nico/Blurryface caught up with him yet again and took him back to Dema. Short explanation and there was a whole set of cryptic clues released by them in the lead up to this album, had the whole clique turning into detectives trying to figure it all out!

  • @bigshotz1240

    Us a clique try to explain what happened in the 3 music videos, but we really have only a slight grasp on it. The next album will explain the cliffhanger ending to all 3 of the videos with a series of new videos. We are left with a convoluted middle and beginning right now, but no ending for us to complete this jigsaw.

    Here's my 2 cents. Tyler & co created their own mythology or morality tale & while many fans dig deep & research & formulate theories or spot every Easter egg, some people (myself) just let the art be art. I don't need a detailed explanation, I enjoy the songs, the videos, the story that I see & just let it be that. Awesome, visually & lyrically stunning, and I don't need someone to explain the allegory for me.

    Good video as always. It's totally understandable that you didn't get most of it considering how packed with lore it is lol. The other commenters have done a good job of explaining most of it and if you want to know more, you could check out the dmaorg website or some of the summary videos on the whole story. I agree with the fact that the setting (Dema) is reminiscent of dystopian totalitarian governments and I believe that was intentional (for example, there are subtle references made to George Orwell's 1984 in this song).

    This is the hardest of them all to understand without back info - I’m sure most of us were confused at first! If you really look at it all these trilogy videos can be played in any order in reality. As you saw in heavy dirty soul it’s a cycle. The start of jumpsuit he says the bit about being asleep time to wake up, during the ‘hiatus’ he took between blurry face & trench they actually did all this secret hidden stuff through their website with all the back information to the whole Dema world for fans to find. This is what he meant by we’ve been here the whole time. This is the info needed to really follow the themes throughout Trench. if you look back to where he put the flower in his drawer you can see more flowers already in there, showing that he’s attempted to escape multiple times and failed. which can be a metaphor for trying to escape his thoughts on a daily basis, just like how he’s back in the car at the end of heavydirtysoul.
    something that i personally find interesting about the lyrics is how he refers to “up” and “down.” down means below ground which is how he and the resistance escape the city. which is why he feels “lighter” or more comfortable when he’s lower. up means above ground which is in the city. which is why he feels heavy when he’s higher and why his jumpsuit (as in a prison jumpsuit) is “on steady.”
    A song called Morph off the same album says “above is blind belief and under is sword to sleeve and ‘around’ is a scientific miracle” because you physically cannot go around an enclosed wall if youre inside of it. just something i thought was cool. i love watching your reactions btw

    I would really want you to react to some of songs from the album "regional at best" but the songs allways get claimed by werner music witch is a shame because they are very good. But i think you totaly sure react to some of the songs from "twenty one pilots" album some people call it "self titled" songs from that album really give the whole twenty one pilots type of songs more then any other album hence the name

    About dema, vultures and the towers at dema...look up zoroastriam, a very old religion in i think it was persia. They had "towers of silence" and when the people died they put the body on the tower for the vultures to leave just the bones..for religous purposes. So "towers of silence" is a real thing and the vultures. I think zoroastrianism eventually died out...not sure..but there's that connection you might want to check out.

    Um yeah Tench the album is all to do with a storyline that comes from the previous album Blurryface. I'm sure they have already explained but honestly outsiders will always have a bit of hard time following this album. This album was all for their fans...true fans....skeleton clique 😍
