    Tiago I think trying to skate long distance with a rockered setup will defiantly rob a lot of energy, Have you ever tried skating distance with a flat 3x110 configuration.

    • @This_new_handle_system_sucks
      @This_new_handle_system_sucks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If my memory serves me well, he used a 3x110 setup at the marathon, I think the problem was mostly not eating and drinking enough. And that's the most important to do (at least for me), I do 40+ km trips regularly and I generally drink half a liter sports drink, a can of red bull and eat a sportsbar, I also eat 1.5h before I start. If I don't do this especially if it's been a while then my legs start to feel verry weak after 30km and I even got feverish chills ones while the temperature was quite ok, that freaked me out a bit and since then I make sure I have something to drink and eat with me.

    • @maryparker5478
      @maryparker5478 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@This_new_handle_system_sucks Red Bull not the best for this; sensitivity to caffeine can make extreme physical exertion harder due to its effect on the heart (increased pulse rate and potential for PVCs, which can make some people feel anxious). (PS I'm a nurse.)

    We all know you love your backpack, it's a killer of good form and efficiency on distance skates. That and some longer flat frames would probably help. Double pushes and picking your route will help keep speed up. You made it buddy!

    I do endurance on inlines (just training to get back up to 40+km) and on my racebike (100+ km). Endurance is all about training your heart rate zones 2-4 and taking strategic breaks for rest where you fill up your energy and water. :) Keep at it! I love your videos and you inspire me to get back into my inline skating, and staying there. Just like 10 years ago. ;) Cheers! Great videos.

    I was lucky enough to live in Paris in 2015 and work as a bike and segway tour guide; it's brilliant to see it all again like this, especially with blading! Awesome video. Also, about the tutorials, if you're able to do one about how to start tackling hills, even small ones, that'd be awesome. Whenever I start going down hill, I always freak out because I pick up so much speed, and if it's near roads it's too risky because of the cars. Would be awesome to know how to control your speed on your hills.

    Bonjour, I'm relatively new to your channel. I always enjoyed roller skating but all I did was driving from one location to another. Thanks to the random TH-cam recommendations I landed on your channel. And I have NEVER seen slalom skating in my entire life. Now I'm skating almost every day and practice. I'd really want to see a video about how to take care of inline skates so they last long and receive the love they earn :3 Sorry for writing such a long comment :')

    This is a very relatable topic. I also had this issue, but after running 2-3 times a week around 25 km in each day I've seen a massive improvement in resilience. Before I couldn't run more than 5 km. I did quit smoking so that also helped. Not sure if going to the gym is the answer, although Bill Stoppard seems to think so :). Keep running at a pace which feels comfortable and results will show. Also, breathing exercises really help

    I would love a side-by-side comparison of novice skaters and experienced skaters for stride. Experienced skaters make skating look effortless; novice skaters, not so much. So, identifying bad habits, inefficiencies in stride, and any other pearls of wisdom for skating well with less exertion would be greatly appreciated!

    As for your endurance problem, what might be good is just taking breaks along the path. I would perhaps bring a book and maybe a little snack with me, and when you feel tired, take a break. You are allowed to complete the path in chuncks . Then maybe when you try again, make the breaks shorter and the chuncks longer. You gotta set little goals that will eventually get you to big goals.
    Good luck in finals my dude! Don't get too scared (cuz I am omg finals suuucccckkk)

    Hi Tiago. Great video and very honest. It's better to try and fail, than fail to try! Cycling will help with your cardio! Try to keep clothing weight to a minimum as your body will have to work harder to keep you cool. If you can go for a 3x110/125 setup it will help. Treat your body like a car :D Put a good amount of fuel in before and during the event. Good luck for your next attempt.

  • @adamscotera2378
    @adamscotera2378 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think Aussie has a point there, though I can relate to your frustration. I put all the energy and time I have into skating and riding, and it's really all distance-oriented, but I still get tired much sooner than I think I should and can't maintain a very high average for the distances I'm aiming for. But let me say that I think your stride looks excellent, and if you really want to see if you can improve your distance times you should try a flat 3x110 with a low cut boot and see what you can do with it. The flat profile will lead to longer strides and the low boot will let you get lower, which leads to more propulsion from each stride.

  • @RanjitSingh-ez8gu
    @RanjitSingh-ez8gu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bro! It's true what the comments say about the flat setup and the less clothing/backpack and more food, which will all help. But when you had such a bad experience you never want that again so you are scared of trying. When you don't do something you won't get better at it. So i think it's about overcoming your fear and start doing it more in small steps!

