I already know this video is gonna be a ten outta tentacle!
Hay its Andrew Davis you come for the solo challenge and end up staying solely for the puns
@@eeveestars3668 That’s my style. Making people laugh when they don’t want to. I call it reluctant comedy.
@@AndrewDavis2112 Truly a visionary in our time.
Booooo!
Quick sidenote, I appreciate the fact that you let the pokemon evolve at the end of their struggle. They have fought long and hard and deserve it. And it feels like something is missing if they don't get to evolve.
Giovanni be like: *Only uses guard spec*
Also Giovanni: “Ha! That was a truly intense fight.” 💀
I've been dealing with extremely excessive stress in my life over the past year, and the only way I can get myself to sleep is watching Pokemon videos because it soothes me and makes me think of my childhood Pokemon Yellow days on my clear purple game boy color (simpler times). Your videos are perfect because you have a very calming voice and don't fake enthusiasm/raise your voice more than necessary, you are just your genuine self. Also your PP jokes crack me up every time. Very grateful I found your channel, I probably watched all your videos 2-3 times over the past 6 months and they make me sleep like a baby away from all the stress every time, thank you for that Scott
That's great to hear! I agree his voice and being genuine is why he's the only poketuber I watch. Very professionally done too.
I have his Clefable vs Wigglytuff video on my nightly sleep playlist.
It helps *so much.*
Same. I sleep to Scott's Thoughts a lot too. He's well structured, says interesting things, with a good voice, patient editing and a calm atmosphere.
Ok but literally. Same. Here. This channel and others like it literally give me comfort and peace as I try to sleep and it’s the highlight of my day when their videos come out. Honestly thank you Scott!
Same here! You are not alone! I hope you are doing better! Cheers from Portugal!
Recently discovered your channel Scott… never thought I’d ever find a content creator to out-jrose jrose. Keep up the incredible work!
Well I’m glad you’re enjoying my stuff.
Loving how all the iconic trainers have a "trainer representative" in the bottom right screen. Shout out to the self destructing hiker.
I just wanted to let you know that I found Jrose, then Muh-Dry-Bread, then you, then from your video Vanman, and enjoy all of the Pokemon challenge runs, but your videos are my favorite to listen to. Your scripts and speech patterns really make your videos the easiest to listen to at work (sorry I don't watch, so I don't know whose video editing is best ha ha). If every early generation challenge runner puts out a video at the same time of the same Pokemon, Scott's Thoughts is always my first choice to view. Keep up the good work!
Scott's editing is by far the best. The Quality is outstanding.
Agree, scripting speech and editing is by far best at Scott's channel.
Scott has put A TON of work into his editing and video formatting. And he keeps improving it. I'd strongly recommend watching it sometime.
Scott, I have watched every video of yours. I love your content. It's so straightforward and simple, but it's also everything inside the inner child in me dreams of.
Scott lulls me to sleep most nights, no joke. It's an interesting enough topic to me that I think about it instead of what's on my mind, but it's familiar enough that I don't think too hard.
@@bradlauk1419 I also use Scott's videos to help with sleeping or doing chores for those exact reasons, but also watching his most latest videos are also good to just wind down to as well.
Love all the little animations you add to the Pokémon sprites on the side -- its a nice touch!
That feeling when you see yourself in the description of the video before it premiers. I've been wanting to redo a lot of my old runs but I can't wait to get to Tentacruel. The stats for gen 1 are never talked about but it has some crazy ones. I'm interested to see if you stuck with Barrier because my biggest mistake was swapping to Sword's Dance and struggling in the E4.
I'm excited for you to see this one! I should probably add your Tentacool video to the description too. Will do that now.
Ps. Barrier is very good!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I would say my older ones are cringey but I’m sure everyone thinks that. I watched your Hitmonchan and Butterfree videos the other day while working on a script lol.
You guys happily discussing your runs with each other is the most wholesome thing I've seen all day. Love both your channels!
Ayyy
Glm in da house
Fun Fact: pineapples don't grow on trees but right above the ground in a sort of bush haha
Tentacool's second playthrough was amazing, keep up the great work and I looking forward for other second playthrough with Pokémon who miss them ❤
True. Exeggcutor is actually based on the watermelon tree.
Wait, really?
