Windows and macos are ok for average consumers. Browsing, some office work and other day to day usage. That’s it. They are dumbed down systems that ensure that anybody can use them.
But when it comes to power users, only Linux offers the customization capabilities, advanced features, performance and literally, full control over your system.
But there are hundreds of Linux distros. Don't know which one to choose?
You’ve come to the right place my friend because today, I’m presenting the 5 best Linux distributions for software professionals.

Thank you so much for your videos. It helps a lot. You are one of the best linux blogger 😊
Thanks alot for the video but it is long over due. Now I want u to integrate chat Gpt into Linux terminal

Arch, really? Remove it from your mind that developers want to customize every aspect of their system. More often than not, they don't have time for that. They want something that works without getting in their way.
Agreed. Arch is for hobbyists/tinkerers, not developers.
Very true which is why I stick with Ubuntu
True ! That's why I use Linux Mint for years
Agreed. Picked arched due to it being the base of steam os. Regretting it now that I need to do flutter development.
Then they should use something complete and setup out-of-the-box like Liya
1:59 POP! OS
5:19 Fedora
8:33 Arch Linux
11:23 Ubuntu
14:30 openSUSE
Always like this channel videos. Very good info. Good speaker
Linux Mint is not in top 5? Strange. Ubuntu is good. But the best Ubuntu is Linux Mint.
Yeah, imagine not mentioning Mint on a development system, that make your PC a rock solid with also snapshots support out of the box with Timeshift. I disagree with LinuxTex,i'm sorry. Also the worst thing a dev can do is use Arch, def the worst pick...
@@NoNameFoundTVi think he didn't do proper research on this. I'm a developer myself and i find arch very unstable for my work.
@@sahilmanchanda6988 Indeed! Of course as a dev you want yout system to be as much stable as you can. Using Arch is the opposite of what you have to do to succeed.
i will always suggest linux mint over ubuntu
I appreciate what were you trying to say, but I feel like you have barely mentioned any difference between the distributions in context of productivity. I even dare to say, only thing you mentioned was tiling mode in Pop OS. Other than that, you just did an overview of 5 different distributions.
You can barely describe anything regarding the productivity, if you pick 5 distros with Gnome DE. I believe, when it comes to productivity, it comes down to the DE you pick.
One exception here is Pop OS, since they do custom stuff. That is why I'm glad you mentioned their tilling mode. But this was the only productivity point for me. This video should have been more focused on this type of points.
It's not a bad video, but I just don't think it has anything to do with the title of it. Talking about productivity needs much more than just general overview of the distro.
So what are your daily drivers in terms of distro and DE (desktop environment)?
@@graceoverall I currently use Fedora with i3 (I know, it's not DE)

Hola. Random rant; after my last update my MX Linux suddenly does not recognize the soundcard on my HP EliteBook 840 G7 Notebook PC, and the MX forums are crap, to say the least. Why did this happen? I'm not tech savy enough to mess with the terminal, kernel, cookbook, codes, whatever; I just want my laptop to have sound again. How does one fix this, or what can I read to help me (or the person I'm going to take my laptop to, our local HP HQ)?
I would not use arch for development
but you can control and customize everything in arch
I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon. It is great os for me. 🎉
I an glad you've moved on from just Debian based distro's. I currently am giving W11 a try but already I getting a little pissed with the ads etc. After a while I will be switching back as left because he Codec's issue with fedora I thinking of Oepn Suse also not being American is a major plus in a lot of way for SUSE. I would use Ubuntu but I hate their version of Gnome and hate having to de bulk it away for spans.
I like zorin OS.
I used Arch but switched to Opensuse TW.
Opensuse is better in my opinion
Where's Linux Mint?! It's the most stable distro I've ever used
Lack of snaps.
Whether you like them or not, there are some apps that are Snap exclusive that developers might need for their work.
@@VladVlad-qm3bl off the top of my head, iCloud has a snap.
If you use mainly Apple products and keep your files there, having a Linux app for accessing those files is very important.
@@dstinnettmusic that's not exactly a popular use case I'd say. Everything else is generally available for all types of users.
Its true, I have tried so meny of them, but the one who works so well out of the box is Linux Mint!!!!!!!!💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
@@jbwangxyz maybe not for you personally, and that is great for you. Other people feel differently.
Maybe make your own TH-cam video about Linux distributions instead of asking for validation from a stranger? Your choice on Linux distro isn’t any more or less valid because a stranger said it in a TH-cam video.
as a developer, i agree. i have 2 computers I use. one with Pop!_OS and the other one with Fedora. They are great for working.
yo bro can u show me how to install linux and delete fully windows ?
@@Adu79there's videos for that bro
My experience with Pop_Os is terrible. More like an unstable distro
@@nipunvats3331 which laptop are you using.?
Can you explain why i doing research why it is bad ?@@nipunvats3331
I used Mint for over a year and I recommend it for those switching over from Windows or Mac. I've been using Sparky for a while and it's a happy medium between pure Debian and Ubuntu. It's fairly lightweight too. Truth is, many distros are good for development. For me stability is the most important, so I wouldn't use Arch for development. Mint and Sparky don't force updates on you, which is one thing I despised Windows for.
so mint is good for development or other things like using krita , godot etc. ?

