It's always just that light gray color. The color of the lefthand sidebar with the list of modules & lessons can be changed, but not the background of the welcome section next to it. :) If you are looking for a similar theme to the Momentum one where you have more options for changing the background color of the welcome dashboard, I highly recommend checking out the other themes by Penny in Your Pocket, like the Solid Lines Theme or the Tahnee theme!