@@KainaX122 yep blew my mind as well
@@UlimativeDunkelheit what’s blowing my mind is whether there’s ACTUALLY a type of tree called a ‘watermelon tree’ or if this other guy is just trolling
Oh watermelons grow like pumpkins, right on the cold hard ground
I was excited to see a lot of unusual moves showcased here, like acid, cut, and toxic. It's interesting to have such a great special stat paired with low-power moves.
Absolutely loved this video, especially because of the tentacool expressions and that fairy type venomoth art!
For the Algorithm!
I think the channeler with two gastly is worthy of getting their own art like the self destructing hiker. I find it really fun when regular NPCs who are consistantly an issue get that treatment, and I feel that channeler is tough for mons who struggle to hit ghosts (and tentacool aparently hehe). Plus I think Serena's take on them could be wonderful~
Agreed. More cute art is always welcome.
15 minutes in "Scott's making great time!" *checks the video length* "Oh, not for long."
Dude, 100 special? That's amazing haha. Can't wait for Horsea, Seadra was always one of my fav underused mons. Then there was Kingdra . . .
Tentacruel has 120 Special and 100 Speed. I never used it, but it seems to be absolutely amazing.
And yeah, Horsea should be really solid.
Wow there is literally nothing better than starting my day while listening to one of your uploads. I’m finally at the point where I’ve gotten through your back catalogue of videos so now I only get to do this when you upload something new. Meaning today was a good day 😉
Hey Andrew, thanks so much for leaving this comment. I really appreciate it
Another amazing video! Didn't think the second playthrough would be such a breeze. What a cool little jellyfish.
dang the jellyfish surprised me. Thanks for your good content scott! Keep it up. I love this series so much^^
I cant even get through a whole video without wanting to play pokemon😂 been subscribed for awhile now, watched almost all your videos man. You’re my favorite youtuber at this time
Oh my gosh, I love the art of the Tentacool forming a fist with its tentacle and punching the other one. That is the most 'bring it on' pose I've seen in a while.
Scott, you are such a respectful, genuine dude. god i appreciate you a lot man. so cool of you to keep other creators/friends in mind like you shared with us
Thanks for the comment Jack! I value those qualities so I’m glad they come through in the videos.
Tentacool after that first Oak battle: ""Use Barrier against Tauros!" Scott said to me. "You will be fine!" he said to me."
The whole 'I didn't want to do the thing another youtuber did' is honestly so weirdly nice, like I love when stuff like that happens.
Scott out of context: "could acid be the answer?" 🤣
Tombstoner brother. Thanks for giving Matt a shoutout bro!
Happy to spread the word about other awesome creators!
An extremely underrated set of pokemon. I cannot WAIT
I just love your narration. Keep at it Scott!
Thanks so much Dan
Excellent video, as always! I'm really impressed with how well it did in the second round.
It’s always so wild to see how optional trainer battles still manage to pull out a faster time over the playthrough without optional battles. Well optimized Scott!
I love that you ended it by evolving him!!! So wholesome!!! : ))
Scott in nidoran run "I wont make any promises anymore" scott here "horsea is next :D"
Was recorded before I wrote Nidoran.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon why do you not release them in the order of recording? It seems so weird holding back a finished vid. Is it just because of the promises in the past?
I try to watch your vids here even though I support you on Patreon just to boost your videos. Your content remains great. You make my days better with your vids! Thank you :) AHHH MONO FAIRY VENOMOTH SO WHOLESOME.
I do the same thing for the algorithm
Tentacool is such an adorable pokemon, and with your custom animations it was even more adorable ☺️.
That run was really thought thorough, and you've improved the results of your first run so much. Thanks for trying the super troll strat of toxic and leach seed, even if it didn't get to job done for the champion fight.
While watching you fish for the freeze, I thought you would resort to use rage, to express that frustration of getting walled at the champion fight 😂. The slow growth rate is an issue when it comes to solo runs, even though Tantacool is a great pokemon for gen 1 and even in general. 🤔You've made Cool very proud of you👏👏👏☺️. Good job!
By the way these bloopers are never getting old, I always find it to be one of the best moments in your runs, and they always make me lough so hard while I do tedious stuff. So thanks for always making them, they're awesome. 😁
By the way, don't underestimate the of rage, because it can give you badge boost, with an awful price, of only using your attack stat. But, it can help somehow if you need other extra badge boost because you've leveled up at the middle of battle. 😊
This video could not be more tenti-cool! Keep up the great content
Anyone would think tentacool would be a "Cool" experience for being a water type, but that poison type and low late level up is just "Cruel"
Yay! Back to regular uploads and brightening up Fridays!