    As @Aussie Inline Skater mentioned, you need a flat setup for distance skating! Maybe even in combination with longer frames.
    Not only do you loose energy as you assumed correctly, you should also make longer strides, much longer strides!
    That means, extend the rolling phase inbetween each push and also use your bodyweight to push, not just the legs.
    @Pascal Briand made some great tutorials on these topics! ;-)
    In my opinion, the frame should be at least 11,2" or 11,6" long, which is still quite manouverable.
    But you could also get yourself Powerslide Elite 12,6" Trinity Magnesium frames for your Evo´s and put some 110mm wheels on.
    They are actually quite cheap, in comparison,

    Regarding endurance, ive never done an inline marathon but have run three marathons and imagine many of the same principles will apply. I think the most important aspect to marathon success is base cardio fitness. In the run up to a marathon make sure you are doing lots of long slow skates multiple times per week gradually building up the distance. I wouldn't attempt a marathon unless you know you can skate 18 to 19 miles in training.
    Also make sure your pace isn't too fast, your marathon pace should be one at which you can skate and hold a conversation at the same time. The temptation to burst off the start line is strong at big events but such a pace is liklely to be unsustainable.
    Thirdly maybe review your setup. I imagine a triblade setup at 110 mm or larger would be most efficient.
    Finally ensure you have carbs on board and sustain hydration, a large pasta meal the night before a race and a good breakfast will set you up for success. Good luck!

    Dear Mr. Tiago, I found your channel today and find it really interesting. You said maybe you should go to the gym and focus on cardio, may I recommend you simply buy a mid range skipping rope and try that. I am part of a boxing club and was completely unfit when I started, but just skipping turned that around.
    It may sound silly but skipping is great for your health, it can be more effective than a jog or run and of course it is fun when you start teicks and things.
    Anyway hope to see more good content from you man!

    Tiago, what kind of off-skate training do you practice? I think this weakness you're talking about is a result of many factors. Endurance training is important for skating hard for long periods of time. Calorie intake and the amount of water you're drinking are other factors. Without enough training, calories, and water it is really difficult to push your body to go further. And I don't mean calories just on the day you are skating, but in general as well. I find that during my cycles where I'm eating a lot of healthy foods over a period of time, that's when I'm able to train and skate the hardest!

    with your endurance problem try using triskates with 110 mm or dont use your rockered setup . Also make sure you breathe through your nose instead of your mouth because breathing through your mouth can feel like your lungs are gon explode. It helped me alot during my pacer test , try pacing! Dont get too energetic in the beginning of the ride , or dont go too fast in the beginning , instead go on a steady pace throughout the ride . hope this helps!

    You need a flat setup, 84mm+ wheels, and longer strides. Your short strides are killing your muscles, you will benefit from reducing contractions per minute, and you will strengthen your muscles more evenly with longer consistent strides.

    I believe you dont usually run, doing breathing exercises and sprinting helps the heart and the lungs work better. You need to do cardio, but I dont recommend the gym, I recommend you go jogging and sprinting in intervals at a nice park, with nice vegetation and nature. After 2 weeks jogging and sprinting pushing your heart rate and lungs to your limits you will notice HUGE changes on your stamina. We are inline skate fans from Mexico, and I have noticed that inline skating does NOT cover my cardio completely, unless I push the strides and the sprints too much. I help this info helps.

    Try looking online for diet info for athletes endurance. Go to a gym & do some workouts on all the machines especially a treadmill even if just walking. I've struggled with this as well. I tried to fix it by getting a pair of 3x125 skates and it surprisingly got worse! I learned the hard way that going up in wheel size can just amplify the effects of bad technique. I really had to take myself back to school. This video from Asha Kirby really helped me eliminate some of my bad habits: th-cam.com/video/vk8LyEaK6Ws/w-d-xo.html
    Look how she keeps speed up so well with a slow stride rate. Study her form and I'm sure you will find what is missing from your technique. I've already been able to see substantial gains in my stamina form what I've learned.

    Maybe try to talk with a marathon dude and he teach you some training or something like that. There is no information on TH-cam about that so maybe you can be first. Have a awesome week

    You probably have a shitty diet. What are you eating? Advice? Go carnivore and stay away from carbs.
    Once your body becomes a fat burner for energy instead of a sugar burner...you will have a ton of energy...all day long. When you depend on sugar and carbs for your energy...you are constantly looking for a sugar fix and your energy will be up and down all day. Good luck.
