Interstellar is one of those movies that stick with you for a long time. It's also an amost perfect movie. "Now, we're just here to be memories for our kids."

This is not just a movie. It's an experience. The combination of Christopher Nolan (director & co-writer) and Hans Zimmer (music composer) creates magic. The actors did a great job too. The CGI/VFX is seamless. The director got help from Nobel Prize winner Dr. Kip Thorne to make it more scientifically accurate. He co-wrote the movie with his brother Jonathan Nolan, who made the Westworld TV series, another great sci-fi show.

    • @SETHthegodofchaos
      @SETHthegodofchaos 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

Kip Thorne also provided the first initial idea and script, although that one got later heavily replaced. That is how he got initially involved with the project. Not just through being a scientist, but actually wanting to make a story with proper science.

It's really important to note that if Coop had NOT fought Brand, none of this would have worked out. The whole reason they were able to get the quantum data and send it to Murphy was because they were left in the position where, to get to the right planet, both Coop and TARS had to go into the black hole in the first place. If they had just gone there to begin with, they would have been able to settle the planet and grow a new human race, but everyone back on earth would have been doomed. It only worked because every single person (including even Dr. Mann) played an indispensable role in the outcome.

An amazing detail is the fact that the black hole in the film was designed before we got "pictures" of them. And honestly they where spot on just from knowing the science of black holes. This is for sure my favorite scifi movie of all time because I love space so much. I don't think people understand how massive our known universe really is and is just mind blowing. Black holes are theorized to be able manipulate space and time. Therefor within the black hole cooper was outside time, being the one who sent the coordinates and the "ghost". I think watching your reaction summarizes one of the greatest quotes i've ever heard: "what is the most valuable resource known to man? Time".

  • @SixFour0391
    @SixFour0391 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

I think what some people miss is Professor Brand and Dr. Mann are the typical Humans and Coop is the idealistic one; the one we all want to be but few actually turn out to be …
We are selfish and we lie (even with good intentions) to get people to do what needs to be done, in our eyes. Most of us would have pushed the button to get saved, or chose not to go at all.
The HERO in a story is special because most of humanity doesn’t behave that way. We’d all like to believe we would, but when the chips are down (in such a way as in these types of stories), we usually make the wrong choice.
A sacrifice cannot be made by those who don’t KNOW they’re losing anything or trading effort or resources for good.
“Do not go gentle into that good night; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

The Martian is a massively recommended film with Matt Damon (acted his A off). Most of the movie is grounded in accurate science and it's just a fun watch. It's pretty amazing that one piece of music can be used so many different ways throughout the movie to convey such a wide range of emotions. Also, Hans Zimmer wrote that piece as 3 minor chords and then he just built off it. Like the base of it is really simple, but it turns into something you can't even describe. "Hans Zimmer - making of INTERSTELLAR Soundtrack" it's 5 mins

I can never get tired of watching this masterpiece or reactions to it, and yours was one of the best reaction I've seen (which isn't a surprise to anyone who's following your RPG playthroughs). It never fails to shock me how time goes by at different rate depending on gravity. Seeing poor Romilly suddenly much older only for him to die soon after from the trap set by Mann, it's so tragic. Also can't possibly imagine the feelings of Cooper and Murph seeing each other at the hospital, considering for Cooper it's only been a few days staying awake but for Murph it's been a whole lifetime...

Just a quick explanation as to the difference between a black hole and a wormhole. If you imagine a funnel and at the end of the narrow part is an object (singularity) that is so dense it's gravity is so powerful it even draws light to it this is a black hole from which there is no escape. Now imagine a hourglass with both ends open so you could pass straight through it. That is your worm hole.

So something cool about when I first saw this in theaters: Back then, I was still in college studying Engineering, and in one of the physics classes we had taken around then had us studying Einstein’s theories of relativity, wormholes, black holes and a lot of the stuff that’s in this movie! And a lot of our homework had us trying to figure out speeds, times and distances that it would take, for example, for a parent to return home to be the same age as their child. So it was really cool to see all that in a movie during that time!
Amazing reaction as always! With Interstellar’s theater release getting kicked out to December, I’ve been really wanting to watch the whole movie at home again, so it’s perfect timing that your Patreon dropped! Very excited to do the full watch-along tonight or tomorrow

You nailed it! For all of the cool science, Brand's line sums this film up. "Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can't understand it." This film is a spiritual and emotional experience because it's about the love and connections that make us human.