Was expecting some swords dance/wrap or toxic/wrap shenanigans, didn't leave dissapointed. Great job!
Whew, an exciting amount of customization and optimization. The testing was really neat and all of the strategies worked out rather flawlessly.
Also I'm always glad to see Oak give you a run for your money, even with full set up Exeggutor and Venusaur created a lot of problems.
This series is so good. I listen to it while in bed and it reminds me of Pokémon red
First time I'm vatching a premiere of yours! Wooohh!
Especially early bug love! c:
Thanks for the content. Its smooth and relaxing.
You're welcome Ryan :)
This run was sweet. Surprised at how well you managed to mitigate the Poison typing, especially once you revealed slow growth rate too!
_'A Charity Kinesis!"_ Good one Scott, yeah... that was a good one!
I really enjoyed the moveset experimentation for the champion this video!
I have to say, I've watched a few of your videos now, but I think your overlay is amazing. There's a ton of dead space with these videos because of the GBA aspect ratio, but you're using it to the fullest. Nice job man 😎
Thanks Adam! Glad you like it :)
I love your videos so much. I look forward to them every week. I just want you to know that
Beating Alakazam with Wrap and Surf is so in-character for Tentacool
I love when the pokemon gets to evolve at the end! They worked hard for it!
Gym Leader Matt: Certified Cool dude
Got to love watching these videos keep up the good work!
I just love seeing all the love and support we are throwing at this channel. Well deserved to say the least.
I just did this run for fun, and when i heard you say you could finish the run under an hour 20, but hadn't fought the champion yet I knew you were in for pain. It took me forever to get past him after almost minimal resets in the rest of the game. His team was just so well set up to face tentacool. My ending move pool was ice beam, surf, barrier, and swords dance and I had to fish for a freeze on one of the early pokemon in his team to complete the setup. Incredibly frustrating last trainer, but deeply rewarding. Just wanted to say I feel your pain on that one but misery also loves company haha
I told ya Tentacool would be sick. I think it's a real underappreciated gem of a Pokemon, especially when it evolves. While it may seem weird it has the slow growth rate, Tentacruel's stats in this generation are so good I think it might even be warranted. 120 Special! 100 Speed! Bonkers for a Pokemon no one bats at eye at.
Horsea...well it might end up being a little better than Seel. You do get Agility after all. But Horsea definitely is going to suffer in similar ways to Seel, outside of having a more inverted early game.
At least Horsea gets Smokescreen?
No one bat's an eye at Tentacruel? It's the undisputed king of RBY UU in competitive Pokemon.
@@glitchedoom I more meant in the casual sense. I actually knew that fact, but the amount of people who know how Generation I's meta works is fairly small and any meta outside of OU is incredibly niche.
Tentacool and Tentacruel are just Pokemon you constantly run into in the water and pass by.
i love the small tentacool drawings, they're very cute
also, all hail the dome fossil
I wish that they’d give you horsea as a starter or early on. I love that Pokémon!
I feel like there is a theme with pokemon that appear later in a normal playthrough having really good stats for first stage, but also generally having a slow level growth
That was a cool tent
Found your videos a month or so ago really enjoyed your content 😊
Also I predict horsea will be similar to tentacool, probably slightly better
I need to watch your older video to find out about the Venomoth typing!! On a side note I would love to see a Mono Fairy Venomoth as regional form.
Gym Leader Matt is indeed a Tenta-cool dude, I’ve talked to him several times via comments and watch pretty much all his challenge vids alongside Scott, MahDryBread and JRose
I think Mega drain should have been kept. Hear me out. Most of the final gauntlet has a lot of pokemon weak to grass. Lorelei's pokemon, a chunk of bruno's, and even Blue's team to name some examples. You can replace rest with Mega Drain for the champ fight, half it's team, not counting the eeveelution are would make for good "rest" points in that fashion. Sometimes, the "weaker" move can prove to have more potential.
Edit for anecdote to help illustrate point:
Once, for fun, I did a Scyther Only run on Crystal. It was certainly an interest run and had a more casual approach to it, but when I got to red. I beat him with only Fury Cutter. That move is a lot better than what people give it credit for.
Tentacruel was always my go-to water Mon in Gen 1. Glad to see Tentacool save face with that second play through. That has to be one of the biggest improvements between a first and second play through on your channel, no?
