- (October 27, 2009) Julie Theriot, Associate Professor of Biochemistry and of Microbiology and Immunology at Stanford, discusses the different types of microorganisms present in the human body and their functions, the distinction between disease-causing and benign or helpful microorganisms, and the interactions between human cells and both harmful and helpful microorganisms.
Stanford Mini Med School is a series arranged and directed by Stanford's School of Medicine, and presented by the Stanford Continuing Studies program.

Outstanding speaker, very well done and a credit to humanity!
Very interesting. Also heard about mother moose licking edible leaves and her calf following, eating those leaves and ingesting them along with the bacteria from mom's saliva.
This series is great. If more people watched these videos instead of all of the nonsense on TH-cam then the world would be a more informed and ultimately better place. I appreciate that fact that these videos are made public. Thank you.
People have way too short attention spans
Yes...so we can all be experts at MEMORIZING tests and books!!
Heck I have watched 4 of these and after listening to Fauci..I'm definitely more aware then him on immunology!!!
Can I get my degree now please??🤯🤔😹

😱 lol.... Absolutely Agree! 😁
I like both the nonsense and the educational stuff.
Thank you.
God bless you so much. Very well done amazing 👏
Greatly articulated. thank s
Great analysis of microbes.
this video is very good !
What an extraordinary lecture!
Professor Theriot's lecture on Microbes was fascinating and thought provoking. I hope that Stanford will post other lectures she presents. Time constraints prevented what was sure to be an equally interesting final section to her lecture.
Additionally, I appreciate the quality of the videography with inclusions of her slides. Well done.
excellent - very cool and fascinating
A force concept happens between pesticides and carbohydrates that create multiplied characteristics of both.Never has there been a better time to avoid carbohydrates and a dependence on those complex varieties warranted.Let's face it,chemicals are everywhere and in us.
Wow, super interesting. Cheers guy.
1:49:48 I love this video. I cheered when the neutrophil finally caught it.
Very good.
As the mite feeds on the flea, feeding on us.😢
We feed on the land floating on the earth, the earth that feeds upon ?
Something we don’t yet appreciate
Fantastic lecture. Too bad there wasn't enough time.
Very helpful lecture - Very impressive background: Physics and Biology
More lectures yes yes yes

This female is a brilliant and excellent presenter!
"We are all focused on a certain virus these days..." 12 years later: covid? Monkeypox? Always timely!
This was so good. It answered and caused questions. The Luca soup was interesting as an interventionist myself. However, my theory is the information for luca comes through the Sun which we commonly know as relatively simple but in time we will understand more of its complexity. The selfish gene is more clear now for me.
A 111aàa
I would have preferred that she just kept talking and left the questions until the end of the lecture. Now I feel like I missed out on some potentially interesting information.
a rare online lecture that has decent audio. Sh's a bit of a fast speaker though....
Regarding of the infant intestinal microbiota testing from a newborn to 1 year old child they forgot to understand that every newborn to 1 year old child is wearing pamper 24 hrs so will the bacterias from the wet pamper will absorb back into the intestines?
That might be a good thing. Their immune system builds faster
A great helptosay the least
Maim I have hpylory positive, doc told me to do ct scain contras for abdominal.
I have allergy with fish ,I told him he gave me deltacrotf(5 mg) 30 pills 10 pills 4 hours gap before ctscain. Should I do that .
Main I was hospitalised in 2013 and I was done ct scan test to at that time after 2 or 3 days of scain I got allergy reaction and doctor gave me some injection so got normal after that , should I take that ct scan now or not please give me suggestions please, I have always with vomiting maleficent.
Since this post if your still having the same issues, I would find another doctor. If that doctor doesn't solve your problem in a year of visits you need a different smarter docfor
So smart and beautiful :)
Minute 27, that is truth, I am writing a book called Science, Magic/k and Human potential and confirmation. Opening statement is "What are the attributes of being a multi planetary specie without causing a mass extinction". 🤘😝🤘 It's based on the Metric System😘
I heard “H1N1” and got so confused
include a link to the slides
สวัสดีครับ
Good content .... but talks too too fast ... needs to slow down the talking-speed
O m no
it was put there at birth by vaccination.
too long
i wish those stupid people in the audience would stop asking questions. They are wasting valuable time of the professor. Otherwise, we would have learned a lot as she would have more time to talk according to her agenda. This is a lecture about microorganisms on or in you, not a lecture about evolution etc. If you are interested in those, go to some other lecture, don't waste other people's time
First half is about nonsensical evolution.waste of time
rubbish!!