Fedora is the best in my opinion
What is the best Linux distribution among all the distributions, an alternative to “Windows” for beginners, in general, according to your use and opinion?? What is the most protected and secure distribution??
Linux mint
Use Linux mint with Cinnamon desktop environment if you want Windows 7 kind of experience.
Use Fedora with KDE desktop environment if you want near Windows 10 experience.
My choice is Fedora.
Where is VanillaOS? It's awesome!
Fedora is definitely a G!
Namaskar Senior. Nice vedio. 😊
Hey Sudhanva. Hope you enjoyed the video 🤟
I can't find any videos reveiwing the Best overall Linux for the latest Laptops with good specs!!! can you pls make one?
There is only 3 distro fedora, debian and arch we can element any desktop enviroment to any distro every distro can be customized to desired look
and ubuntu
@@Danielspss ubantu is debian based
I use Fedora KDE on my desktop will probably use OpenSuse on my laptop still deciding.
Open Suse aint cool
When you are gonna make videos on wms like hyprland?
Hmm You forgot the best linux distro i.e. linux mint, have been using linux mint xfce for last 4 years, Other than gaming, this os is a 100% complete replacement for windows. The best linux distro i have ever used.
@10:30 - wrong. Nix has the largest pool and has that top spot since 2021.
I've had lots of things not woork in Fedora.
In general there 3 of the major linux distros: Debian, Arch, Fedora
And people usually recommend using one of these
I recommend opensuse tumbleweed, too. But otherwise that is correct!
I recommend mx linux kde.

I'm looking for an alternative to the laggy Ubuntu, and he recommends it.
Why do you hit the screen at the start of every video with your left hand :D It either seems you are hitting or sprinkling something on the screen.
I’m a Linux user myself, but it’s weird to say that macOS and windows are okay only for simple tasks while Linux is the only one for power users
Anyone who is anyone is doing development inside containers and distroboxes. Just use the distro what has the UI you like.
Best Linux distros for developers are the immutable distros because they are more stable. I like Nitrux, Fedora Silverblue snd Vannilla OS.
so is a car on 5 wheels. more stable.
😂😂😂😂😂😂@@mrb180
Arch is certainly NOT for developers. Developers want to code AND not customize their OS

This is the frst time I watched a video like this that wasnt like IT LOOKS LIKE WINDOWS AND ___
For me Linux Mint is the best

I really liked the video, but to say that windows and Mac are “dumb dumb systems” and “power users need Linux” isn’t true. There are a lot of power users and great developers with both Apple’s and Microsoft stuff. Thanks for the video mate