Yoooo so fun!! Literally just did a tentacruel run, let my lil buddy evolve. It was fantastic with barrier and swords dance. Tentacruel ended with Blizzard, Surf, Swords Dance, and Hyper Beam
I've been revisiting your old vids during a stressful time in my life, and Christ, I'm just so impressed. Like I don't want to name names, but the quality of your editing, and your feel for what makes interesting content, both to watch and create, are so high, it's so impressive. You've ruined me for other poketubers.
Tentacool is fuckin rad. In later gens it becomes more of a special wall, but here it's just a bit of a beast. It's interesting how the big weakness is actually a benefit at koga of all gyms lmao. Very complicated learnset on this bad boy, cool to see you go through all the options.
Finally I'll leave you with this suggestion. In the same vein that removing the garbage puzzle in surges gym functions to remove a bad part of the game but ultimately makes better content, even as it's a less 'pure' experience, for nuzlockes I highly recommend you hack in infinite rare candies. I remember you saying you found them super fun, but time consuming. This (partially) solves this issue. It may be less pure, but grinding is not interesting to play or watch in a nuzlocke context, rare candying is totally worth it.
Sigh, not the Rare Candy argument…
I will likely use candies for Nuzlockes and turn off stat experience.
So the gameplay is good, the commentary is engaging, but I'mma be honest, I show up for the animations of the mons, and how their emotions change depending on the circumstances. Happy tentacool best tentacool.
Tentacruel will always have a soft spot in my heart. My first ever play through of Pokémon red had some kind of chest code on it where I had like 50 master balls and a Ratana with surf. Because of this I accidentally went the wrong way to start the game. It was confusing and super hard but the tentacruel I caught carried me through the entire game until I got mewtwo.
Glad to see a poison type do well even if its mostly because its water typing lol
Ok so here's why you've become my favorite in the challenge poketube space. I'm ADHD as well. I can feel the "oh shit" attention lapse misclicks contrasted with the hyperfocus passion you put into the structure of your runs--the real-time stat display, the optimization and reruns, the scripting... that shows decades of being really, REALLY into something that I can seriously identify with
I’m glad you can relate. Sometimes I’m so frustrated about the mistakes that constantly happen haha. Especially after decades of obsession and hyper focus! Im glad you’re enjoying the videos! I love making them.
I can tell! Appreciate your openness about how your experience is impacted by it--I like when we can demonstrate to the world that this isn't just the can't-sit-still-disease... and especially that if you give us the space, we'll find our success.
Tentacool is the second best pokemon in rby 7U tier alongside Charmeleon, so it's technically better than mons like Farfetch'd, Golbat, Rhyhorn, Beedrill and Ivysaur, so I honestly think it's pretty underrated on its own
And Tentacruel is really good in UU from what I've heard.
@@shytendeakatamanoir9740 always has been
Well not in generations it's banned in UU, that is.
To explain badge boost for the uninitiated. In gen 1 and 2, 4 badges boost a stat 12.5% (gen 3 10%, mechanic removed in gen 4). In gen 1 specifically, there is a bug that causes all the badge boosts to apply again whenever your stats change stage (from moves or Xitems). However, when you level up and your base stats change, this triggers stat calculations to be run from scratch, resetting the badge boosts to the unglitched 12.5% again.
Additional trivia about badge boost glitch: the stacks are based on number of changes, not the severity of the change. A +2 attack stage from swords dance applies the same badge boost as a -1 accuracy from sand attack. Badge boosts do not cap at +6 like stat change stages do.
Pretty good run! That slow growth rate really hindered it, but having a water typing is great, and wrap really helped with brock!
I can't believe surge just rolled over and died all on his own despite *actually* using thunderbolt on a super effective target
This video is gonna be a very TentaCOOL, calm, and relaxed one.
You're the Wrapping Lass now!
Nice playthtough ! When I was a kid I round Tentacool and its evolution quite good
9:08 Omg Angry Slowpoke. I’m loving it, thanks for asking for a Slowpoke commission
One day there will be custom art for every Pokémon!!
I'm excited to have a video from my favorite challenge runner on my birthday
Leach Seed / Toxic is my favorite combo of first generation.
It blew my mind when I discovered it as a kid.
