God is in the Valley of Weakness and Pain - A Reflection from Streatham Vale Baptist Church

God is with us in the valley of risk and failure. In today's passage we see Jesus inviting Peter (and the other disciples) to step out of the boat and walk to Him across the water. Peter chooses to take the risk, and literally steps out in faith to walk on the water. The other 11 disciples stay safe and dry in the boat. They did not trust that Jesus would enable them to walk on water.
Peter 'failed' when he took his eyes off of Jesus, and focused on the wind and the waves - he allowed circumstances and fear to cause him to doubt and falter, and so he started to sink. But God was with him even in the midst of his failure. Jesus immediately reached out a hand and pulled Peter to safety. Even when we fail, God is there to catch us, to hold us securely, and to teach us, so that next time we might succeed.
Will you let God encourage you to take risks in faith? And will you trust that He will be there when you fail? Will you go all in for Christ?
