    I liked your reaction and the comments, but about the lyrics, the pop sounds these days are very easy to interpret and Harry doesn't do that. You didn't understand some lyrics because you have to think about them. About Falling's lyrics, that verse probably talks about the last conversation he had with his ex girlfriend. That the coffee is over and this is killing him because they have nothing left to talk to each other and no more coffee to drink so he will have to leave. It's about the pain of knowing that this is their last moment. This is how you write poetry. This is much deeper than generic letters and you have to think a little to understand. To interpret. Metaphors are even more complicated to understand than we are used to. And Lights up is about finding out. No more wanting to go back to a place where you couldn't be yourself.

    He actually wrote falling in 20 min, after he got out of his shower

      Um no actually their info about that was wrong. In the documentary we can hear him whistling a tune. At the time we didn't know. It's actually cherry. He was in only a towel wrapped around his waist and hair wet while holding a guitar. Cherry is the song that was made in under 12 minutes.

    • @abbeyboyle8843
      @abbeyboyle8843 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@sarahlamar430 HI. The scene with the towel/guitar is from the Behind The Album doc from Harry's first album and filmed in Jamaica while recording that album so it really was not Cherry. In his interview with Zane Lowe about the album Fine Line, he describes getting out of the shower and hearing his friend Thomas Hull messing around on his piano. He then joined Thomas (also known as Kid Harpoon) and wrote a song in 20 minutes while wearing only that towel. Different album, different song, different towel altogether.

    He wrote TPWK about/for his fans and touring, there’s a quote about it in the Rolling Stone article by Rob Sheffield that goes track by track...he said his first solo tour really affected him, that he was so happy that people really wanted to see him being himself, when he wasn’t sure coming out of 1D if people would be interested in just him, singing music he wrote ❤️

    Aww She is my favourite song. I love the vibe of it. I've noticed you're not always fans of the elusive metaphors but I think this album is meant to be like the emotional journey, high to low to finding yourself again and the emotions are carried in the instrumentals as much as lyrics. Like Watermelon Sugar reminds my lit student brain a lot of metaphysical poetic style, aka cheeky and kinda super explicit but not directly apparent so it can seem like a vague love song. I mean it's fair to give a response if you don't think that way in what they mean to you but for me the lyrics are better the more I let them sink in and also become very explicit... (also when he performed it live recently he had swirling visuals made from his album art where he is not exactly clothed that give quite a Georgie O'Keefe impression of blossoming flowers and such so.) I read some of the album performance reviews that said some of the less favourite songs on the album like TPWK are amazing live and actually really work so it'll be interesting to see if that holds up.

  • @lighteningdagger2365
    @lighteningdagger2365 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    About lights up, the lyrics being vague, I don't feel that because if you'll pay attention it goes like,
    "What do you mean?
    I'm sorry by the way
    Never coming back down
    Can't you see?
    I could, but wouldn't stay
    Wouldn't put it like that
    What do you mean?
    I'm sorry by the way
    Never coming around
    Be so sweet if things just stayed the same"
    When he says he wouldn't put it like that he could mean "Oh no, that came out rude" and then in the next lines he rephrases that into a more subtle way of saying that he wants to move towards the light instead of staying in the dark with his (partner?/companion/ could be the reference to the media) he says it politely this time around, "(it would) be so sweet if things just stayed the same" but that's what, they aren't the same because he doesn't want to stay anymore. He wants out.
    The song is about self reflection and finding yourself, breaking the chains and wanting out.

      The lyrics on this album are definitely deeper than the majority of pop going around at the moment, and that's very much not a criticism. It's a taste thing! To be honest it's almost refreshing to have some less obvious lyrics that you have to adapt and puzzle out. Thanks for enriching the discussion!

    I think the "and if our friends all pass away, it's ok" lyrics is basically saying that there is no excuse not to be kind, even if you're going through shit, even if all your friends pass away you can still treat people with kindness... it made sense to me at least.
    Also, Harry plays guitar and does so in almost every song, he's not the main guitarist tho, Mitch (Rowland) as you were talking about is responsible for most of the epic guitar playing you were commenting on.

  • @brandonrubio5391

    At 22:45,
    But what if it's not a link? Let's build a scenario here, and you'll have to bear with me and my wild imagination. But what if the two are sitting at their favourite coffee shop, Beachwood cafe, and they are here to talk and clear things for the better. And they sit, waiting for each other to say something that would give them something to hold on, a substance, something concrete. But they've both run out of things they can say to each other, they're both hanging by that fragile thread that can break any moment. And in this daunting situation where they just sit in silence in a coffee shop, their favourite coffees are not there either. They're out of coffee (or it could also mean that they have both finished their coffees and still haven't had the conversation they were supposed to have) and the minutes are passing agonising slow, because now they don't even have a coffee they can stir while they just simply stare at each other. I think the lyrics convey a lot here, even though they are vague.

I am a big fan of the 60s , 70s and of the beatles that's why i loved the album. it's nice to have some music to relate to emotionally but then some other tracks like lights up and tpwk will make you go like what the fuuuck but you like it anyway. And yes harry does play guitar and is improving and i actually liked she ukw pink floyd style with that psychedelic bits and that guitar solo loved it! and that's a brilliant review gj

      Some people think he wanted the hiatus bc he saw how bad Zayn was doing, and I totally get where they’re coming from. I mean Zayn developed an eating disorder, his music kept getting rejected by the 1D management, and I’m sure it was obvious to Harry and the other boys that he was getting thin and angry. Smh it’s just so sad that if we would’ve gotten that 2014 hiatus we would still have their solo music AND finished 1D projects with Zayn still on them 😒😔

      It’s a #1Album sold right now 476k - if he wins a Grammy I think you all should write him an apology- it’s ok to have your differences of opinions but to act in mature about it is so unprofessional! I would watch how Harry treats people fans strangers and even you two after criticizing his cheeky songs - and you would totally understand his album and the reason why he set up TPWK song for his concert- he wanted the song to to be a safe place where everyone could have a good time and dance , and jam out together!

    The Canyon Moon bit about "plays an old lover's hippie music//pretends not to know the words" is referencing his ex gf playing him a song from an ex (probably Alex from MGMT) that wrote a song about her but she casually played it and toned down her love of it for the sake of his ego.

    You need to listen to the words completely through. Watch Harry’s Tiny Desk concert or his interview with Zane Lowe and he talks about the creation of the album. It is a bit of a shame that you insist that you like the album but you then go on to laugh at it and pick it apart. This is not a creditable review in my opinion. TPWK, in fact the whole album was written to be performed live. All songs take on a different meaning when sung live. Stevie Nicks loves this album and I prefer to believe her than your review.

      @@akutyam It's true we did dig the boys out a little, but I still think it's hard for boy bands to come across as genuine. I think that just comes with the format of multiple singers and songs that are often written by outsiders, especially when the group is young.
      That being said - 'Never Enough', 'Drag Me Down', 'What A Feeling' and 'History' are all songs that I still listen to to this day and I'm happy to say the album has grown on me!

      @FriendboysMusicTherapy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man!
      From what I can tell (definitely not an expert), technically it's an Ab Major to Bb Major, but if you're playing with a capo on the 6th fret then it's the same shape or position as D Major to E Major, so that might be where the confusion is coming from there.
      As for the modulation, since the song is in Bb minor, the expected or standard progression here would be Ab Major to Bb Minor, but he's going to Bb Major, then resolving to Bb minor for the chorus.
      To be honest, the more I listen to this song, the more I like this part!
