    1. Only my starter in battle
    2. No items in battle*
    3. No glitches or exploits*
    4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
    Other rules:
    -- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
    -- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
    -- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
    -- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)

    *Double-Team:
    -- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
    -- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
    -- Using it would centralize the meta
    -- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
    -- It raises evasion
    -- It triggers the badge boost
    -- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
    -- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
    -- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
    -- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
    -- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:

    Resources:
    -- Gen 1 Stat Calculator: pycosites.com/...

    -- All Trainer Pokemon have EVs of 0
    -- Gen 1 Crit Rates: www.smogon.com...
    -- Crit rate is determined by dividing base speed by 512
    -- High crit rate moves determine their rate by dividing base speed by 64

    That feeling when you see yourself in the description of the video before it premiers. I've been wanting to redo a lot of my old runs but I can't wait to get to Tentacruel. The stats for gen 1 are never talked about but it has some crazy ones. Tentacruel will always have a soft spot in my heart. My first ever play through of Pokémon red had some kind of chest code on it where I had like 50 master balls and a Ratana with surf. Because of this I accidentally went the wrong way to start the game. It was confusing and super hard but the tentacruel I caught carried me through the entire game until I got mewtwo.

  • @RezeedTheDataspirit

    I think Mega drain should have been kept. Hear me out. Most of the final gauntlet has a lot of pokemon weak to grass. Lorelei's pokemon, a chunk of bruno's, and even Blue's team to name some examples. You can replace rest with Mega Drain for the champ fight, half it's team, not counting the eeveelution are would make for good "rest" points in that fashion. Sometimes, the "weaker" move can prove to have more potential.
    Edit for anecdote to help illustrate point:
    Once, for fun, I did a Scyther Only run on Crystal. It was certainly an interest run and had a more casual approach to it, but when I got to red. I beat him with only Fury Cutter. That move is a lot better than what people give it credit for.

  • @lamiaprincess6371

    I told ya Tentacool would be sick. I think it's a real underappreciated gem of a Pokemon, especially when it evolves. While it may seem weird it has the slow growth rate, Tentacruel's stats in this generation are so good I think it might even be warranted. 120 Special! 100 Speed! Bonkers for a Pokemon no one bats at eye at.
    Horsea...well it might end up being a little better than Seel. You do get Agility after all. But Horsea definitely is going to suffer in similar ways to Seel, outside of having a more inverted early game.

Don't feel obligated to answer, I just get hyped whenever I see people play games that I enjoy, I'm a simple man like that, haha.
    That Toxic + Leech Seed + Wrap combo is downright evil. Thank goodness I think no Pokémon can get all 3 moves naturally in Gen 1.

    So, something that I’ve learned recently thanks to new coverage of the format, Tentacool is one of the star pokemon of gen 1 7U format.
    7U is the lowest tier of competitive play, based on Pokemon Perfect’s tiering system. It’s a very low power format but still really cool! Like, in what other format are you gonna see a team of Hitmonchan, Beedrill, Ivysaur, Charmeleon, Tenacool and Meowth?
    As for why Tentacool is one of the best mons in the format, part of it is its access to Wrap, using it to put a foe into potential ko range. But its most important role is as a Charmeleon counter. Surf has a high chance to OHKO Charmeleon, and that can’t get countered.

    To explain badge boost for the uninitiated. In gen 1 and 2, 4 badges boost a stat 12.5% (gen 3 10%, mechanic removed in gen 4). In gen 1 specifically, there is a bug that causes all the badge boosts to apply again whenever your stats change stage (from moves or Xitems). However, when you level up and your base stats change, this triggers stat calculations to be run from scratch, resetting the badge boosts to the unglitched 12.5% again.
    Additional trivia about badge boost glitch: the stacks are based on number of changes, not the severity of the change. A +2 attack stage from swords dance applies the same badge boost as a -1 accuracy from sand attack. Badge boosts do not cap at +6 like stat change stages do.