open suse installer is a difficult for newbie
Thanks bro! Indians are the best, in everything, always.
Nixos too
recommended me arch spins with kde
Arch
Endeavour Os
3 distros for developers are: Alpine Linux, Void Linux and Refracta
none of them uses systemD
all have a lot of software
all are community driven
and all are lightweight
Why is systemD bad?
@@MrSojek from what I've heard, the loading times are slower with it. I've used several distros with systemd and a few on OpenRC (currently using Artix), I don't see much difference aside from certain commands. In OpenRC, you need to type a little more to launch a service and there are fewer guides on how to use it.
I also don't know why he listed Alpine and Void. Alpine is basically DIY, you don't have the basics when you install it, this is something I've mostly used for Docker containers. Void, well, we were cautioned against using it by senior devs, implying that it's obscure, quirky and that what we needed for work wasn't well-supported by it. Refracta I know nothing about.
Lubuntu for me
Fedora use less on 4gb ram
i use suse ❤
Same!👍
sorry man but you didn't say a word about void linux ,slackware and so many other distros .....
And what about Debian ???
no nixos???
Nothing beats Kubuntu IMO😤😤😤😤
lts upgrade
I used to switch every month until I found Kubuntu.
fedora kde
fun fact : watching video in fedora 38 😆
yes! it is fun! so much fun!
same
The LAST distribution I would expect to be in the list is... Pop!, a distro clearly dumbed down on purpose for Window$ fans. And the rest of the distros in this "top 5" are almost equally crap. None of them is what a serious developer would ever consider to use. Period.
Man, fedora dont give single f about users which they confitmed h264 hatdware decoding without any workatound. Ubuntu is going away from free software and dont give f about desktop users giving all fate that snap package is not malware to people who pack it..... I don't think those systems schould be recended to anyone as for now.
I hate the dumbed down UI. I strip off all the windows, icons and mouse cursor so there is just the prompt showing.
The only way to get super-productive for a Power User.
Arch Linux…ahhh yes.
I’m sorry, but claiming arch is suitable for application developers is dumb.
I get paid to write code, not fuck about with my system when it nerfs itself on a shitty rolling distro.
Lol 😂 so sick of seeing these types of videos on TH-cam. There is no best distro on Linux for programming. Do you have a terminal and text editor? Guess what!?!?! You can now start programming! There's no Linux distro that you can't start coding on! Stop this uneducated insanity...
Wtf bro ??!!!
This is too brutal 😂😂😂
There are reasons for insane ability of customisation is the least appreciated benefit of Linux.
.
Every professional wants to get things done without needing to customise anything.
.
Now you know this video has most useless information about Linux.
.
By the way I don't use Arch,
Fedora, Rocky, Alma and Debian are my choices.
Mint and POP OS are also too good for reasons not mentioned in this video.
sorry, that's kind of non-sense...
a distribution is a tuple of different features.
E.g.
desktop environment (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc.)
package managing (software store: only a gui to it)
kernel and drivers
configuration system(s) (e.g. organization of /etc)
administration tools
...
Most distributions are derived from some base distro and combine the features of the tuple.
most basic: Debian (apt), Fedora (rpm), Suse, Arch (pacman)
Those all have big repositories of packages and also include extensive configuration systems.
Arch may have more packages (if you include AUR), but e.g. debian has more packages that are mature. From my experience in practice you find most useful software with debian (it depends on the topic).
That Arch can compile a lot of packages via AUR isn't that special. I often clone a package from github, compile it and create a debian package from it. It's usually simple. This works with all those base systems, you only need a tool to create a package from the install command.
E.g. I use checkinstall in Debian.
Some distributions add special things like those new "immutable" distros or a set of tools.
But you are on Linux, those tools are usually compilable for other distros, too.
As a developer I like to choose, what I need and want. E.g. I don't use a tiling window manager, it's not enough for me.
Debian and the other big ones allow to install any of the features in the tuple and manage configuration, so they work with the rest of the system.
More special distros tend to choose one way "because it's the best" (they say), but at the end they only limit your choices.
I especially use Debian because it has a democratic development process.
There is no favour, e.g. like Ubuntu that drops flatpak support because their snap format is the best (it's not in my opinion).
The system is built to be open for fdifferent solutions.
And if in rare cases they decide to concentrate on a single solution (e.g. like systemd) the system is open enough to still allow derivates that can easily use another init system.
I often tried other distros, e.g. rpm based systems and Arch derivates of all kinds, but up to now I always came back to Debian, just because of it's openness. Arch is fairly open, too, but it's too much work for me to manage it with about 6000 packages in my system.
OpenSUSE is the best distro of 2023. Its popularity has skyrocketed and for a good reason. Everyone must try it.
If fact, OpenSUSE ended my distro hopping 2 years ago
Why is it the best distro ?
@@-Engineering01- The way OpenSUSE tests their packages (OpenQA) is unmatched with other mainstream distributions. This results in a very stable system all across. It also ships with preconfigured snapper system snapshots that are ready to revert from GRUB if something goes wrong. It saves time, stress and money. Also if someone is a beginner, YaST and YaST extensions allow for managing your system very easily. I also saw a lot of people confess that OpenSUSE ended their distro hopping game for good.
je ne rate jamais vos vidéos. merci
👌👌❤️❤️
Look man. I know you're doing your best here and you need eyeballs. But for those watching and curious, you're right, no developer gives much of a hoot about launchers. Or if they do, they know which one they want. They do not care about gui package managers. They don't care about wallpapers. Everything on Linux does not work. Nothing is effortless. This video is total nonsense. This is not a video for developers except maybe those who need TH-cam eyeballs. Give this comment a thumbs up before it's deleted.
I turned this off right at the start after the horsecrap comment about developing on Windows or Mac. There will be no rational discussion in this video.
"Debian left the chat"
PopOS is worst
Why

Calling windows and mac are for DUMB ppl are hilarious 😂
Good luck having Visual Studio on your system
BTW if I goona work on a project I do it in most stable system Mac not in do it yourself i use arch btw
