Matt and Ken, Thanks so much for your work. I'm a Protestant and have been looking into the basis for reformed doctrines for several months now. I keep returning to your series. Your methodical articulation of so many fundamental issues in a precise, biblical, graceful manner has really blown me away.

Matt/Ken, I have been with y'all from the beginning of the 'On the Journey' series! I completely agree... viewers can not just simply jump into this without going back and watching prior videos... I myself have gone back to see what y'all said a second & third time on many topics. Many of these comments I read bear this out. Y'all need to go back and watch from the beginning before submitting your critiques. What is sad is many of these comments ironically agree with the Church in regards to faith and good works. Honestly, if they would only go back and watch your earlier videos they would see this! They could also read the Catechism of the Catholic Church... My Protestant Brothers/Sisters, I promise you won't catch on fire, if you buy the catechism. I didn't when I was on the journey into the Church. Read what the Church actually says about justification... I listened to my Pastors (Charitably may I add) disseminate false teachings of the Catholic Church's doctrines for almost 30 years. Finally, I decided I would actually take "Ad Fontes" seriously. What did the Church have to say for herself? What did the early Church have to say?? Once you do this, you are already on your way out of Protestantism.... It may not be the Catholic Church you find. You may think its Orthodox , but it certainly wasn't my Baptist brethren speaking to me through these wonderful letters and homilies (sermons) to the early Church. Peace be with you!

The healing miracles in the gospels also involve a combination of faith and action - when Christ says, “Your faith has made you well,” he is responding to a combination of trust and a humble, physical approach by the one seeking healing.

Mat n Ken, what if Martin Luther having lived and believed he was unworthy and by doing all the penances and mortifications still felt like God was not satisfied with him, he became disillusioned and thus wanted to denounce any works as a way to earn salvation only because he'd tried and felt like he had failed? It feels like his understanding fell short and he'd given himself fully to punishing himself in hopes that that would be pleasing to God and when no satisfaction came from that, he turned on the idea of works and salvation by faith alone was his only out!

The problem for me with being Protestant was I had no foundation to keep me in Christ. It is easy to be a part of the world and claim to be a Christian because, well, you are saved forever. So you can sin and just ask for forgiveness every day. There’s no real reason to go to church. You can watch church on tv. Because my heart wasn’t fully given to Christ, I was miserable, but I couldn’t stand going to church. I hate loud music and young preachers in skinny jeans that you never ever meet. You can find smaller more personable Protestant churches, but I was never able to commit myself to going. I prayed about this fervently before we found the Catholic Church. I would’ve never ever thought I would love the Catholic Church. I had never stepped foot in one until my husband out of the blue just went one Sunday morning. It was an answer to my prayers. At first, I had a bad attitude about it. I went with him eventually because he kept asking. I had no clue what was happening. Then I decided to start reading about it, beginning with the book Catholicism for Dummies, and I was amazed. A hunger developed in my heart for the Eucharist. Long story short, we are Catholics today and absolutely love Mass. It has grounded me in Christ, FINALLY! Catholic teaching is incredibly rich. So much now makes sense to me that didn’t when I was Protestant. Actually, I was confused a lot as a Protestant because I believed various teachings from different denominations. I could never figure out what church to go to. So I give glory to God for leading us to the Church. Jesus is my life and love and that is what Mass and being Catholic is all about.

My question is as being a Catholic is that what does it mean to have belief in God,does it mean only one thing or two things or three things and that’s all there is to have a full belief in Jesus and his one true church or does believing consist of many many things taught by Jesus and his Apostles and the apostles successors in order to learn and understand of what helps a person to do in order to be saved

  • @johnchung6777
    @johnchung6777 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah it all so truthful that obedience is all important to serve and please God,because obedience helps a person understand and fulfill the commandments laws and precepts of God through Love because when you truly love someone you would not want to do any thing bad evil or wrong so that’s what love for God does for a person who loves and fears God,because you would not want to offend him,but even if or when we offend God by committing sins we have Jesus in the sacrament of confession and penance who works through his Bishop or Priest in his Church to forgive us our sins now that’s infinite and eternal mercy yeah yeah yeah

Real faith leads to good works through the power of the Holy Spirit in us, which is faith in Christ who nailed the mosaic law (Leviticus laws) to the Cross. We now can know God through the risen Christ and the Holy Spirit and he writes his law (Ten Commandments, Christ Jesus’s commandments) on our hearts. The kind of works Paul is mentioning is works without faith in Christ, but in self-righteousness and works of the Mosaic law (Leviticus laws) without the Holy Spirit.

