EL REFUGIO is a project designed by Estudio IPA in collaboration with Rivera (Interior design) and Matorral (Landscape), based on the conceptual premise of creating a relationship between the living space and the natural context of the vineyard. The house responds to the north-south axis of the vineyard, slightly elevated above the ground level to offer a direct visual connection with the landscape. The design organizes its program according to the internal functioning of the spaces, ensuring that every interior and exterior corner offers a direct view of the surroundings, always highlighting the vineyard and its surrounding environment. The horizontality, interior warmth, and minimalist exterior of the house are intended to make the landscape the protagonist, rather than the architecture itself.
This project celebrates the surroundings of San Miguel de Allende, honoring the agricultural heritage that has shaped the local history for years. Local materials such as Mezquite wood, Galarza stone, stucco, quartz in the kitchen, terrazzo, and finishes that blend seamlessly with the natural, endemic landscape all play a central role in the project