  • @Un_Debunkable

Dr brand may have lied to everyone, but without his efforts none of it would have been possible and humanity would have gone extinct. His goal was to save his daughters life, just like Cooper. Try to find a habitable planet, and send her there with the recolonizing setup and save her life. Everyone made bad decisions. Matt Damon's character was the brave leader of the first group that went through the wormhole, then he became desperate and made some terrible choices. Cooper was wrong to push to go to the bad planet using Brand's relationship as the excuse not to go to the better planet. Dr Brand (Hathaway) got that guy killed on the water planet and cost them decades of time. I think the point is that the right people were there for the job and they fought through adversity, each with their own motivations, and amazing things happened. Sometimes people end up doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, and nothing's perfect.
The sendoff speech is a classic poem called Don't Go Gentle into That Good Night

It's mainly about the preciousness of time but also about the fragility and rareness of habitable planets. We don't have a 'they' helping us with a wormhole to another galaxy. Earth is all we have.
I always feel bad for Dr Brand at the end. She is trying to following her father's plan after finding out he lied to her. She would also assume that human life on earth would have ended. Maybe Nolan could have had a shot at the end of Cooper arriving at Edmund's planet and Brand seeing him arrive. Although given Murph had solved the problem of gravity it's not clear to me whether Dr Brand would have even wanted to stay on Edmunds planet if she knew that she could back to earth or space stations that surround earth.
Regardless, it's an amazing movie and the music is exceptional. Great reaction.

This is a good movie but not as great as most commenters say it is. It can't decide if it is about saving the human race or familial relationships. The empathy is uneven. Some deaths are swept under the rug quite quickly while other, more anticipated deaths are over emphasized. Mann is supposed to be the cream of the cream yet he is unstable with narcissistic tendencies and is cowardly too boot. This movie for me was all about saving the race and getting us to another planet one way or another. Personal relationships were the least important factor.
It is an interesting concept but the execution feels contrived. I give it a 6 out of 10.

The truest science fiction stories are not about aliens and space battles, though they may contain such content. They're about what it means to be human, and how nature, science, and technology challenge us and expand our perspective of the universe and ourselves. The way gravity can affect time as it does in this film is a scientific fact, but what's really interesting is how it might affect those who experience it. It's the humanity in the story, more than the science itself, that is truly compelling. Another film that will make you feel this way is Arrival by Denis Villeneuve.
"Science fiction is an existential metaphor that allows us to tell stories about the human condition." - Douglas Anders.
"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinded critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all" - Isaac Asimov

Nice reaction. I didn’t know they would release in theaters for the anniversary. You should watch it in the theater. On the big screen with the audio the experience is more amazing.

My best friend from all my life and brother in law, one of the people I love and respect the most, says this is the greatest movie ever made. I never understood why but it's a charaged conversation to have in my place XD. Don't get me wrong, it's a GOOD movie. Even a pretty good movie. But I don't know why, I feel nothing while watching it. It's not only my brother in law, everybody loves it.
I think it may be because I am a bit into physics and while my math is not great, the concepts here are very well known, at least for me. It was too predictable, maybe. I don't know. There's nothing wrong with the movie. I just can't feel it. Maybe there's something wrong with me...

I think you’re incorrect about Professor Brand giving up on earth. He absolutely did not.
He gave up on trying to solve a problem that was legitimately 100% impossible for him to solve.
He resolved himself to trying to save the human race in the only way he could.
However, when fate or “those beings” threw a curve ball that was Cooper showing up, with no reason at all he jumped on it and he swung for the fences. He didn’t need to send Cooper, but because he did and he took a chance the world got saved.
Again the problem he was trying to solve was 100% impossible for him to solve. But he was always fighting and looking for anything that could help like Cooper showing up on their doorstep brought to him by the very beings that gave the worm hole.
I think he’s one of the best characters in the whole movie because of that .

There is a video game being made based on time dilation and the spokesman is this actor. The studio making it are developers that made Mass Effect.

Loved your genuine and heartwarming reaction to this amazing movie and look forward to more great reactions on the channel. In my opinion it is one of the best movies ever and certainly Nolan's best work among many great films. I would like to say something about Professor Brand. Even though what he did was definitely horrible there was nothing else he could do (Unlike Mann who is a total coward and scumbag). He tried to solve the gravity equation in order to evacuate humanity from earth but there was no way he could actually do it because it required looking into a black whole (something impossible) so he focused on the only other thing: Starting a small space colony in order to spare mankind from certain extinction. He wanted to give the expedition the best chance of success with the best pilot possible that is why he lied to Coop.