A Roman Catholic Bishop recently sad that a sincere practicing atheist of goodwill can be saved. This is NOT the Gospel. While going on about the problems with faith alone, this convert to Catholicism in this video has one of his own bishops saying that explicit faith in Christ is not needed for salvation. You don’t even need to believe in Christ or that God even exists. So an atheist can be saved but we have to do something about those terrible people teaching that faith in Christ is necessary. That is truly amazing. This goes against statements made by countless popes and church councils through the centuries. Robert Barron when asked during a recent televised interview the question “who can be saved?”, responded with a false gospel: “The Catholic view-go back to the Second Vatican Council [which] says it very clearly. Christ is the privileged route to salvation. God so loved the world He gave His only Son that we might find eternal life, so that’s the privileged route. However, Vatican II clearly teaches that someone outside the explicit Christian faith can be saved. Now, they’re saved through the grace of Christ indirectly received, so the grace is coming from Christ. But it might be received according to your conscience. So if you’re following your conscience sincerely-or, in your case, you’re following the commandments of the Law sincerely-yeah, you can be saved. Now, that doesn’t conduce to a complete relativism. We still would say the privileged route-the route that God has offered to humanity-is the route of His Son. But, no, you can be saved. Even, Vatican II says, an atheist of good will can be saved.” The belief that someone can by saved today without explicit faith in Christ is called inclusivism. Barron does a good job laying out the inclusivist position-a position taught by the Roman Catholic Church. Unfortunately, Bishop Barron doesn’t give any biblical support for the view.

I don’t understand why this is such a debate among Catholic Churches. (I’ve been attending Catholic Church.) I grew up Protestant and am attending a well known faith-based university.
According to my own studies. Salvation is a gift from God. (Says that in the Bible).
God does not go back on his gifts or promises.
    (Says this in the Bible.)
A man is saved by faith alone and not of works. Because no man should boast and no man’s works will ever be good enough to obtain salvation. However, faith in God should produce works. (Says this in the Bible).
    So….. I mean…. Why the stretch?

Mongo Moon. Appreciate the fact that you tried to quote Ephesians 2 properly, but dear brother-in-Christ, I implore you to please consider re-reading it and not only include verses 8 & 9 as you did, but please include the very next verse, verse 10, So that the fullness of the message is Ephesians 2:8-10. It is NOT faith alone, as when you re-read it you will see that it does not use the word alone but you will realize that it includes the works that God, by His grace, puts in front of us to cooperate with His grace...so the works we do out of love for God and our neighbor, as we are commanded by Jesus to do, are not our works but God's works. God remains sovereign and gets the glory and in this way Paul and James (James 2:24) do not contradict each other. And this is all in harmony with the fact that the Bible says over 24 times that we are judged by our deeds/works. Those works are initiated by God but we must cooperate by our free will to come in line with God's will in a loving obedience. (Please see Galatians 5:4-6) Faith must express itself through love. I will end by saying that one cannot have love without free will.
May God bless! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

Salvation is a gift from God, but gifts not opened and used are just brightly colored packages left under your Christmas tree. You have to use that which has been given.
Jesus is the vine, I am a branch, the sap (the free gift, the grace, the power of God Himself) is what causes me to bear fruit. My salvation is dependent on my allowing the Holy Spirit to work through me. As Jesus stated, if a branch doesn’t bear fruit, if I don’t use the free gift, He does in fact actually take it away, as I will be cut off and burned.
If I bury my talent instead of using it to increase, I’m cast out and what I received is given to another.
I have nothing to boast of because nothing I’ve actually done while abiding in Christ was powered by me, it’s all Him. He did it through me. I just allowed it. Without Him I am the most wretched of sinners, but with Him, I can be a Saint. I can be a Joan of Arc, I can be a Saint Francis of Assisi, I can be a Saint Paul, I can be a Saint Stephen, I can be like Christ.
Salvation and sanctification are one thing, you must have both. I am saved through my sanctification by Gods grace and I am sanctified because God has determined to save me because I consented to being saved.

      Christ be with you
I do not think salvation is a gift from God is in the bible.
I think God Grace is a gift form God and Eternal life is a gift from God are in the bible.
it is a gift we can forfeit and we do not blame God for those who turn the backs on it
The forfeit it by returning to sin, that's in the bible too.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
*Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death,* or of obedience unto righteousness? (rom 6:15-20)
St Paul tells us Faith is not alone but protestants do not seem to listen.
Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. (Rom 3:31)
The things you say are not in the bible.
We are saved by Grace. (Eph 2:8-10)
We must good works to recieve eternal life (Gal 6:7-9)
I really think you should read the bible not just build your theology around twisted proof text so you can find out why there is debate

John, if you don't believe in the Real Presence within the Eucharist, you most likely have already left the Church that Christ established, regardless of where you spend your Sundays. And I don't say this to drive you away faster, knowing there is an extraordinary number of folks in Catholic pews who don't believe the Bread and Wine can become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
Let me just ask you three questions. First, do you agree that God could do this is He wanted? Second, why would He allow the Church to operate with this belief for 1500 years if it weren't true? Third, why would St. Paul have written that anyone who receives the bread unworthily (without 'discerning' the Body, as he mentions in 1 Corinthians 11:29), brings judgments upon himself?
