    Wife and I just bought a 2016 Jetta SEL 1.8T. Very well put together, fit/finish is excellent. We test drove 4 competitors and we really liked the Jetta. The interior has clean lines and is not cluttered. Engine/drive train is smooth and responsive. Looks like the Germans and Mexicans make a good team at building cars.

      Awesome...I own a 91 VW Jetta GL 1.8, it's made in Puebla. It's so well built, I thought it was a German model. I should've known it wasn't made in Europe, ALL the electronics work. Lol

    Ok, first my dear american friends this plant never took your jobs in U.S. this plant is operating in Mexico since 1964 so 30 yrs before NAFTA. Principal destinations in Europe, Northamerica(including Mexico) and Southamerica. The Volkswagen plant represent jobs and income for families and goverment and it is so important that we consider this plant as part of the city itself. We are very thankful to VW for giving us their trust for 50 years and yes, we suffer bad times as American Companies, we lost many jobs with new plant in Brazil and with economical crisis in 2009 but we still working next to our german friends and will keep working with Trump or not.

    Talk shit about Mexico production... What you don't realize is the Mexican culture loves to work. I used to work at the Bellagio in Las Vegas in the stewards department... I was the only white guy in that department... Everybody else was Hispanic and spoke little English and let me tell you these people love to work and work hard and right....I don't think the quality has decreased as a result of production in Mexico.....

      Watching this in 2018 and as it turns out the cars made in Mexico have fewer issues than the ones built in Germany, lol. Also agree about their work ethic, some are working 2 full time jobs to put their ingrate kids through college.

    The Mexican built VW's certainly had problems in the past especially the MK4's but the quality has gotten much better the last few model years.

    It's still German and the exact German technology whether its built in mexico or Germany. I got a 2012 Jetta 5 speed manual brand new in nov 2011 with 20 mi on it. drove it for just a little over 2 yrs and not one single problem. The VWs built in Germany had there fair share of problems and more. I would know I worked on them for 5 yrs, if you want to blame anyone it's the manufacture not where or who builds it. FYI the Volkswagen Touaregs are built in Bratislava, Slovakia since 2002 when they where introduce right along with the Porsche Cayenne and 4 years later the Audi Q7. All these are built in the same factory in Slovakia but that does not make them Sloven cars, they are still %100 German.

      I think what your trying to say is they are German engineered and held to the German standard. If their inspectors are good then that standard would indeed be met.

      For me they are mexican-made cars...mexican workers, mexican taxes, mexican territory as same with Slovakia, China, Brazil and Spain plant's if germans want to call it "german cars" they should to move all these plants back to Germany...

    I just saw a Volkswagen Jetta 2016 parked outside a friend's house, in my small town it's the first recent VW car here in a long time, I live in South East Asia. First recent because I have seen a few old rusty VW Beetles around a few years ago, but never a recent model. I've realized the Jetta I just saw, that I admired for its rear taillights because they look exactly like the Audi A5's taillights, was made in Puebla Mexico. What a coincidence that this 6 year old video ended up in my feed.

    I visited a local VW dealer a couple of wks ago. I was stunned to see exactly 23 used 2013 VW Jetta's all parked in a row with "Certified Used Car" stickers on them. They were closed, so I couldn't ask why all the new "used" Jettas parked in a group, adjacent to their regular stock of used cars. That's not an encouraging sign for a Jetta shopper looking at the 100 or so new Jettas, sitting right behind these cars. I WAS gonna get a GTI. Not now that they're going to Mexico for assembly.

    You make a good point, however, the days are over when assembly line workers built 70% of the vehicle by hand. It's all done by robots now and assembly line workers play a minimal role. VW, like other auto companies can build a Jetta GLI in Mexico with an MSRP of US-$30k. Jose is only paid 3-5 dollars an hr, meaning VW makes a kill. The MkVII Golf will now be built in Mexico. You can bet VW WILL NOT lower the price of the Golf/GTI, once production moves from Germany to Mexico.

    • @e-curb
      @e-curb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "t's all done by robots now and assembly line workers play a minimal role" This tells you that the % of that $30k price that is due to labour is microscopic. IOW, VW might save $500 by assembling the car in Mexico vs. Germany. That's why there are still many factories operating in Germany.

    I'm Mexican but why hasn't Mexico made its own brand of car by now? With 30 plus years of seeing foreign car makers in Mexico, I would think Mexico would have decided to build their own vehicles for Mexicans and for export around the world. With its location advantages and Nafta benefits, the opportunity is there.

  • @Nagadadavida
    @Nagadadavida 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw something on the science channel about Mexico and it's cars. My only thought was "What cars are from mexico?" only to constantly see the employees wearing VW shirts, so I decided to investigate. I see nothing special about mexico making German cars. To me it's another outsource program. I'd say it's about time mexico has it's own brand of car for Mexicans to pride themselves in.

    That´s equal to reinvent black thread. But if you must know, there is a Mexican car firm, the MXT made by Mastretta. it's a luxury sport car made in Mexico by Mexican engineers. What would be best is to bring innovation to what's already here instead of inventing something that's being made by the millions. It's better to acquire technologies that are time proven effective and are cheaper to maintain, like VW's for example. Would you rather own one of those fuel-hog cars made in USA?

    Its not the same, its watered down. First off for something to be the same it has to be made on the same tooling, they even say in this video the tooling is locally made...yeah sounds the same to me....

    problem is, they overdo it. i felt uncomfortable being treated as a semi-god although i had achieved nothing.
    all i want is respect. nothing more, nothing less. and that includes self-respect. but anything else is bs.
    then you can claim, that you can do it better and proove it to everybody.

      Sounds good just be careful lots of things are being made over there lately. Obviously in terms of quality and durably we won't be better than Germany because they have years and years making from little cars like the golf to fighting jets. They do have the knowledge!
