I read a comment elsewhere about Strange and it really opened my eyes. "This song is basically about capitalism (which both Yoongi and Namjoon have expressed opinions on in the past). Basically its how our economic and political system works. You have to work to get money to live, and people are slaves because they live to work. Society tells you to dream but its just a way to make you want to get a job (they explain this in the BTS song Paradise). They are saying they are still subject to this even when becoming wealthy, they have been in the position of being lower class (poor) and they thought they would escape when becoming rich and famous but they still feel trapped by the system. People think once you're wealthy you escape the trap and you are privileged and many people hate rich people for this reason, the song is saying that things are not that simple anymore."
It wasn't clear to me at first like I had the feeling he was coming for that form of economy but then when the song mentioned about being a 'slave to the system' and how it's split rich/poor I was like yup he's definitely talking about capitalism.

I want to add after reading better translations of the song that my interpretation is a bit different now. Its not really talking about how them and rich people struggling, but rather that we are all part of the system whether we make a lot of money or not and its strange that some people make a lot while others dont. The song is also about opposing views on right and wrong, good and evil.

Honestly anytime you hear a girl's voice in the back, front or side to side, it's most likely Adora's. She's one of the BigHit household producers and a Yoongi favorite (hence why you hear a girl harmonizing with him on SO MANY tracks i.e. Seesaw). She's stacked up so much producing and engineering credit that a lot of the fans know her as the "IT girl" in bighit 😊
The whole mixtape is so so so solid. Honestly, it shows how long Yoongi has worked on it. All of the songs slap, but 28 has to be at the top for me, followed with Dear My Friend, which is so fcking sad, starting a path with someone only for you to end up at the top and your friend, the person you started with, in prison, that only shows how fickle destiny is.

Ngl this is the first time ive heard a semi-conscious-themed (let alone a mixtape/album) album that also calls out on a lot of bs in the industry in quite a while from idols/groups. Mad props to Yoongi (hope this gets some recognition in any award show)
I don't really reccomend color coded lyrics, their lyrics are usually full of mistakes because they try to get the video as soon as possbile. Bangtan translations and doolset are better translations
I listened to the album without subs and I knew dear my friend was so deep then when I found out the lyrics 😪😪 I was going thru it major ways🥺 this whole album was so good honestly
21:23 yeah sometimes seeing some goodness in a person isn’t enough when you’re giving so much to help them but they’re no longer the same. We may all want to live in the lime light but when it comes back to it, we just all want to be normal and live comfortably without constant fear and worry about what might happen in our lives. "dear my friend" is a song about an ex friend of yoongi, this friend went to prison for drug addiction, yoongi visited him every week, even though the trip was 3 hours long, when his friend went out of prison, yoongi went to see him again. his friend asked him 'do you want to try **?' which i'm assuming was a drug. at that moment yoongi realized his friend wasn't the same anymore, got angry and shouted at him for offering him drugs, even after being in prison and going through hell because of it. yoongi asks himself what would have happened if he had stopped his friend that day, before his friend tried drugs. they aren't friend anymore, and even though yoongi hates him, he still misses him, so this isn't a song about how he hates him it's more about him looking back on the memories he had with his friend. for me it's the saddest song in the mixtape.

i don't know if you saw the vlive suga/yoongi did this week he said that one of the song's original takes was so full of rage that he thinks army and those who listened to it would be surprised. He re-edit it and after time the lyrics changed. He said he no longer has any rage in him and that he is currently in a good place. --this is not exact quote just a summary. This let's me think how much emotion and self discovery for the creation of this album he went through. Glad to have his stories in song and I am glad he is in a better emotional and mental state now.

i don't know if you saw the vlive suga/yoongi did this week he said that one of the song's original takes was so full of rage that he thinks army and those who listened to it would be surprised. He re-edit it and after time the lyrics changed. He said he no longer has any rage in him and that he is currently in a good place. --this is not exact quote just a summary. This let's me think how much emotion and self discovery for the creation of this album he went through. Glad to have his stories in song and I am glad he is in a better emotional and mental state now.
