He couldn't even say sorry to him. Because he knows he hurt more than a simple apology could fix. And because he knows he doesn't regret saving Sam and if he had to make that choice again, he'd still do it.
This reminds me of those scenes in season 5 where dean says he couldn’t trust Sam and Sam decides that he can’t trust himself either and tells dean he’d quit hunting, and then dean agrees right away even though Sam expects a fight. But in the end, family is the cure-all because nothing is stronger than familial love
You can truly see how hurt Dean is, by these terms that Sam laid out, all that Dean has ever had is his brother, the only relation he held onto, more than he held onto himself. And I know Sam was hurt and pissed beyond measure with Gadreel possessing him and everything panning out as it did, but I wish he would just punch Dean and let it all out on him and then become brothers rather than this slow torture to Dean.
I just wanted to hug Dean. To hear that, must have cut deep. No wonder he isn’t sleeping just drinking later on.. I can’t take the pause, the hurt look in Deans eyes after what was said “I’m not saying it’s not..I..” 😢
Sometimes the writers did the most epic job of contradicting themselves. Even Jensen and Jared said that there were things that didn't make sense to them.
Single most painful scene in the whole show. I think this is the one thing sam could say that would hurt dean the most. Because his little brother is his whole world. When sam and dean went to heaven Sam's heaven was filled him being alone and running away from dean and his dad. Dean's heaven was his mom making him breakfast and shooting off fireworks with sammy. Dean would die for him, and that's not an just expression. Dean actually did die for him, more than once. And he didn't just die, he went to hell and back for him. Literally.
It is nice when they actually try to deal with their problems instead of drinking, avoiding and hiding from it. It is a frustrating troop in media, the brooding rough guy, who never talks about anything and just drinks and looks somber. They romanticized the tough guy, drinks and doesn't deal with his problems. It never works about and their is nothing tough about hiding from your problems. It is good to see them dealing with their issues ever it if is not going well yet, it is a start. They have the courage to face up to it and try to fix it.
After everything, Sam has done to betray Dean and hurt him, Dean never told Sam that we can't be family, or we can't be brothers. To me, Dean was always the one who put family before everything. Tbh Sam can be a little selfish and hypocritical at times.

Really, Dean has not seen the big picture? Did he not support Sam when he said Yes to Lucifer and jumped into the cage? @Ashwaraide Doran Nah there's no argument to lose for me here. It was definitely more Sam than Dean. Dean broke the 1st seal in COMPLETE ignorance. Sam was being warned by Dean, Bobby, Cas, even other angels & supernatural forces to not trust Ruby. Yet he still went through with it.
