  • Good treadmills don't come cheap and the Peloton Tread is right up there with the priciest. With a £2,295 price tag for the hardware and a chunky monthly subscription to boot, it's a serious investment for anyone. So is the Peloton Tread good value for money? And what type of runner would it suit best? After testing the Tread for three months, Run Tester Kieran caught up with self-confessed beginner runner, Jeremy White, from WIRED.co.uk (who also reviewed the Tread) to take an in-depth look at what the Tread really offers. Buckle up because this is a long one.

    This is the review I needed. All the treadmill reviews I've read comparing this to that machine all pretty much negate/ignore the Peloton training experience in their recommendations. I have a Bike+ and initially didn't think I would love the trainer led classes, but it turned out the opposite. I like the high fiving and the leaderboard. The leaderboard actually motivates me quite a lot for some reason. I don't think I would get on an exercise bike without the class anymore. I am not a good runner but I have to run for my Military career. I'm mid 40s and I run slow and can't run my 1.5 miles without stopping. even when I was better at running I would still have to stop a couple times. I think I would have the same experience as this guy had with this machine. I know the machine is expensive but with the financing options it's totally doable. I already pay for the subscription for the bike anyway.

    Your friend just discovered the joy of running in a group. Saturday long runs kind of my social life and exercise rolled into one

      Possibly. Though knowing Jeremy quite well, we're not sure he's your regular social runner. But maybe he should give it a try.

      A trick: watch series at kaldroStream. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.

    Thank you for the review. What floor do you have the tread on? Are you concerned that it might damage the floor without a mat? I am waiting for my tread delivery and wondering if I need to use a mat underneath it to protect my hardwood floors.

      You have a few options, regular equipment mat, interlocking mats, horse stall mats or a couple of commercial gym mats(all available on amazon).

    Great video, I found it very informative. I'm put off buying slightly as you can't use the screen to watch other content as mentioned in the video. What can you do with this if you decide not to carry on with the subscription?

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can still use the Tread as a treadmill. You just don't get any of the interactive content. In all honesty, if you're thinking that may happen you're way better off buying a cheaper alternative standard treadmill.

    Hi, how noisy is running on thus treadmill in the home? Is the sound of it running loud?

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, it's as loud as any treadmill we've ever run on. Wouldn't want this in my lounge. Wouldn't be sure it wouldn't hack of the neighbours if you live in close quarters.

    They've just issued a worldwide recall for the Tread & Tread+ models - would love to see your opinions on said news.

      Small beings + a moving belt = the small being's (or their parent/owner's) fault

      We got the email from Peloton outlining the recall. Interestingly it only references the issues with the display but not the wider child safety issue with the belt. Here's what it said: "Unfortunately, we must ask you to stop using your Tread and ensure that no-one else uses it. This is because the touchscreen may become loose and fall off, posing a risk of injury.
      If your Tread was recently serviced or replaced, either in order to try to resolve this issue or for some other reason, there is still a risk that your Tread's touchscreen may become loose and fall off. As a result, you should stop using your Tread and please ensure that no-one else uses it.
      We are very sorry about this."
      After we recorded and posted this video we also realised that on our Tread you could set the belt moving without first starting a workout on the display which seems dangerous as well.
      In light of all of these issues, the recall feels like the correct thing to do, probably should have come earlier but perhaps worryingly might not address the issues beyond the display coming loose.

      There's clearly a parental responsibility element here but it seems odd that you would be able to roll the speed control without first having to have gone through the steps to login/start a workout etc. That feels like adding unnecessary risk. I (Kieran), took time to show my 5 year old the Tread as soon as it arrived. Explained what it was, how it worked, let him walk on it a bit, see the controls but also understand how powerful - and potentially dangerous - it was. He understood straight away to treat it with respect and if he wanted to walk on it, to always ask me. But not all kids are wired the same way, younger kids might not understand and if you're going to put treadmills in people's houses, they should be designed to remove as much risk as possible. It doesn't feel like the Peloton has got that right.

      @@TheRunTesters Thank you for your response Kieran, it is much appreciated. I wasn't aware of some of the details you mentioned, you're absolutely right - there's some parental responsibility concerns in the specific case mentioned but clearly there were other flaws that really should not be present, particularly in such a high end product. Regarding setting the speeds before you're on the treadmill - is this not a purposeful feature for clients who test their sprint speeds and such (in gyms / homes)? Having said that - in SUCH a high end product, it seems silly not to have some fail safe to prevent this if the user wished to when it's in a home with kids / pets etc. It's an interesting discussion - I'd be very curious to hear it in a video from you guys, love your content.