    Just a quick math for you as I continuously watch you refight the champion. Surf does more damage than blizzard to magneton (and Alakazam).
    Surf = 95 x 1.5 = 142.5
    Blizzard = 120
    There were several times where you blizzarded magneton and it lived on a sliver where surf would have killed it.

    This talk about growth rates really makes me want to see a video comparing a pokemon with two different growth rates, for science I'd love to see you take a Pokemon that has say a slow growth rate and compare it to a run where you've edited it to have a fast or medium fast growth rate and see if it changes much

  • @Gungho73

    Jrose11 as well points this out, but Brock seems like it decides so many pokemons ranking. Also I didn't know it leveled slow, but it actually makes sense. It's already infesting the waters of gen 1, having a fast grow rate would ruin the ecosystem. Its weird how some pokemon like Tentacool/Cruel can be way better in one generation versus another. I keep forgetting as a result of this if its good in Gen I/II stadium games.

    This UPR gives you more than just a change of starter, you can switch on Full TM/HM Compatability. This being said, try Pokémon using moves that cannot learn naturally or even moves that might suck for that Pokémon like Alakzam using strength or Onix using surf.
    This might not be something others have attempted.

    Yo! Two pokemon have no resets now!
    No, ubers don't count.
    By the way, I've always wondered how you don't already know how high a Pokemon's stats have to be to get one hit KOs or two hit KOs in each fight.
    Haven't you been doing this enough that you can track exactly when a Pokemon, with its stats at a certain number and using a certain move with a certain base power and factoring in stab and resistance is going to for sure knock out another Pokemon with a certain number of usages? Obviously barring crits and misses.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damage calculation uses level, attack, other Pokémon’s defensive stat. Because it uses both stat and level it’s hard to pin it down exactly. I’m sure I’ll come to a place one day where I’ll have a good idea. (Also damage ranges from 85%-100% of the calculated amount, so it can be hard to feel out)

      Ok but that move only needs to hit once to get the job done, meanwhile Supersonic needs to hit and then pass up to 5(?) checks per infliction to even be helpful. So I would say Horndrill is the better bet if you have a choice to make.

    Never used Tentacool in the past. Its back sprite looks like a creepy slime with eyes, staring into your soul. 😱
    Horsea should do well in the beginning with water type move. However, with low HP, not so high speed, and no setup move; it is not very optimistic...

    Oh man I feel bad for you already for Horsea lol Base 30 HP and 40 Attack... Decent base 70 Special and with a speed of 60 it'll crit 11.7% of the time which isint bad... But that movepool is atrocious. Atleast it learns things like Bubble Beam and Water Gun for the early game but for later on? It's only good moves are Ice Beam, Surf and... Mimic? Swift? Rest? That's about it. Lorelei and Agatha are gonna *suck*

  • @MusicHavenSG
    @MusicHavenSG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Horsea: Would be a tough one, because it starts with a horrible Bubble attack and you don't really get type coverages. Sure it would easily rip Brock but Misty and Surge (skippable till later) will be an issue because that is all you have even with Bubblebeam. Once you can Ice Beam though, things will start to unlock for you. You do get Agility for using the Badge Boost Glitch so let's see how this pans out.

    Tentacool is such an adorable pokemon, and with your custom animations it was even more adorable ☺️.
    That run was really thought thorough, and you've improved the results of your first run so much. Thanks for trying the super troll strat of toxic and leach seed, even if it didn't get to job done for the champion fight.
    While watching you fish for the freeze, I thought you would resort to use rage, to express that frustration of getting walled at the champion fight 😂. The slow growth rate is an issue when it comes to solo runs, even though Tantacool is a great pokemon for gen 1 and even in general. 🤔You've made Cool very proud of you👏👏👏☺️. Good job!
    By the way these bloopers are never getting old, I always find it to be one of the best moments in your runs, and they always make me lough so hard while I do tedious stuff. So thanks for always making them, they're awesome. 😁
    By the way, don't underestimate the of rage, because it can give you badge boost, with an awful price, of only using your attack stat. But, it can help somehow if you need other extra badge boost because you've leveled up at the middle of battle. 😊