When i played yelow my Ivysaur had leech seed , mega drain, toxic and vine whip
Lt. Surge at it again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
Horseeeeeeeeeeeea!
Who's excited for that cute little cannon-nosed baby sea dragon?
This guy.
I’m very proud of you. Idk why maybe the channel maybe the girlfriend/fiancée or maybe it dosnt even matter. All I know is that this guy is definitely.
Shoutout to Serena! What beautiful artworks those are 😍
Tentacool in sunglasses looks like it's gonna steal your girl ... wait
19:13 "Because I'm a Psychic Type, it's gonna spam rest"
Didn't know we were doing a Venomoth run.
So Girlfriend has evolved into Fiance? Congratulations Scott. Having watched your videos since your Gen 1 Beedrill run, I've been doing my own personal solo runs for giggles. You've managed to get over 44,000 people to subscribe to your channel. Clearly this means the average TH-cam viewer has no taste. Keep up the good work, and don't stop having fun. :)
If I ever won millions scott. I'd fly you to my house and you'd be my pokemon yellow running guy just sitting there playing in the background for my amusement.
Venusaur: what do you think I am, some multi type moth!? Of course I do good!!
Soct: dewgong will use rest b/c I'm a psychic type.
43:11 "supersonic might very well be the least consistent move before dynamicpunch was introduced"
Horn drill: am i a joke to you?
Ok but that move only needs to hit once to get the job done, meanwhile Supersonic needs to hit and then pass up to 5(?) checks per infliction to even be helpful. So I would say Horndrill is the better bet if you have a choice to make.
time for aCooltent to shine
Eijooooooooo Scott ftw! Greetings from Saarland!
U know Saarland Mr. Scott? 🤔
The Status Jr. Trainer should totally have a sketch where she has a belt of perfume spray bottles x3, except they're obviously the different Powders
Commenting for the algorithm :)
I know it's minor but I really love the celebration animation for tentacool once the Brock fight is finished. Makes this pokemon I hated as a kid seem not nearly as annoying and almost endearing in a way. Something that never ceases to amaze me at gen 1 is how blatantly lopsided movepools for certain types are compared to others. Poison and bug types get absolutely shafted where the most powerful moves are sludge and pin missile respectively. Compared to water, fire, or psychic types that get hydropump, surf, flamethrower, fire blast, psychic, etc.
12:03 - Tentacool's typing makes Petal Dance neutral, so typing isn't saving it. Just its high special stat.
I think he meant that Tentacool could be a pure water type, but the poison type saved it from having a super effective hit
Scott sent us all to Tenta-school
Thanks Scott for the fun
tentacruel is the king of gen 1 uu. fun vid man
I absolutely love Tentacool and Tentacruel, they are absolutely beasts, but they really are annoying to grind up. I think this run also really reflects on how good they are, but how they do struggle against psychic types. Keep up the great work!
I do wanna say that I like to look a bunch at the movesets and mimic can make that a bit annoying due to it not changing on the moveset top left. I don’t know exactly if they moveset gets edited in or if it, just like the stats, gets update while playing, but if it’s in editing I’d love to see mimic change to the move that you’ve mimicked
This was the highlight of an otherwise terrible day for me
I love Tentacool! Such a unique Pokémon!
8:40 -- I can totally imagine this being an "Anime" moment. In the Anime, Lieutenant Surge was an arrogant prick who assumed he was better than his opponents based purely on their Pokemon choice against his Raichu, and the Raichu was equally an arrogant prick as well. So upon seeing you use an abundantly common water-type Pokemon against his Riachu, he probably mocked your "trainer" skills and assumed he OHKOed your Tentacool after the very first Thunderbolt without even bothering to check whether it was still conscious or not. As a result, Raichu's follow-up "Growl" was simply a victory-cry, assuming that the battle was already over. Thrown off-guard by the fact that the Tentacool was still able to battle, Raichu hastily responded by attempting to kick it. After missing, Lieutenant Surge assumed that the reason Raichu missed is because it isn't fast enough. So he attempts to use an item on Raichu, only for Tentacool to use that opportunity to snipe Raichu from behind for the kill. This entire battle literally felt like Surge and Raichu assumed the fight was over after just the first move. Their underestimation of Tentacool cost them the victory! If Surge and Raichu had been playing smart, they would have simply spammed Thunderbolt until your Tentacool was turned into fish food...
Tentacle got the drip 🏅🎖🕶
ShEEEEEEEsh
